What is worth choosing
For any California local or visitor to Los Angeles’s Chinatown, the true value of Wonder Bakery lies in experiencing its perfect balance of savory comfort food and Asian-style sweet delicacies. While their selection is vast, the best experience involves choosing the items that best showcase their traditional Chinese bakery expertise.
It is highly recommended to create a custom trio of items for the quintessential Wonder Bakery experience. First, you must select the iconic savory favorite: the BBQ Pork Bun. This fluffy, soft bun, filled with sweet and smoky BBQ pork, provides a hearty and satisfying counterpoint to the sweets. Second, indulge in the cornerstone of any Chinese bakery visit: the Egg Tart (Dan Tat), with its flaky, buttery crust and creamy, rich custard center—an affordable and authentic treat that has been perfected over decades.
Finally, pair these baked goods with one of their famous celebratory desserts. Opt for a slice of the Strawberry Cake, known for its light texture and fresh whipped cream, or choose a traditional sweet bun like the Taro Bun or one of the unique Mini Lotus Seed Moon Cakes for a culturally rich, delicious finish. This combination allows you to fully appreciate the breadth of the menu, from the satisfying savory pies and buns to the fresh, creamy cakes and traditional cookies that have made Wonder Bakery a beloved staple in Los Angeles since 1973.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1When I was here in 2019, their egg tarts were on the bland side, but this last time a week ago, it was much better. Still a nice selection of baked goods, and despite being in a high traffic area, they don't get super packed. Those butterfly cookies are what I used to get at Chinatown no matter what bakery I was in, as long as I was in Chinatown as a kid, I just HAD to get these! Also, it's one of the rare places nowadays that actually serve 沙翁, but they put a lot of sugar compared to how it might be made "in the old country", which is fine, because I have a sweet tooth.
February 18 · 龔振勝Like its surroundings, this place isn't much to look at but the pastries and teas are actually dangerously good. This place is located near the Bruce Lee statue. The egg tarts have robust crusts and the baked BBQ pork buns are delish. I personally had the 3 berries and banana juice and also the peach green tea. Both were super satisfying!
June 18 · Jim L (kpjimmy)The quality is great! We tried their strawberry cake and blueberry cake, both were great. We took with us some vanilla cookies and apple pies. Loved it all.
August 20 · Sandra Caldero-SmithI highly DO NOT recommend this bakery. I had ordered an egg tart and a beverage. After placing my order, I noticed in their glass display where they have their pastries there were a couple flys roaming around. I told the girl that took my order that I seen flys in there and she responded trying to argue with me saying that I was lying and that she seen flys outside of the case instead of inside. And to top it off she was eating while arguing with me. What kind of Customer Service is that? Considering Wonder Bakery has been in business for years and that's the kind of service your workers give to customers?? The cashier was a young Hispanic girl with a nose piercing. Very ugly attitude and seemed like she didn't wanna work. It sucks because workers like this create a bad reputation for businesses. Never again will I come here and the pastries and drinks suck too. Pastries taste old af and the drinks taste watered down and artificial. There are plenty of other places you can go around the area for great sweets, don't waste your time here.
May 18 · Destiny HulingsThis was my first time getting a few items here. We got their taro bream, a red bean moon cake, an almond cookie and a green bean pie. All were go good. I wish the taro had more taro filling instead of just the center. It was so good, I devoured it. Their red moon cake has a rich Honey taste. Their almond cookies are made there. The green bean pie was definitely something out of my comfort zone, my goodness, it’s a great way to get in those vegetables. The flavor was green bean and honey, very unique. When we go to Chinatown next time, this will definitely be our new stop for pastry.
