Valerio's City Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the diverse culinary landscape of the California Bay Area, finding a truly soulful, community-focused bakery is a treasure. **Valerio's City Bakery** in San Jose is widely regarded as exactly that—a cherished local establishment specializing in authentic **Filipino baked goods and comfort food**. This is a place that goes beyond simply selling pastries; it offers a genuine, familial experience that makes customers feel right at home.
Valerio's is known for its deep-rooted connection to the local Filipino community, with a loyal customer-base that frequently comes by to grab bags of their freshly baked breads and hot food. As one customer beautifully put it, "Valerio's is pure soul... the owners are genuine and feel like family." The offerings are a rich reflection of Filipino culinary heritage, drawing from the country's Portuguese and Spanish history while incorporating local flavors like coconut, pineapple, and bananas. The bakery's unique approach means there isn't a printed menu; instead, patrons "peek over the glass counter" to see what hot, freshly prepared noodles, beef, and other meals are available that day. This method creates an intimate, personal purchasing experience, focusing on the immediate availability of comfort food made with what customers feel is genuine love.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Valerio's is pure soul. I do not know how authentic it is to a true Filipino bakery and comfort food but all I can tell you is that the owners are genuine and feel like family. Both from the outwards facade and the interior, it is a run-down family joint. But the incessant local Filipino customer-base that comes by to get their bags of baked goods as well as hot food indicates that it is a locally loved establishment. There's no menu. You peek over the glass counter and see what they have. Point your fingers to tasty noodles, beef, whatever else that looks good and no matter what you order, you get it at a cheap price with total comfort food taste. You're not going to be hungry. And you're going to be sucking your fingers asking for more.Pretty much everything is good and can be felt that they're made with love. Make sure you get a stick or two of the Turons (fried banana sticks). The Turons are simply out of this world and that is an understatement. The bags of freshly baked bread was still warm at 11 am. Pan de Sal, Pan de Coco, etc. all are done in a Filipino way - inheriting from the Portuguese / Spanish history but also mixing the local ingredients like coconut, pineapple, and bananas. It's also quite different from the Hawaiian style of bread.Valerio's is a local jewel, dishing out love and warmth. It is worthy to drive all the way to San Jose just for this. And we'll be back.
October 27 · Wook Chungwe come here to buy their adobo and igado but recently they have stopped cooking these. you wonder why they dont serve these when it is almost always sold out. And when you call, their servers/employees lack the courtesy and enthusiasm of service… napaka-masungit ng mga ale.when you go there in person, there’s a couple who are real sweethearts but then if you win the draw, you get to be served by the masungits!!to the owners of this establishment… pagsabihan nyo nga yang mga masusungit nyo na servers!!

March 28 · Giorgio RamirezSuper disappointed in how I was treated here. My husband and I were craving turons/banana egg rolls. Upon walking in, the two women working there looked at us up and down (I’m assuming to see if we were Filipino, which we’re not). I waited behind someone else that just bought something. When she finished, I walked up and asked if there were any turon/banana egg rolls left. The woman at the counter said that there’s no more, quietly, so I said “huh?” And she said “no more” and looked away. I asked her if there would be more tomorrow and she said “don’t know.” Again, she said it quietly and looked away. So I wanted to make sure I heard her right, because we wanted to come back tomorrow to buy some and I was hoping to find out the time they would have them. So I said “you don’t know?” And she said “don’t know.” There was no one else waiting in line, so they weren’t even busy at the time or anything…Needless to say, we will never return and will not ever recommend this place ever again. We bought 50 turons for a party just last week, too. So bummed that we supported them with this type of service we received today…And for anyone else that is looking for turon, we were so excited to find that Gabrielle’s Food Market across the street also sells them and they’re just as good, with much better service.
December 29 · WinniePoor customer service! Very very poor! Unfriendly staff... i was expecting a jolly and entertaining face since that's how Filipinos are, but the lady in the front couldn't paint her frowny face! I asked for fresh pandesal and she arrogantly answered me that they don't have. She's rude! She should work at the back without customer interaction! I hope when I go back there, if i will comeback after today... i hope she's not there anymore! I only heard from others about this lady but today I met her. My mistake i didn't get her name. You are ruining the business!
