Apollo Bagels Introduce
Welcome to Apollo Bagels, a beloved spot for authentic New York City bagels, located right in the heart of Greenwich Village. For many New Yorkers, a bagel is more than just a breakfast item—it's a staple, a cultural touchstone, and a source of local pride. Apollo Bagels lives up to this reputation, serving up fresh, delicious bagels that have earned a loyal following among residents and visitors alike. Whether you're a lifelong local in search of your next favorite bagel or a newcomer eager to experience a true NYC classic, this shop offers a taste of what makes the city's bagel scene so iconic.
Apollo Bagels stands out for its commitment to quality and the quintessential New York bagel experience. The shop has garnered a reputation for its bagels that are described by patrons as being "light and airy while still holding a strong crunch on their perfectly toasted exterior." This delicate balance is what many consider the hallmark of a great bagel, and it's a testament to the care and craftsmanship that goes into every batch. The shop has been recognized for capturing the "essence of the iconic New York bagel," a high compliment in a city with countless options. While some visitors discover the spot through travel blogs, many more are repeat customers who have made it part of their regular routine, drawn in by the consistent quality and exceptional flavor. It's a place where you can grab a quick, satisfying bite that truly feels like a part of the city's fabric.
The menu at Apollo Bagels offers a variety of classic and creative options to suit every palate. From a simple bagel with cream cheese to more elaborate creations, there's something for everyone. A standout favorite is their whitefish salad bagel, which has received high praise for its "great briny flavor when paired with the fresh cucumber." Another highly recommended item is their tomato and cream cheese bagel. Customers have noted that this seemingly simple sandwich is elevated by being "well-seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil," which helps to prevent it from being "a sad and bland sandwich." This attention to detail demonstrates the shop's commitment to delivering a superior product, even with straightforward ingredients.
Located at 73 Greenwich Ave, New York, NY 10014, Apollo Bagels is nestled in a vibrant and easily accessible neighborhood. The shop’s location in Greenwich Village makes it a convenient stop for locals living or working nearby, as well as for those exploring one of the city's most historic and charming areas. While the specific branch at this address does not have seating inside, which is a detail that some customers have noted, its location offers a fantastic alternative. Just across the street, there is a park with tables where you can enjoy your fresh bagel and coffee al fresco, taking in the lively atmosphere of the village. This makes it a perfect spot for a quick grab-and-go meal to be savored outdoors on a nice day. For those who need to get their bagel fix but prefer an indoor dining experience, it is helpful to know that there are other branches in the area that do offer seating. However, for many, the convenience of the Greenwich Ave location and the option of enjoying their meal in the nearby park is a great trade-off. The area is well-served by public transportation, making it an easy destination regardless of where you are coming from in the city.
A visit to Apollo Bagels is often described as a quintessential New York experience, complete with a bustling atmosphere and the aroma of fresh-baked goods. As with any popular spot, especially on a weekend morning, you may encounter a wait. For example, a customer noted a 25-minute wait for their order on a Saturday at 10:00 AM. This is often seen as a sign of a popular and well-loved establishment, and for many, the quality of the food is well worth the short wait. The staff works efficiently to get orders out, but it's a good idea to factor in a little extra time during peak hours. The shop’s dedication to freshness means that each bagel is prepared to order, ensuring you get the best possible product.
While the menu may seem straightforward, the quality of the ingredients and the careful preparation are what set Apollo Bagels apart. Their cream cheese, for example, is a highlight. While a standard cream cheese option is always available and delicious, a customer mentioned that the scallion cream cheese is "worth the extra $1 when I’m in the mood to splurge." This type of feedback highlights the small details that make a big difference in the customer experience. The shop is also known for its fair and transparent pricing, though one customer did question a price difference between a bagel with cheese and a bagel with cheese and tomato. However, such queries are a testament to the fact that customers are paying close attention to what they are getting, and in general, the value is considered excellent.
Apollo Bagels is more than just a place to get a bagel; it's a part of the local community. It's a spot where you can start your day with a classic New York breakfast that's been perfected over time. The shop's reputation is built on the word of mouth of satisfied customers, who often declare them to have their "favorite bagels in the city." This kind of organic praise is invaluable and speaks volumes about the quality and taste of their products. It's a place where you can feel connected to the city's food culture and enjoy a simple, yet profoundly satisfying, meal. For anyone in the New York region looking for a top-tier bagel experience, Apollo Bagels should be high on your list. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We came based on a recommendation from a travel blogger. This branch doesn’t have any seating, which I find very strange — there’s nowhere to sit. There’s another branch not far from here that does have seating, but it was more convenient for us to come to this one.The bagel was very tasty, but I don’t understand why there’s a $2 difference between a bagel with cheese and a bagel with cheese and tomato... a few slices of tomato don’t really justify an extra $2.It was tasty, but nothing too special in my opinion.
July 18 · Miryam AshurovThese are my favorite bagels in the city. Light and airy while still holding a strong crunch on their perfectly toasted exterior, these bagels capture the essence of the iconic New York bagel.I tried their tomato bagel and their whitefish salad bagel. The whitefish salad held great briny flavor when paired with the fresh cucumber.I highly recommend their tomato and cream cheese bagel. Not only is it delicious, it is also beautiful. The tomato pairs well with the cream cheese and is well-seasoned with salt, pepper, and olive oil, helping to avoid the common pitfall of a sad and bland sandwich tomato. I typically stick with regular cream cheese, but their scallion cream cheese is worth the extra $1 when I’m in the mood to splurge.I got there on a Saturday at 10:00AM and waited about 25 minutes for my order. There is not really any seating inside, but there is a park across the street with tables to enjoy your food.
June 26 · Jeana JooA must-go bagel spot in New York City, absolutely divine. I had the bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion, and dill— it was amazing. Very delicious, but was it worth the price? No, but was it worth the experience? ABSOLUTELY. I recommend the bagel with cream cheese and tomato; it was absolutely delicious and worth it. The customer service was great, and the area was very clean. The wait time wasn’t too bad. Price is kinda decent. I Recommend this place
April 29 · Morgan TochiTried a few bagel joints while visiting cause I love NY bagels. Selection was limited but they do it right here. So far my favorite as the outside was crispy and inside chewy. There is no seating/ no restroom and at times the line is long so be prepared. On a positive note, they have line monitors and an orderly process so it goes quicker than you think. A must try while visiting NY.
May 21 · BEN LEEApollo Bagels is a game-changer. These aren’t your average New York bagels—they’re next-level: perfectly chewy, deeply flavorful, and baked fresh daily with serious care. The sourdough base gives them a unique tang and texture that stands out in a city full of bagel legends. Toppings are generous, spreads are top-tier (don’t skip the scallion cream cheese), and the vibe is effortlessly cool. Whether you're a lifelong New Yorker or just visiting, Apollo is a must.
