Yeastie Boys Introduce
If you live in or around Los Angeles, chances are you’ve either chased down a bright pink food truck or heard the buzz about
Yeastie Boys Bagels
. More than just a bagel shop, this operation has developed a cult following across Southern California, blending a New York-style bagel foundation with creative, flavor-packed, and often irreverently named sandwich concepts that feel distinctly L.A. What started as a passion project for founder Evan Fox, hand-rolling bagels out of his apartment in 2014, has since evolved into a notable multi-location business, including a flagship location on Melrose Place and a fleet of food trucks.
Yeastie Boys is all about bringing a high-quality, New York-style bagel—plump, chewy, and slightly sweet from barley malt—to the West Coast, but serving it up with a modern, 'anything-goes' attitude. It’s a place where you can get a classic
Bagel & Schmear
or dive headfirst into a towering, fully-loaded breakfast or lunch sandwich that’s designed for satisfaction. This approach has positioned the brand as a key player in the burgeoning L.A. bagel scene, offering a quick, dependable, and flavorful option for those mid-day cravings.
Whether you’re a local on your daily coffee run or a visitor looking for a truly unique Los Angeles food experience, Yeastie Boys provides a memorable stop. They are committed to a multi-day process for their bagels, ensuring the dough is properly proofed, boiled, and baked for that perfect texture—a crucial difference you can taste.
One of the most appealing aspects of the Yeastie Boys concept is the combination of traditional bagel-making technique with a menu that doesn't take itself too seriously. The fun names—many referencing music and pop culture—add to the vibrant personality of the brand, making the ordering experience as engaging as the meal itself. It's a quick-visit spot designed for a hungry crowd, focusing on efficiency and big, bold flavors.
The menu is designed to cater to all types of appetites, from savory breakfast lovers to those seeking a lighter, vegan-friendly bite. They focus heavily on premium additions and house-made spreads, or 'schmears,' which truly elevate the classic sandwich. The focus remains on a product that people will want to incorporate into their daily routine—a modern, refined take on the classic New York bodega staple, served up with an unmistakable SoCal flair.
Location and Accessibility
While Yeastie Boys began as a popular mobile food truck operation that regularly changes locations, its presence on Melrose Place offers a dependable, central hub for local patrons. The Melrose Place location is situated in the heart of West Hollywood, an area renowned for its fashion, dining, and vibrant culture. This brick-and-mortar spot anchors the brand's presence in a highly trafficked and stylish part of Los Angeles, making it an easy destination for many residents and workers in the Central L.A. region.
For those planning a visit to the physical location, the specific address is:
Address: 8420 Melrose Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90069, USA
Accessibility is a key consideration for any high-traffic establishment in California. The Melrose Place location is noted for offering a
Wheelchair accessible entrance
, which helps ensure that all customers can comfortably access their favorite bagels and sandwiches. This spot operates not only as a traditional storefront but also serves as a pick-up point, blending the convenience of their mobile operation with the permanence of a dedicated shop.
For customers who prefer to order ahead, the business offers dedicated options for swift service. The location and business model are set up for a
Quick visit
, catering to the busy, on-the-go lifestyle common in California. Furthermore, the extensive food truck fleet continues to service other popular Los Angeles neighborhoods—including DTLA, Silver Lake, Venice, and Brentwood—expanding accessibility across the greater L.A. area and maintaining its original reputation as a mobile, community-driven bagel destination.
Services Offered
Yeastie Boys Bagels has structured its service model to provide maximum convenience, accommodating both immediate needs and advance planning. Their primary focus is on serving hot, fresh, and fully loaded breakfast items, but their menu supports options throughout the day. Customers can expect a few key ways to enjoy their offerings:
- Bagel & Sandwich Service: The core offering revolves around a variety of hand-rolled bagels paired with house-made spreads and innovative sandwich combinations. This includes everything from a simple schmear to fully stacked morning meals featuring eggs, bacon, house-smoked pastrami, and more.
- In-store pickup: Customers visiting the Melrose Place location can pick up their orders directly from the counter, ideal for a quick breakfast or lunch.
- Takeout: All menu items are available for takeout, perfect for those enjoying a quick visit or heading to work.
- Catering and Truck Operations: While the Melrose address is a permanent spot, the original business model thrives on its mobile food trucks, which continue to operate throughout Los Angeles, often available for catering or rotating pop-up schedules in various neighborhoods.
- Breakfast/Brunch: The primary dining option offered is Breakfast, centered around their expansive list of bagel sandwiches.
- Schmears and Bagels by the Pound: Customers can purchase half-pound or full-pound containers of their house-made cream cheeses (schmears) for enjoyment at home, along with single or half-dozen bagels.
- Beverages: A variety of drinks are available, including Cold Brew, coffee-based lattes like an Oat Milk Vanilla Latte (where available), Mexican Coke, and fresh-squeezed fruit drinks.
Features / Highlights
Yeastie Boys has cultivated a brand identity based on both the quality of its food and its unique, modern approach to a classic food type. Several features set this Los Angeles bagel shop apart and contribute to its strong local appeal:
- New York-Style Bagels: Their bagels are made using a multi-day process—hand-rolled, proofed overnight, boiled, and then baked—to achieve the coveted dense, chewy interior and slight crust that New York-style aficionados appreciate. They use malt sugar instead of regular sugar for a hint of traditional sweetness.
