★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Tod and Maxine McClaskey Culinary Institute at Clark College has been on my list for quite some time. When I saw Navajo Fry Bread Tacos on the menu, I dropped everything to go get some! Lol!Though they were good, they were too fancy for me. I'm used to the traditional kind with beef, beans, lettuce, tomato, olives... the slaw was tasty - it all had good flavor, but the fry bread was tougher than expected. That may be because it was toward the end of the week when we went. That's probably why they were also out of the strawberry eclairs and just about all the bakery item stuff as well. Got to try a piece of raspberry cheesecake (meh, but I'm hard to impress since I am an avid baker and home cook) and Japanese iced coffee (now that was YUMMY). I had to remind myself that these students are just starting out and are learning. We all have to start somewhere. They're doing their best. Will not fault them for it needing improvement as they are learning! I will say they have their fries and hotdog down pat! My son devoured his and only let me try a couple fries. It was fun that they had freeze-dried skittles, too!All-in-all, I'd totally go back here again even if just for the hotdog and fries and Japanese iced coffee! Or their freezer grab and go meals looked good and affordable! It would depend what they had on the menu and what day it is that I could come for anything else though. They really have limited days and hours, but I'm glad I finally got to go. All the staff and chefs were kind, helpful, professional, and efficient.

I found an edifice built of dreams. I found young people humble and proud. I found service respectful and kind.And of course… I found great eats! this is not an easy place to find, to say it is a secret is almost an understatement. You have to follow them on Instagram to know what their menus will be on a given week, but they are open Tuesday through Friday for regular meals and then they have their student run specials, and that my friend can be an almost mystical experience.I was lucky enough to have lunch at the McClaskey Culinary Institute and to be served an extraordinary meal made by one of the institutes students, Eric Morton. The food was rich, many layered, and absolutely on point. The main course was sweet and spicy chili garlic spare ribs, and I felt like I was a robber for how little I paid for the meal. The appetizer, the Texas Twinkie, a jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese, pulled pork and wrapped with thick bacon. It was the very definition of decadence and enjoyment. For dessert, the lemon cheesecake was almost unbelievable. One of Eric‘s specialties.The service was kind, respectful, and elegant. The restaurant itself is somewhat nondescript, but honestly, who cares?This is one of those secret places that you put on your list. You do what it takes to know what the specials are. You go ahead and follow on Instagram. You make it into a special moment of your week where you can explore, learn about cultural foods and get an amazing deal, all at the same time.If you don’t know about this, and most people don’t, it is an adventure and an exploration chasing. When you are there, and you look around at the other patrons and everyone looks like they’re in on the big secret. There is a friendliness and a camaraderie.And look, they are students. And honestly, I suspect that there are days that are better than other days, students who are better than other students. But in the end, it is a true culinary adventure. And those don’t come around all that often.I cannot recommend this enough. It is worth tracking down what’s going on there. And the rest of the days, it is a relatively inexpensive restaurant that strives for good food and good service.

The instructors and students of the culinary institute run the entire operation and prepare all of the food!From baked goods to burgers, and high end dessert items, they are all done by the students!I really cannot commend them enough. This is a true gem!
