Bread Alone Bakery - Union Square Introduce
For many New Yorkers, a visit to the Union Square Greenmarket is a cherished weekly ritual, and at the heart of this vibrant marketplace is a stand that embodies the very best of artisanal baking: Bread Alone Bakery. This is not a traditional bakery with a brick-and-mortar store in the city, but a long-standing and highly respected presence at the market, offering city residents direct access to some of the most delicious and sustainably made baked goods around. With a no-nonsense reputation built on using organic-certified ingredients and sustainable methods, Bread Alone has become a beloved and trusted resource for those who value quality, freshness, and a connection to where their food comes from. Their commitment to creating "simple yet great baked goods" is evident in every loaf of bread and every cookie they sell.
The philosophy behind Bread Alone is deeply rooted in environmental and social responsibility. The bakery, which has its roots in the Hudson Valley, is a certified B Corp and focuses on creating a positive impact on both its community and the planet. This commitment to sustainability is evident in their products, which are made with organic ingredients, and in their business practices. Their breads, for example, are predominantly sourdough, and many of them are whole grain, such as their popular Pumpernickel and 100% whole grain Rye Brod. Customers have the option to buy these breads loose, a thoughtful detail that caters to environmentally conscious shoppers who prefer to use their own containers and tote bags. This attention to detail and a genuine care for their customers' values is a key reason for their success.
Beyond the breads, Bread Alone also offers a tempting selection of other baked goods and pastries. The vegan chocolate spelt pound cake, made with organic spelt which is a whole grain, is a testament to their dedication to creating delicious and inclusive options. Their Chocolate Walnut Cookie has also received high praise for its "great mix of cookie textures" and perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. Even on a chilly day, the staff at the stand are described as "chipper," creating a positive and welcoming experience for everyone. For New Yorkers seeking a genuine, high-quality, and responsibly made baked good, making a stop at the Bread Alone stand is a rewarding and delicious choice.
Bread Alone Bakery's presence is at the Union Square Greenmarket, New York, NY 10003. This strategic placement ensures that they are highly visible and easily accessible to the thousands of people who visit the market. The Greenmarket itself is a major destination for fresh, local food and is a vital part of the city's food system.
Union Square is one of the most accessible locations in Manhattan, making it incredibly convenient for New Yorkers from all over the five boroughs. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 14/10/2023, Monday:- Bread Alone Bakery comes to this Union Square Greenmarket on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8am-4pm, and is located by 17th st and Broadway or 15th street and Union Square West. There is a selection of many sourdough organic breads, and baked goods and pastries. I like the whole grain sourdough breads such as the Pumpernickel base on whole grain dark rye, which you can buy loose, and the Rye Brod 100% whole grain Rye even though I prefer it without a bag, so I can take it with my own stainless steel container and linen tote bag. For the baked goods the vegan chocolate spelt pound cake is based on organic spelt which is a whole grain.
June 19 · Noah HenyonBread Alone is one of the many stands at Union Square Greenmarket and is well worth a visit. the small tent offers a variety of bakery items from different breads to muffins to pastries and more. strolled through the Greenmarket, recently, and picked up a Chocolate Walnut Cookie and let me tell this is one damn good cookie. a crumbly cookie with chunks of chocolate and walnut pieces…a great mix of cookie textures. the cookie is the right amount of sweetness and crunch. the bakery lives up to its no-nonsense reputation of sustainable methods and organic-certified ingredients to create simple yet great baked goods. even on a chilly February afternoon, the staff seemed pretty chipper. definitely check out their schedule on the Greenmarket schedule and stop by.