- Cult-Favorite Menu Items: The menu features creative, pop-culture-inspired names that have become fan favorites. Highlights include the savory and filling
Game Over
(scrambled egg, bacon, tomato, house-made cheddar jalapeno schmear on a cheddar bagel) and the classic smoked salmon sandwich, the
Lox Deluxe
(smoked salmon, house-made scallion schmear, tomato, red onion, capers).
- Unique and House-Made Ingredients: The shop prides itself on its house-made spreads, or 'schmears,' such as the
Cheddar Jalapeno Schmear
and
Schmutz Sauce
(a house-made garlic aioli), along with custom pit-smoked pastrami used in sandwiches like the
Diss Track
and
The Reubenstein
.
- Vegan-Friendly Options: The menu thoughtfully includes dedicated choices for plant-based eaters, such as
The Mishka
(vegan roasted bell pepper spread, tomato, red onion, sprouts on an everything bagel) and vegan cream cheese schmears (Plain or Scallion).
- Extensive Food Truck Fleet: In addition to the Melrose Place location, the business maintains an operational fleet of food trucks, which allows them to serve a wide range of L.A. neighborhoods and maintain their initial grassroots appeal and mobility.
- Convenient Payment Options: For a seamless, fast experience, the shop accepts a wide array of modern payment methods, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.

What is Worth Choosing
For local patrons in California seeking an elevated and flavorful bagel experience, Yeastie Boys is worth choosing for several compelling reasons, primarily centered on its innovative menu and quality commitment, though it's important to note that customer experiences can vary, as is common in high-volume, trendy establishments.
The strongest draw is the inventive and hearty menu. For a truly authentic, heavy-hitting L.A. breakfast sandwich, the
Cheddy Wap
(fried egg, bacon, melted sharp cheddar on a plain bagel) or the highly popular
Game Over
(scrambled egg, bacon, tomato, house-made cheddar jalapeno schmear on a cheddar bagel) are frequently mentioned favorites. These sandwiches are known for their substantial size and bold flavor combinations, providing a satisfying, full meal that goes far beyond a simple cream cheese spread.
For the purists or those craving a deli classic, the
Lox Deluxe
offers a high-quality take on the smoked salmon staple, while
The Reubenstein
showcases the custom pit-smoked pastrami, which is a major highlight for meat lovers. Customers who appreciate a generous layer of toppings and robust, savory fillings will find these options particularly appealing, as the focus is less on a plain bagel experience and more on the ultimate sandwich construction.
Furthermore, the variety of house-made
schmears
and the option to
B.Y.O. Bagel
(Build Your Own) allows for immense customization, ensuring there is a combination for nearly every taste preference. The inclusion of quality beverages, such as
Fresh Squeezed Strawberry Lemonade
and
Cold Brew
, perfectly complements the rich, savory sandwiches.
While some customers, particularly those raised on traditional New York bagels, occasionally debate the relative quality of the bagel itself compared to the filling—some finding the bagels less traditional or the service sometimes fast-paced—the consensus for many Los Angeles residents is that Yeastie Boys delivers an exceptional, memorable, and high-value bagel
sandwich
experience. It is a place that celebrates creativity in its food, establishing an unapologetically Los Angeles spin on a New York tradition. For a quick, indulgent, and flavor-forward breakfast or brunch, Yeastie Boys remains a leading choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had—and I’m from Queens. As a tough customer raised in Queens, New York, I don’t hand out praise easily—but Yeastie Boys blew me away. We visited the Melrose truck, and it was next-level.I had a cheddar bagel stacked with sausage, bacon, pastrami, and a crispy hash brown—heavy and heavenly. My son went with an everything bagel with egg, cheese, bacon, pastrami, and his too was made heavy with a hash brown, plus a fresh strawberry lemonade that was super refreshing.Flavor? Unmatched. The bagels had the right chew, the meats were bold and juicy, and every bite was pure satisfaction. They’ve earned the hype.Only thing I’d change? The customer service. The food was amazing, but the vibe at the truck could be warmer. I totally get that they’re busy and have a huge following—but it doesn’t hurt to be kind and friendly to your customers.Still—if you’re in L.A., this is a must. Just be ready to order fast and eat even faster.
July 28 · Raquel CarrI got the Diss Track, a hashbrown, and the strawberry lemonade, plus a pound of cream cheese for home. The Diss Track was SO DRY. The pastrami was dry as hell with NO flavor? How is that even possible? There was supposed to be sauce on the sandwich, and there was a tiny amount on top, but not enough to cover the dryness or blandness overall. The hashbrown was $4 for an unseasoned cold puck. The lemonade was okay, but also not worth the price considering how small it is.Maybe other locations of this brand/restaurant are better,l, I don't know. But this place sucks. And I'm out the money now on a meal I wouldnt feed to the dog.
December 21 · Rachel GoldwaterI came upon this Food Truck (located outside Alfred Coffee) on the tony Melrose Pl. after Googling “Breakfast Sandwich” and deciding that $15 for a breakfast Burrito at Alfred was not worth it. So instead I paid $12 for a Jalapeño breakfast sandwich and noted their credo - it’s all about the bread (I’m paraphrasing)After 10 years of living in NYC, I’m skeptical of all food, let alone an LA bagel shop - is nothing sacred anymore??That said, after one bite I was hooked. A delicious blend of hot and eggy, and yes - yeastie. My opinion (not that I care, but you should) is bolstered by the number of uber eats/seamless/postmates delivery pick ups that occurred while I was waiting for my bagel haven. I counted 4 in 7 minutes.Highly recommend, will return, and I’ll be sure to capture a photo next time. Bon appétit.
