Basquia Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Basquia Bakery stands as a unique and innovative culinary destination within the vibrant Jagalchi food complex at Serramonte Center in Daly City, California. For Bay Area residents seeking high-quality, flavorful, and health-conscious baked goods, Basquia offers a compelling alternative to traditional bakeries. This is a specialty Korean bakery that has mastered the challenging art of baking with rice flour, utilizing proprietary technology like Hydrated Air Milling (HAM) to create exceptional "rice bread." This advanced technique allows Basquia to replicate the soft texture and rich flavor of traditional wheat bread while maintaining a naturally gluten-free profile.
The bakery is not just a place to grab a quick treat; it’s an immersive experience that aligns with the sophisticated Korean culinary offerings of the wider Jagalchi marketplace. Basquia has established a reputation for excellence by focusing on fresh bread baked daily from low-temperature fermented dough. It provides an impressive array of options, including cakes, handmade desserts, and specialty items that draw customers from across the Peninsula and beyond. Whether you adhere to a gluten-free diet or simply appreciate innovative and delicious pastries, Basquia Bakery is poised to become one of your favorite local spots. Its clean, well-appointed space, complete with ample seating, makes it an ideal place to pause and relax after a busy day of shopping in Daly City.
One patron perfectly described the atmosphere, noting it is a "really clean, nice space with a ton of seating area from tables to circular sofas." The bakery is dedicated to excellent customer service, with staff members frequently praised for their kindness and helpfulness, contributing to an overall positive and welcoming environment that encourages return visits.
Location and Accessibility
Basquia Bakery is centrally located within the large, modern Jagalchi Korean food complex, situated at the Serramonte Center in Daly City. This strategic location makes it easily accessible for shoppers and food enthusiasts throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
The specific address is 63 Serramonte Center, Daly City, CA 94015, USA. As part of a major retail hub, accessibility is generally excellent. The bakery itself is located inside the market, which can sometimes lead to minor confusion for first-time visitors who may see an outside door that is not used for entry. However, once inside the Jagalchi complex, the bakery is easy to find.
Key accessibility and convenience features include:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The main entrance to the Jagalchi complex, which houses the bakery, is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that all customers can easily enter and enjoy the space.
- Free Parking Lot: Abundant, complimentary parking is available throughout the Serramonte Center lot, making a quick visit or a longer shopping excursion stress-free for those driving.
- Shopping Center Hub: Being located within a large shopping center and food hall ensures easy access from major roadways serving the Peninsula and San Francisco, positioning it as a convenient regional destination.
A note for shoppers: while the bakery is inside the market, remember that marketplace policies may restrict bringing shopping carts into the dedicated bakery section. It is advisable to plan for a quick, dedicated bakery stop before or after your main grocery run.

Features / Highlights
Basquia Bakery is distinguished by its specialty focus and its commitment to health and innovative Korean baking techniques.
- Gluten-Free Rice Bread Specialization: The primary highlight is their use of rice flour, processed using advanced air-jet wet milling technology. This allows the bakery to create high-quality, 100% gluten-free bread that maintains the desired texture and taste of traditional baked goods, a significant benefit for health-conscious Bay Area consumers.
- The Signature Sulpang: This is their best-known item, a soft, light Korean steamed bread traditionally made with rice wine (though Basquia's version is often non-alcoholic). The cream sulpang, such as the popular Strawberry flavor, is a must-try for its pillowy texture and balanced sweetness, often filled with specialty custard cream.
- Korean-Inspired Flavor Profiles: The selection offers a delightful fusion of classic bakery items with unique Korean tastes, including Red Bean Bread, Cornbread, Fish-Shaped Buns, and Walnut Cookies, alongside their distinctive cakes and rolls.
- Fresh, Premium Ingredients: Basquia emphasizes using the "best ingredients" in all their cakes and homemade desserts, ensuring high nutritional value and a premium taste experience.
- Integrated Cafe Environment: Operating within Jagalchi, Basquia is more than a simple counter. It functions as a cozy café setting where visitors can enjoy their coffee and treats immediately, often utilizing the generous seating available in the common area.
- Dedicated Customer Service: Real customer feedback highlights the friendly and attentive service, particularly noting staff members who "lit up the whole place" with their kindness, ensuring a pleasant purchasing experience.

