Features / Highlights
Clasen's European Bakery is defined by its deep German heritage, its women-led continuation of tradition, and the incredible breadth of its authentic product line.
Generational European Heritage:
- A 60+ Year Tradition: Founded in 1959 by two brothers from Cologne, Germany, the bakery introduced authentic European baked goods to an underserved Wisconsin market. The baking process, using all-natural ingredients, has changed little since those early days, maintaining a commitment to quality that is evident in every bite.
- Women-Owned and Family-Run: The tradition is proudly carried on by the second generation, with daughter Michelle Clasen taking over the business after receiving her specialized pastry degree in Germany. Her son, part of the third generation, is also involved, ensuring the bakery’s legacy of scratch-made German quality endures for decades to come.
An Extensive European Menu:
- Signature Tortes and Cakes: Clasen’s is the local expert for celebration cakes, specializing in traditional European buttercream and whipped cream tortes. Highly popular options include the rich Tiramisu (often chosen as a wedding cake), Black Forest Torte, Sachertorte, and Chocolate Decadence (flourless) options.
- Artisan Breads and Rolls: The bakery produces over 40 varieties of German Hearth breads and rolls daily, including specialty ryes, Artisan Wheat, and the highly coveted Cinnamon Swirl Bread. The bakery often collaborates with local partners, such as Capital Brewery, using spent grains for unique breads, pretzels, and buns.
- Pastries and Sweets: Indulge in an array of European delicacies made with real Wisconsin butter, such as sticky buns, Pecan tarts, Bienenstich, Morning Buns, croissants (butter, almond, chocolate), and seasonal favorites like Pumpkin Loaves.
- Confections and Savory Items: Beyond the baked goods, the bakery creates a rich selection of handcrafted chocolates and truffles (like Tiramisu and Caramel Truffles), as well as popular savory options like various Quiches and Specialty Hams (e.g., Signature Ham Baked in Sourdough).
Community and Celebration Focus:
- Wedding Dessert Excellence: The wide variety of offerings allows for unique wedding dessert spreads, enabling couples to offer multiple cake and torte flavors instead of a single tiered cake, a service highly praised by customers.
- Holiday Tradition: During the holiday season, the bakery is famous for its intricate, often life-sized gingerbread house display, which serves as a beloved photo-op destination for local families.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We ordered every type of cake Clasen’s offers for dessert for our wedding reception for approximately 100 people. By the end of the night, there was absolutely no cake left! What a hit! Our personal favorite is the tiramisu, which we used as our wedding cake. Staff were helpful in thinking through appropriate sizes and assisting with packaging the cakes carefully into my vehicle. 10/10 would recommend!
July 24 · Amanda KochA very good bakery. Prices are reasonable, but higher than local supermarkets. The Cinnamon Swirl Bread is a favorite of mine!! They frequently have buy one get one bread specials. We use Bucky Book coupons to get great savings at Clasen's European Bakery. They have other great pastries like sticky buns, pumpkin loaves (seasonal) and Pecan tarts and much more. You can even take a seat, grab a reasonably priced cup of coffee and enjoy great baked goods!
September 30 · Tom C (TravellerTom)I believe they bake everything there and if you like really good breads and all kinds of bakery items, you will love this place. They have some very unique European offerings, including great chocolates and especially for the holidays think of them for this year‘s Christmas because they have wonderful baskets you can mail out they have great Amazing cookies and snacks Christmas stuff that kids just love they have these little wrapped chocolates. Now this is what I would call a five star bakery so you’re going to need to understand that the prices are going to be higher because of the quality of the ingredients and because it’s made on site most of it anyway it’s all really goodAnytime of the year, my daughter and I go there for the breads and of course a couple half pounds of cookies and it’s a nice atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and very helpful and sometimes there’s even someone there that’s just baked something fresh and and they have good samples there they do the other day we try to jalapeño pepper Croissant. I had never tried one of those. It was divine . And if you’re on a budget, the bread is still affordable for the quality that you’ll get and you can always find a little snack and like I said they have samples and those are always fun and they know a lot about their products so they can tell you anything you need. They also do make special things they like for birthdays and holidays and all that, but I don’t have the details of that right nowAll I know is it really good😉✅🇺🇸🍩🥐🍪☕️🎂 ENJOY!
June 05 · Lauren WichmanBest European bakery in the area! I had it for the first time for my birthday by getting the Black Forest cake, and the staff here do an excellent job of presenting European baked goods to the community. If you’re into European baked goods you should totally come here.
