Bakers & Co. Introduce
If you are a Maryland resident who appreciates the timeless tradition of a truly great, handmade loaf of bread or a perfectly flaky pastry, you need to know about Bakers & Co. Tucked away on a bustling corner in the heart of Eastport—Annapolis’ quirky and charming maritime neighbor across Spa Creek—this small, family-owned bakery and café has become a beloved destination for those who prioritize quality and flavor.
Bakers & Co. is not merely a place to grab a quick bite; it is a European-style culinary retreat where the craft of baking is taken seriously. Owners Chris and Lucy Simmons, who began their journey at the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market, have built their reputation on a simple, yet profound philosophy: using the finest ingredients and baking everything fresh, daily. This means that every baguette, every scone, and every boule of bread is made from scratch with no preservatives, additives, sugars, or fats, guaranteeing the absolute freshest product for their Maryland customers.
Locals flock to this corner shop for an impressive lineup of both sweet and savory items. It’s an ideal spot for a quick breakfast and a cup of top-quality, locally roasted coffee before starting your day, or a delightful weekend indulgence. The atmosphere is frequently described as adorable and cozy, offering a charming backdrop for enjoying their baked goods. However, the high quality of their offerings means they are a busy bakery, and popular items often sell out quickly. Arriving earlier in the morning is a common recommendation among devoted patrons to ensure you don't miss out on your favorites.
Bakers & Co. is a testament to the thriving local business community in Anne Arundel County, earning high praise from esteemed culinary publications like Zagat for its "outstanding" baked goods. While the demand is high and a line may occasionally form, the efficient staff work hard to keep the service quick and friendly, ensuring Marylanders can grab their dose of daily baked goodness without too much fuss.

Features / Highlights
What sets Bakers & Co. apart as a must-visit destination for Maryland food lovers is its unwavering focus on artisanal craftsmanship and a few standout items:
- The Famous Market Bun: Highly acclaimed and mentioned by Zagat, this orange-cinnamon market bun is a fried pastry rolled in cinnamon sugar, celebrated for its perfectly crisp exterior and soft, chewy interior. It’s an Eastport obsession that cannot be missed.
- Artisan Bread Program: The foundation of the bakery is its authentic bread-making process. The daily-baked boules and baguettes are made with only four core ingredients—flour, water, salt, and natural levain—and baked on a stone hearth, guaranteeing a superior crust and crumb.
- Quiche That is "Second to None": Customer reviews frequently highlight the quiche as exceptional. While the exact recipe is a trade secret, the quality comes from a savory egg custard, rich fillings like artisan ham and Swiss Gruyere, and a perfectly flaky pastry crust.
- The Almond Croissant: A popular choice, this pastry is filled with a flavorful almond frangipane. The combination of buttery, flaky croissant and rich filling is truly cause for celebration.
- Family-Owned and Operated: The bakery retains a small, comforting, and personalized café feel, reflecting the passion of its owners who have grown their business from a simple farmers market stall.
- Selling Out Daily: The bakery's commitment to only selling bread on the day it is made is a guarantee of freshness, but also an indicator of high demand. This 'when it's gone, it's gone' policy encourages early morning visits.
What is Worth Choosing
For a first-time visitor to Bakers & Co. in Annapolis, the choice can be difficult given the array of high-quality goods, but three items consistently rise to the top as essential Maryland bakery experiences.
First, you must secure a Market Bun. This item, noted in numerous local guides, is a simple, yet stunning fried pastry rolled in orange-cinnamon sugar. It is the perfect balance of sweetness and spice, with a wonderfully satisfying texture that defines comfort food.
Second, the Quiche is mandatory. The consensus among local patrons is that the quiche is "second to none." Whether you opt for the 'Whole Ham Quiche' with artisan ham and Swiss gruyere, or the 'Whole Baker's Quiche' with green chard, you can expect a rich, savory egg custard set in a delicious, flaky pastry shell—it is a sophisticated and filling breakfast or brunch option.
Finally, be sure to take home one of the Artisan Bread loaves. The Urban Rustico or the Baguette, both made with natural levain and baked on a stone hearth, are true showcases of the baker's craft. With minimal ingredients, the quality of the bread speaks for itself, offering a timeless taste perfect for toasting, making sandwiches, or simply enjoying with a high-quality Maryland butter.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Top notch bakery! Very cute little corner store, and the coffee is excellent! The bakery items are simply the best, and the quiche is second to none! You can definitely tell that everything here is high quality. No surprise it's a busy bakery.
September 13 · Thomas UmgelterThe atmosphere here is adorable, but unfortunately the food and coffee didn’t live up to it. The coffee was watery and sour, and the pastry I tried (a raspberry jam bar) was very underwhelming — mostly bar with very little jam. There was also no menu posted and no clear line, which led to people cutting in front of each other. The space itself is cute and best suited for individuals or pairs, but seating is very limited (especially outside), so larger groups would struggle. Overall, I really wanted to love this place, but the drinks and food were not for me.
August 30 · Lauren HicksExcellent coffee. They use ceremony coffee beans. Have had latte and iced lattes, both are great. They have a small selection of baked goods. The interior is small but they have an outdoor seating area too, in the shade. Highly recommend!
July 12 · Christine BacciLove this place, a gem. We always enjoy taking a trip here on a Saturday or Sunday morning. The baked goods are always excellent and they make awesome lattes as well. Certainly have to remember they’re only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday tho.
July 12 · Michael BacciThis place is INCREDIBLE! All the bakery items are delicious! It’s always consistent! It should be studied how delicious the pastries are!!! They have the best almond croissants in Annapolis!! The atmosphere is like Nana’s kitchen. It’s intimate and welcoming!
