COCOpastel Bakery Introduce
Hello, New Yorkers! When exploring local businesses in our vibrant borough, it's helpful to have a clear picture of what each establishment offers. Today, we're taking a look at COCOpastel Bakery, a local spot in the Bronx. For residents seeking a bakery in their neighborhood, understanding the services and customer experiences can be crucial in making an informed choice.
COCOpastel Bakery aims to serve the community with its baked goods. While the goal is always to provide a positive experience, recent customer feedback suggests areas for improvement, particularly concerning product quality and customer service. One customer reported a "Molded Cheesecake Purchase," where a cheesecake was found to be covered in mold upon inspection. They noted difficulties in reaching the bakery for a resolution and were only offered store credit, which they declined due to "similar complaints through the reviews." Another review detailed an unsatisfactory experience with a custom cake order for a child's birthday. This customer received a cake with a hair on it, describing the bakery's response as unhelpful, with staff allegedly suggesting the customer placed the hair themselves and refusing a full refund. The review also criticized the cake's design, stating the "SpongeBob looks like it was just placed there with no delicacy or anything" and calling the handwriting "horrible." These accounts highlight the importance for local users to be aware of past customer experiences when considering COCOpastel Bakery for their needs. This article provides factual information based on available public data to help local users learn more about this place.
COCOpastel Bakery is located at 440 E 138th St, Bronx, NY 10454, USA. This address places it within a busy and accessible area of the Bronx, making it a visible presence for local residents and those passing through the neighborhood. E 138th Street is a significant thoroughfare, which contributes to the bakery's ease of discovery.
For New Yorkers who rely on public transportation, the bakery's location in the Bronx offers several convenient options. It is typically within walking distance or a short bus ride from various MTA bus stops that serve this section of the borough. Furthermore, the area is generally well-connected to subway lines, such as the 6 train, which has stations in the vicinity of E 138th Street. These subway lines provide broader connectivity, making it relatively accessible for individuals traveling from other parts of the Bronx or Manhattan. If you are planning to drive, the address is straightforward to locate. As is common in many urban areas of New York City, finding street parking in the Bronx can sometimes require a degree of patience, particularly during peak hours. Clients are advised to factor in a little extra time for travel and parking if they choose to visit by car. The bakery's presence on a well-known street aims to make it a convenient local spot for baked goods in the community it serves.
Based on the provided information, COCOpastel Bakery appears to offer a range of baked goods, with a particular focus on cakes, including custom orders. The services offered, as inferred from customer reviews, include:
- Cheesecakes: The bakery sells cheesecakes, as indicated by a customer's purchase. This suggests they offer a classic dessert option for those seeking this specific type of cake.
- Custom Cakes: COCOpastel Bakery accepts orders for custom-made cakes, as demonstrated by the SpongeBob cake ordered for a birthday. This service is intended for clients who require personalized designs for special occasions.
- General Bakery Products (Implied): While specific items beyond cakes are not detailed, the nature of a "bakery" implies a broader selection of sweet treats that might be available for purchase, such as pastries, cookies, or other desserts, for walk-in customers.
- In-Store Purchase: Customers can purchase items directly from the bakery's physical location.
- Phone Orders: The presence of phone numbers suggests that customers can place orders or make inquiries via telephone.
It is important to note that customer reviews indicate potential issues with the quality and handling of custom orders and products. For instance, one customer reported receiving a molded cheesecake, and another received a custom cake with a hair on it and concerns about the design quality. Potential customers should consider these aspects when evaluating the services offered.
Based on the provided customer reviews, here are some features and highlights observed regarding COCOpastel Bakery:
- Readily Available Cakes (Potential): While custom orders are mentioned, the fact that a cheesecake was purchased and immediately placed in the refrigerator suggests that some items may be available for immediate pickup, similar to other bakeries that have pre-made items ready for sale.
- Acceptance of Custom Orders: COCOpastel Bakery does take custom cake orders, allowing customers to request specific themes or designs for their celebrations, such as the SpongeBob cake. This service caters to clients looking for personalized desserts.
- Customer Service Interactions (Mixed): One review mentioned staff trying to address an issue, though the customer felt dismissed and unsatisfied with the proposed resolution (store credit instead of a refund, refusal to acknowledge error). This indicates that staff are present to engage with customer concerns, though the effectiveness of these interactions has been criticized.
