★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We tried this place for the first time and were pretty underwhelmed. We tried the French apple pie, mixed berry pie and a brownie. The pies were okay, tasted a bit like store bought pie. The brownie was good! It has a nice flavor and texture. We would get the brownie again if we were there, but wouldn’t get the pies again. The French apple pie was very sweet (definitely need some variety in flavor) and the berry pie just was subpar overall. The woman who checked us out was very friendly and helpful, so our service experience was great!
January 05 · Jennifer LemkeReally awful cake. Tasted like it sat in the fridge for days. Bad garlic bread, tasteless. I bought other items from the other vendors in Eastern market that were fantastic. Pastas, cheese, fresh produce were all excellent. The Sweet Shoppe was such a disappointment
August 30 · Mike HEverything was good except for their cookies. I bought a pound of tollhouse chocolate chip cookies and they were undercooked. And I don’t mean just by a little, the entire inside of the cookie was raw dough. I spent $12 for cookies that I couldn’t eat.
July 27 · Heather BrightSome of the worst baked goods I ever purchased. I bought 8 cupcakes, some Mexican wedding cookies, and a slab of cake with icing and nuts on top which tasted rancid. Cupcakes were extra DRY, might have been couple of days old. The cookies were okay. The bill came to around $25. I probably would've done better by walking a few blocks to Trader Joe's for my afternoon treat.
March 28 · aiko horiFine Sweet Shoppe is the bakery inside historic Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. They sell cakes, cookies, ice cream, coffee, sandwiches and so many other items. It's easy to get overwhelmed, but here's what I recommend:1) Ice cream- it doesn't compare to nearby Jeni's, Captain Cookie or Moorenko's, but for the price and portion, it's perfect for kids. My toddler loves their strawberry ice cream.2) Cakes- their chocolate cake is pretty good!3) Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies- they are small, but a good snack. If you can avoid it, don't order their chocolate croissant. Truly, it's the worst I've had in the city.
