Apollo Bakery Introduce
Welcome to Flushing, a vibrant and bustling neighborhood in Queens, New York, renowned for its incredible culinary scene. Among the countless dining establishments, you'll find a true local favorite that has been winning hearts and stomachs for years: Apollo Bakery. This unassuming, small-scale bakery stands out for its commitment to quality and authenticity, offering a delightful array of Taiwanese and Chinese-style pastries that are a true taste of home for many in the community. While it may not have the flashy decor or extensive seating of larger chain bakeries, its reputation is built on the simple, honest pleasure of expertly baked goods. From the moment you step inside, the wonderful aroma of fresh bread and sweet treats fills the air, promising a delicious experience.
Apollo Bakery has garnered a loyal following who appreciate its traditional approach to baking. It’s a place where you can find familiar comfort foods and discover new favorites, all made with care. Customers often describe it as a "hidden gem" or a "tiny bakery," which only adds to its charm. It's the kind of place where locals frequent for their daily bread, a special occasion cake, or just a quick, satisfying treat. The focus here is on the product itself—freshness, flavor, and a perfect texture that keeps people coming back again and again. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful, adding a personal touch to every visit, whether you're a regular or a first-time customer exploring the neighborhood.
The bakery's appeal lies in its dedication to specific, high-quality items rather than a sprawling menu. This specialization allows them to perfect their craft, ensuring that each bun, cake, and pastry meets a high standard. It’s a testament to the idea that sometimes, less is more. By focusing on a curated selection of favorites, Apollo Bakery creates a sense of reliability and trust with its customers. You know that whatever you choose will be a delicious and satisfying experience. For those in New York seeking genuine, authentic baked goods that evoke a sense of tradition and comfort, Apollo Bakery is a destination worth exploring. Its humble facade hides a world of flavor that continues to delight the Queens community and beyond.
Located at 135-36 39th Ave in the heart of Flushing, Apollo Bakery is situated in a highly accessible and convenient part of Queens. The neighborhood is a major transportation hub, making it easy for both locals and visitors to reach the bakery. It is just a short walk from the Flushing–Main Street subway station, which serves the 7 train, connecting Queens directly to Manhattan. Multiple bus routes also stop nearby, providing additional options for public transit users. For those driving, the bakery is in a central area, though as with many parts of Flushing, parking can sometimes be a challenge. The proximity to Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, one of the busiest intersections in New York City, means it is easy to find on foot while exploring the vibrant commercial district. The location makes it a perfect stop to grab a quick pastry and milk tea before heading to work, or to pick up some treats for the family on the way home. Its integration into the neighborhood’s fabric means it’s more than just a shop; it’s a part of the daily routine for many.
As a neighborhood establishment, Apollo Bakery thrives on foot traffic and word-of-mouth recommendations, a clear indicator of its strong reputation. The shop itself is described as small and cozy, designed primarily for to-go orders. There is no extensive seating, but this is a common feature among many beloved, traditional bakeries in the area that focus on takeaway service. The efficiency of the space allows for a quick and pleasant shopping experience. The area around the bakery is lively and full of other eateries, shops, and cultural centers, making a trip to Apollo Bakery a great addition to a larger outing in Flushing. Whether you are coming from a nearby office, a family outing, or a day of sightseeing, the bakery's location makes it a convenient and worthwhile stop.
Apollo Bakery offers a diverse range of baked goods, with a particular focus on traditional Asian pastries. Their menu is thoughtfully curated, and while the selection can be limited in quantity—meaning popular items may sell out by the afternoon—the quality is consistently high. Many customers praise the bakery's ability to create treats that strike the perfect balance of sweetness and flavor, avoiding the overly sugary taste often found in Western-style desserts. This attention to detail and traditional preparation methods is a major draw.
Cakes and Sliced Cakes: Apollo Bakery is celebrated for its incredibly soft and moist sponge cakes. Customers have remarked on their perfect texture and balanced sweetness, making them a fantastic choice for both everyday treats and special occasions. The Napoleon is another popular cake, featuring flaky layers, custard cream, and a hint of fruit. They also offer a variety of cake rolls with different fillings.
Buns and Breads: The bakery is a haven for lovers of soft, fluffy buns. The scallion bun, a classic Chinese bakery staple, is a fan favorite for its savory topping. The berry bun, with its soft bread, sugar frosting, and blueberry filling, is another top seller. They also offer a wide variety of other buns, including pork floss buns and different types of pineapple buns, some with custard or red bean filling. For those who enjoy a heartier option, they also bake a variety of toasts and multigrain breads.
Puffs and Pastries: The bakery’s puff pastries and other small items are equally popular. The pineapple egg yolk puff and the custard-filled puff pastries are particularly sought after. These are often described as having a rich, creamy, and satisfying filling that is a step above what you might find elsewhere. For those with a more savory palate, the curry beef pastries and other savory buns are a must-try.
Drinks: While the bakery is primarily known for its baked goods, it also offers a selection of beverages like milk tea and coffee tea. Customer reviews are mixed on these, so it might be best to stick with the delicious pastries for your first visit.
Apollo Bakery stands out in the crowded Flushing market for several key features and highlights that have earned it a special place in the community.
Authentic Taiwanese and Chinese-Style Pastries: The bakery is particularly well-known for its authentic Taiwanese-style pastries, which can be hard to find in other parts of New York City. This specialization offers a unique and genuine taste of these traditional baked goods.
High-Quality and Freshness: Reviewers consistently praise the freshness and quality of the products. The items are often still warm from the oven, and the commitment to using quality ingredients is evident in every bite. The "soft and moist" sponge cake and the flaky, rich Napoleons are prime examples of their dedication to excellence.
Excellent Value: Despite the high quality, many of the items at Apollo Bakery are very affordable. A scallion bun, for example, is priced around $2.50, and a berry bun around $3. This makes it an accessible and budget-friendly option for daily treats or satisfying cravings.
Cash-Only Policy: A unique feature of Apollo Bakery is its cash-only policy. This is an important detail for customers to note before visiting, as digital payments are not accepted. While this may be a slight inconvenience for some, many regulars see it as part of the bakery's old-school, traditional charm.

October 24 · FoodstahamGot what we thought was an ordinary sponge cake for my toddler and I have never seen her gobble down food so fast. It was so soft and moist and perfect amount of sweetness. The only unfortunate thing was they had two left and we couldn’t buy more for the ride home 😢
July 09 · LNTChankidsApollo Bakery is one of our favorite bakeries in Flushing and we visit them once a week or every 2 weeks. They are well-known for their Taiwanese style pastries, which is hard to find in NYC currently. The options are in a great variety but with limited quantity, so some popular kinds would be sold out in the afternoon. Our favorites are their Custard collection like Pineapple Buns with Custard and Puff Pastry with Custard. The custard filling was creamy, rich and super satisfying. There are only 2 complaints we have for improvement: Cash Only and the decor which is humble, narrow-spaced and it's only for to-go.
December 12 · Hsin Yi WeiFood is just normal, the lady kept recommending all the expensive stuff like the egg yolk puff which is over three dollar for one tiny piece. She kept saying that one is just not enough and persuade us to get at least three to “have a taste”. Totally a scam, recommending all overpriced items. Keep an eye and avoid those traps if you go
June 07 · Yu JxOrdered a cake from this place twice, and twice they got my order wrong. We even called to confirm, but they claimed they were busy and brushed us off. They used to make good cakes, but I won’t be ordering cakes from them anymore if this is how they want to do business.
