Features / Highlights
Cocohodo has several distinguishing features that set it apart as a premier destination for Korean sweets in California. The core of its appeal rests on the quality and freshness of its signature product, combined with a broad, appealing menu of beverages and desserts. These highlights contribute to its reputation as a beloved local spot:
- Signature Walnut Pastry (Ho Do Gwa Ja): The indisputable main attraction. These traditional Korean pastries are baked in the shape of a walnut shell and filled with a lightly sweetened red bean mousse and a chunk of walnut. They are often served warm and are renowned for their delicate, sponge-cake texture and satisfying filling.
- Freshness is Key: The pastries are known to be baked fresh daily and often served warm to the customer. Many patrons appreciate being able to watch the production process, much like a gourmet donut shop, which guarantees an exceptionally fresh product.
- Wide Variety of Authentic Korean Desserts: Beyond the walnut pastry, the menu boasts extensive Korean-style desserts, most notably the Snow Ice (Bingsu), a finely shaved milk ice that comes in flavors like Mango, Green Tea, and Black Sesame, providing a refreshing counterpoint to the warm pastries.
- Specialized Beverage Menu: The coffee and tea selection is both extensive and unique, featuring traditional Korean health teas (like Jujube Tea and Five Tastes Tea) alongside classic espresso drinks (including the popular Coco Latte and Sea Salt Coffee), offering something for every taste.
- Ideal for Gifting: The pastries are individually wrapped and available in beautifully packaged gift boxes ranging from 11-piece Handy Boxes to 56-piece Medium Boxes, making them a perfect, unique gift for any occasion.

What is Worth Choosing
When planning your visit to Cocohodo in Buena Park, the overwhelming consensus among local patrons is that the experience must begin, and perhaps end, with the signature Korean walnut pastry. The Ho Do Gwa Ja is the establishment's staple for a reason: it’s a perfectly balanced, warm, and comforting snack that few other places can replicate with the same dedication to freshness. Its simple yet rich blend of moist sponge cake, sweet red bean filling, and the crunchy interior walnut piece is a unique culinary delight.
For a true taste of Korea, consider pairing the pastries with one of the traditional or healthy Korean teas, such as the Jujube Tea or the Grain Latte (Misugaru). These pairings offer an authentic experience, blending the mild sweetness of the pastry with the deep, complex flavors of traditional Korean beverages. If you are visiting during the warmer months, indulging in one of the Snow Ice (Bingsu) selections, like the Mango or Very Berry Bingsu, is highly recommended as a refreshing, milky, and decadent dessert alternative.
The option to purchase the pastries in decorative Gift Boxes is also a standout feature. These boxes are frequently chosen by customers as gifts for friends, family, or colleagues, offering a unique and individually wrapped sweet treat that holds up well. The value of the Combo Menus—such as Combo A with one coffee and three pastries, or Combo B with two coffees and six pastries—is excellent for couples or small groups looking to sample the core offerings without overspending.
In essence, Cocohodo is worth choosing because it brings an authentic, specialized Korean dessert to the heart of Orange County with an unwavering focus on quality, from the fresh-out-of-the-oven pastries to its diverse and traditional beverage menu. It’s a perfect spot to satisfy a craving, enjoy a cultural treat, or pick up a thoughtful, delicious gift.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cocohodo holds a special place as one of our family's favorite snack spots. Today, we swung by to pick up a Cocohodo box to gift to a friend. Opting for a small box with 36 pieces for the gift and a smaller bag of 10 pieces for ourselves, we patiently waited about 15 minutes for our warm, freshly cooked Cocohodo. The place was bustling with activity as we waited, and we also noticed they offer a variety of beverages for purchase.
April 14 · Xavier KThe walnut pastry is the their staple. Come here for that and nothing else, you wont be disappointed. Friendly staff and quick service, albeit it was a quiet night when I came. Plenty of parking around in the lot. Lots of other interesting Korean joints in the area as well; afterall, this area has the largest dwelling of koreans outside of Koreatown in downtown LA.
October 19 · john paul anderson lionelThis place used to be packed with people but not anymore! They used to put 1/2 shell of walnut on each cocohodo ball! But now it decreased to 1/4. No wonder people abandoning! Please don’t play with food! It’s the fastest way to fail the business! Increase the price but not decrease the quality! So disappointed! Used to be everyone’s favorite!
May 02 · Tomas OhyungahOne of the weirdest encounters with a human being ive ever had4/13/24 Saturday we walk in and orderI asked for a plastic spoon the girl at register straight ignores me and throws the plastic spoon on the counter. Clearly this child does not want to be here. When we asked if there's a key to the bathroom they said no, I see nobody come in or out for like 30 mins.I asked the same girl again and she gives me attitude and opens the door.Like what.
April 16 · Ryan SohnI never quite know what to say about a place that seems to do its thing well but which I nonetheless don't really like. Usually I just don't review it. However, my wife really likes this place and I have to say that if I liked walnut pastries with red bean filling, this is where I'd go. The young staff are quick to smile, and they serve the pastries fresh out of the oven, sometimes so hot you have to wait to eat them. I always have such a positive experience here that I usually try to forget my preference and have a bite anyway. For a moment that warm, sweet smell brings me in every time. Then, alas, I remember I'm simply not fond of red bean, and then I let my wife finish the rest. In addition to the little bags we buy, they also wrap the pastries up in really nice gift boxes, so there is that as well.
