Fancy Bagels Introduce
For over 30 years, Fancy Bagels has been a staple in the Farmington, CT, community, serving up what many locals consider a quintessential bagel shop experience. A family-owned and operated business, it has built its legacy on a "secret recipe" for freshly made bagels and a menu that extends far beyond just breakfast. While it's one of two locations (the other is in Southington), the Farmington shop is the original, holding a special place in the hearts of many long-time customers. From early morning commuters grabbing a quick coffee and bagel to families stopping in for a weekend breakfast, Fancy Bagels aims to provide a variety of options to suit every taste.
However, recent customer feedback suggests that the experience can be inconsistent. One long-time customer, for example, expressed frustration with their recent visit, citing issues with phone orders, what they felt was poor customer service, and an unexpectedly high price for a bagel with cream cheese. The customer also noted that their bagel was not toasted as requested, and they had a feeling that their dissatisfaction with the service was a shared sentiment among other customers. Another review from a customer who visited with their mother for a small retirement party highlighted significant concerns regarding food handling and sanitation practices. They specifically mentioned staff wearing the same gloves for multiple tasks, including handling frozen meat and other ingredients, as well as not tying back their hair. The reviewer also questioned the absence of a public restroom, an observation that brings up questions about compliance with state regulations for food establishments. Despite these serious concerns about service and sanitation, the reviewer did acknowledge that the food itself "tastes great" and that the prices were "awesome for the food portions you get."
Fancy Bagels has a history of being a go-to spot for many, offering a full breakfast and lunch menu with a variety of bagels, wraps, and sandwiches. The owners, Salvatore Belcaro and Dominick Gualtieri, have been part of the business since 1988 and are committed to serving quality products. The Farmington location is known for its freshly made daily bagels and the use of premium deli products on their sandwiches. They offer a range of beverages, from self-service coffee to a cappuccino machine, aiming to provide a complete breakfast or lunch experience. While the business has a long-standing reputation, the recent feedback suggests that there may be some operational challenges that impact the customer experience.
Ultimately, Fancy Bagels remains a well-known name in the Farmington area, with a long history of serving the community. For those seeking a classic bagel and deli experience, it offers a variety of options that have pleased many customers over the years. However, potential customers should be aware of the recent customer feedback regarding service and sanitation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1First off, they don’t answer their phone so forget about placing a phone in order. No, they weren’t busy, it was 1pm when I attempted & there was no one in the store when I walked in. Customer service is non-existent, everyone at this location seems to hate their job. Also, a bagel with cream cheese is now $6.17 - per the menu, cream cheese is now $5 which is incredibly insulting considering I’m not sure where the $5 worth of cream cheese is but it is definitely not on my bagel. I’m glad the bagel was semi warm but it being toasted as I had ordered would have been nice. I’ve been a customer for a long time but this recent visit was my last straw and I have a feeling I am not the only one.
March 25 · BriMajor issues with this staff. The manager Rosie is here and allowing the girls to walk from the back to the front of the store with gloves on while preparing our sandwiches. She literally allows the girls to not tie their hair back so the hair is flowing over the bagels and salad mix on the counter. Also allowing them to eat on the floor right where the bagels are sitting in the case she was eating bacon. Vegetarians like myself do not want to see bacon next to my bagel or to say the least you are cooking other people's food that you just ate next to. They should be changing their gloves way more often and we watched the one making our food take the slab of frozen meat right from the cooler and place it on the grill then with the same gloves on go directly to the fridge under the counter and take out other ingredients for our hot sandwiches. All of this without changing gloves one time is horrendous. Also pulling up her sleeve. Other than all of this stuff about proper food handling and sanitary issues the health inspector would have a field day with the food is good. The prices are awesome for the food portions you get. Plus no bathroom .. thought CT law states where there is prepared food there has to be a public restroom for customers. But who knows. Great food tastes great just needs to have better service and understanding of public health.
September 19 · Jamie CNothing special I found in this shop. I had pumpernickel with jalapeno cream cheese and did not like it. Jalapeno cream cheese was sour and felt stale. Pumpernickel was not pumpernickel at all, felt like normal bagel. For that $6.25, total waste of money.
February 23 · Pu GWe have been long time customers of fancy bagel but recently it has been disappointing. I understand that prices have gone up all around but it is a rip off to charge customers more for a sandwich and make the portion smaller. It used to be so much better. Service is good at least.
February 26 · Maddie LandryMy rating is for their service. There needs to be a study on the customer service at this place. Awful attitudes from multiple employees . I keep giving it a chance to see if a different employee would change my mind or if being a regular would change anything but it hasn’t happened. Even a simple good morning, have a good day etc like simple etiquette / manners would have made a huge difference on my impression.
