★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1An oasis of high quality pastries, breakfast, and coffee in the gourmand’s desert of Deale Churchton! The tranquility and small town friendliness caps the appeal for South County at the trade for places to get good food, coffee, and treats. Black Market Bakers elevates the game and it doing so significantly raises the mean average for the area, but not the median. As typical for regional operations, their pastries and baked goods come from their larger locations that have larger kitchens and space. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches are made to order and come out hot and delicious. This location is an outpost - and a much needed and appreciated one!Historically, this location draws upon the legacy of the legendary small town, family-owned store called Pat’s Country Bakery that consecrated the building which Black Market Bakers occupies today. Pat’s was known for having a line out the door and clogging up traffic on the two-lane road when she opened up to sell her fresh, handmade pies and closing up shop not long after doors opened when everything sold out. Black Market Bakers in many ways pays homage to Pat’s with great baked goods, friendly service, and that small town feel. For many, it’s a nostalgic, but modern reincarnation that brings back to this swatch of grass and gravel along Deale Churchton Road the long lines, congested parking, and a vibrancy of that friendly small town country store to run into your neighbors!
September 07 · G KuhnsmanWe went for the coffee, but left with pastries did not enjoy the coffee but fell in love with the pastries and then realize why it’s called black market bakers Churchton highly recommend the pastries. We live out of town and I woke up dreaming about the textures in the flavors of the pastries we received. Every time I’m in the area. I will be stopping here.
September 15 · Vee BoogieI was anxious to check this bakery out bc I've heard great things about the biz and its other locations. My visit was on a Sunday at 1:15pm and it was still very busy, which is a good thing. I bought 3 regular pastries (which my husband said were very good..9.0 score out of ten) and 1 gluten free (pumpkin whooping pie) for me. My GF treat was disappointing. Ugh. After 2 bites, I decided it wasn't worth the calories. I wish they would offer more & different GF at this location, and perhaps pastries using almond meal instead of the flour alternative they used (rice & corn, maybe?)...the pastry was gritty and not flavorful. BMB...keep up the good work, but think about us GF folks. Also...it would be nice if pastries had labels in the display case. They said it was too much trouble bc the assortment varies day by day...but seriously...having little laminated labels is not that hard. There are so many hard surfaces in the bakery, and noise reverberation was so high, I couldn't distinguish what the staff were saying.
September 15 · SNT AaronLong line out the door but we got in and out within 15 minutes. Nice staff. Welcoming and friendly. Food was good. We got a frosted cinnamon bun , strawberry Danish and coffee , all were good. Its not saying much but its the best in our area. Too much to try at once and will come back soon.
August 03 · James HandlonI was referred by a customer to have lunch at this Black Market Bakers. The food and service were unmatched. Definitely worth the trip for breakfast and lunch. I’m looking forward to coming back.