- Basic Cake Flavor and Texture (Potential): While there were significant issues, the core quality of the cake in terms of "sponge" or basic flavor is not directly critiqued in the second review beyond the visual and hygiene concerns. The first review's issue was mold rather than initial taste.
- Local Presence: As a bakery located in the Bronx, COCOpastel Bakery serves as a local option for residents seeking baked goods within their community.
It is crucial to acknowledge that the provided customer reviews highlight significant negative experiences, including issues with product quality (moldy cheesecake) and problematic customer service (rude staff, denial of responsibility, refusal of full refund for defective products, and poor custom cake execution). These aspects serve as important considerations for potential customers when evaluating the bakery's features and highlights.

Given the feedback from past customers regarding communication and resolution of issues, it is recommended that potential clients consider this information when deciding on their method of contact and managing expectations for responses. Its accessible location via public transportation, including MTA bus routes and nearby subway lines, can be a convenience for residents seeking a neighborhood bakery without extensive travel. The fact that it accepts custom cake orders also provides a service for those looking for personalized treats for special occasions within the Bronx.
However, it is crucial for local users to consider the detailed customer reviews provided. These accounts highlight serious concerns regarding product quality, specifically a molded cheesecake, and issues with custom order execution, such as a cake containing a hair and concerns about design quality. Furthermore, the reviews consistently point to significant challenges in customer service, including difficulties in reaching the bakery for resolution, refusal of full refunds for defective products, and unhelpful or dismissive attitudes from staff.
While the convenience of a local bakery is often a priority for New Yorkers, the experiences shared by past customers indicate that potential patrons should exercise caution and set clear expectations regarding both product quality and customer service interactions when considering COCOpastel Bakery. For these reasons, while the bakery is geographically accessible, potential customers are advised to carefully evaluate if the reported quality and service align with their requirements before making a purchase.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Molded Cheesecake PurchaseDate of Incident: March 28–30, 2025On March 28, 2025, I purchased a cheesecake from this bakery. Upon arriving home, I immediately placed the cheesecake in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness. On March 29, 2025, I removed the cheesecake from the refrigerator to serve at a birthday gathering. As I began cutting the cake, I noticed blue discoloration inside. Concerned, I flipped the cheesecake over and discovered more blue spots. Upon further inspection, I found that the bottom portion of the cheesecake was fully covered in mold, rendering it inedible.I immediately attempted to contact the bakery to report the issue, but my calls were not answered. The following day, on March 30, 2025, I was able to reach the bakery and explained the situation. I was informed that refunds were not issued to cards and that I could only receive store credit to make another purchase.I declined this offer, as I had become aware of similar complaints through the reviews regarding the bakery’s products. Given this ongoing issue, I no longer wish to purchase from this establishment. I requested a different resolution, but I was informed that there was nothing else they could do and that the person responsible for making the cheesecake was unavailable March 30 · María Estefanía Espinal Morel
- My sister had ordered a cake from here yesterday for my nephew and this is what she received .. they gave us a cake with a hair on it and claimed that they wear “hair nets” and tried to say in small words that she took a piece of her own hair and stuck it on the cake .. then they didn’t want to refund her the whole $50 that she paid . and told us to just take the piece of hair off .. & on top of that she NEVER asked for a SpongeBob cake for a 6 month old baby ..the SpongeBob looks like it was just placed there with no delicacy or anything . and the handwriting on the cake is just horrible.. they had a bad attitude when I addressed the situation with the cake .. the male that works there was just trying to dismiss me and the lady was trying to tell me that we took our own hair and placed it on the cake . - Overall we couldn't try it. we reserved a cake 2 days in advance as they told us too today was the pick up day. The only excuse they gave us was the Baker never got the order. Instead of offering us an apology they just said they couldn't do anything or offer a refund. What's the point of having us reserve a cake 2 days prior if they aren't going to comply by it. Waste of time and money since they didn't offer us a refund said they don't do refunds even though it was their issue. Would not recommend would not suggest and frankly needs more work in the way the fix issues. March 05 · Edward Valdez