What is Worth Choosing
Basquia Bakery offers several standout items that define its unique appeal, especially for those in the Bay Area looking for something fresh, light, and distinct from typical American bakeries.
The consensus pick is the Strawberry Sulpang. This item is a perfect representation of the bakery's strength: a soft, delicate rice bread base filled with a lightly sweet, non-artificial strawberry cream and topped with a fresh berry. It offers a subtle sweetness and an airy texture that makes it instantly addictive, making it a favorite among reviewers. Similarly, the Cream Sulpang in its various flavors, such as the popular Dubai (often chocolate sulpang with pistachio custard), is a signature item that showcases the bakery's innovative take on Korean steamed bread.
For cake lovers, the Ganschu Chocolate Cake slice is highly recommended. Described as "light and not too sweet," it is the ideal choice for a delicious yet delicate dessert that won't weigh you down. The Mango Slice is also a reliable choice, known for its light texture and fresh, tropical flavor, perfect for those who always gravitate towards fruit-based desserts. These cakes reflect the popular Asian preference for less heavily sweetened desserts.
If you are specifically interested in their innovative rice bread, it is worth trying a basic variety alongside a flavored one. While some find the plain sulpang to be simple, it serves as a foundation for understanding the unique, light texture achieved with the rice flour technology. Other everyday baked goods like the Red Bean Bread, Butter Cream Buns, and Castella (a type of sponge cake) are traditional Korean staples that provide a healthy, premium option for breakfast or a quick snack.
Basquia Bakery in Daly City is not just another bakery; it's a destination for high-quality, gluten-free rice bread and exquisite Korean-style desserts. Its dedication to fresh ingredients, combined with its welcoming atmosphere and prime location within the Jagalchi food hall, solidifies its status as a must-visit culinary gem in the Bay Area.

August 05 · JackMy first time here, the entrance was a little annoying. They have a door on the outside, but you can't go in that way. It doesn't say you can't go in that way either. From inside the market you can go in but you can't bring in the cart which is annoying if you just finished shopping. I didn't want to bring the stuff in the car and go back in.After kind of pushing my way through, which everyone else was doing, why I'm not sure. It was rude, like we're all going in for the same thing but whatever. There wasn't a huge selection, but it was enough to keep everyone happy. They had grab and go pastries and cake slices that you lined up for, and they also had coffees and teas. This is a list of the items I tried:1. Bake plain sulpang - My cousin told me that this was so good and tasted like a baked puto. When I tried it, it was ok. Nothing special. It was like the top of a sourdough bread and nothing great on the inside.2. Strawberry sulpang - This had strawberry cream on the inside and a strawberry on top. This was my favorite. It was lightly sweet and didn't taste like artificial strawberries.3. Ganschu chocolate cake - light and not too sweet. I was torn between this and mango.4. Mango slice - Mango is always my go-to, and this wasn't bad. It was light5. Carrot cake - This I do not recommend. The cake part was so dry it was inedible. It was a pretty good experience. I can't wait to come back and try more items. I wanted to try the chocolate covered madelines. I saw they were the only one's that were untouched. For $4 each, I can see why.
April 23 · Lynn EglanI stopped by the bakery and tried the banana pudding and the Earl Grey pound cake, both were fresh, flavorful, and so well made. The banana pudding was creamy and not overly sweet, and the pound cake had a wonderful fragrance and light texture. Definitely worth trying if you visit Jagalchi!
August 23 · Archie ClapanoWe got the mango cake which was definitely overbaked. The inside was quite dry despite the whipped cream being very good. A more moist cake would really do the trick! The ambiance and staff were excellent though. The team gave us a cake knife and some candles which were great!
April 26 · Rohit AyyagariElegant atmosphere with delightful staff! You’re greeted with amazing pastry and desserts and staff full of smiles!
