## A Taste of the Balkans in Gwinnett: Discovering Grand Prix Bakery in Lawrenceville, GA
### Introduction / Overview
For two decades,
Grand Prix Bakery in Lawrenceville has been a vital, if understated, source of authentic European baking traditions for the entire Atlanta metropolitan area. More than just a local shop, this longtime family-owned business specializes in providing high-quality, specialty breads that are essential to various European and Middle Eastern cuisines. The bakery is particularly famous in the Georgia region as one of the only local sources for a specific, beloved staple: the pillowy
Bosnian flatbread, lepinja.
Founded by Raso Isovic in Lawrenceville in 2002, Grand Prix has grown into a significant wholesale supplier, baking for restaurants and grocery stores across the metro area. While they keep busy fulfilling these bulk orders—sometimes producing over a thousand loaves on weekend days—they remain a local bakery where Gwinnett residents can directly purchase their fresh products. The ethos of the bakery is simple yet profound:
"People always need bread," and Grand Prix aims to provide traditional, fresh, and essential bread styles, making it an invaluable cultural and culinary asset in Georgia.
The specialty
lepinja is similar to pita but thicker and softer, characterized by its almost creamy texture and the ability to form a perfect "pocket" when baked. This is the bread traditionally used to hold cevapi (minced meat sausages) in Bosnian cuisine, often topped with spreads like ajvar. Grand Prix’s dedication to producing such authentic products, which also appeal to Turkish, Persian, and other local restaurants, highlights its unique role in supporting the diverse food scene of Georgia.

Grand Prix Bakery Reviews
farmers market
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Picked up an European bread a day ago from the farmers market, today as I ate it with my wife we noticed that it had some white and green dots everywhere, we should have worn our glasses before eating the bread. Tried to call the bakery twice but none answered. Hopefully we won’t get sick. I will post some pictures.
September 14 · E RJust had a bad experience at this bakery. Walked in and saw the baker/owner preparing mop water and handling a mop bucket and mop. I advised him I wanted to buy bread and he went to touch the unpackaged bread with his bare hands. I asked if I could handle the bread si ce he was just handling a dirty mop and bucket, or maybe wash his hands. He refused to allow either and rudely told me to let him touch the bread or leave. I left. Not sure why he would not wash his hands at my request before touching the bread. He went back to mopping the floor. Very rude little man, he actually pushed my hand away when I offered to touch the bread I wanted instead of letting him touch it with mop hands. Was very offended by his physical gesture, but refrained from laying him out cold.
September 23 · Anthony SprolesI have purchased this bread many times at local farmer’s markets in the area. It is some of the best bread I have ever tasted. I will be going there this week to get some! Thank you!
March 15 · Suzanna HortonI picked up a loaf of their European bread at the Buford Highway Farmer's Market and it is fabulous!
December 16 · Lady RocksThis bakery sells bread in European stores, but is nothing compared with bread in Europe, one of the worst bread I had, very disappointed.
