H&H Bagels Introduce
For Washington, D.C. locals and visitors craving a taste of authentic New York bagel tradition, H&H Bagels offers a classic, straightforward option conveniently located in the vibrant Penn Quarter/Chinatown area, directly adjacent to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. H&H Bagels brings its long-standing reputation for producing large, classic bagels to the District, focusing on the simple, time-honored methods that have made them a staple for decades.
The philosophy at H&H is centered around providing a traditional bagel experience. Their menu is extensive, offering a comprehensive selection of bagel types and a wide range of spreads, signature egg sandwiches, and full deli-style options. This is a bagel shop designed for volume and efficiency, catering to the fast-paced D.C. environment, whether you're heading to a conference, commuting to work, or looking for a quick, hearty breakfast to power your day.
Unlike some of the newer, more experimental bagel spots in the DMV, H&H Bagels champions the no-frills, reliable classic. Customers here seek out the familiar chew and size of a truly New York-style bagel, which is the foundational element of everything they serve. Their product range extends beyond basic spreads to include deluxe options like Nova Salmon with The Works and a variety of specialty cold and hot deli sandwiches, ensuring there is a fulfilling meal for every craving.
The location’s proximity to major D.C. hubs—the Convention Center, numerous office buildings, and entertainment venues—makes it a high-demand spot, especially during morning hours. While the focus is on a quick and efficient transaction, the sheer breadth of the menu, from a simple buttered bagel to a complex Spicy Sausage Egg & Cheese, solidifies H&H Bagels as a key player in the District's breakfast landscape. It’s the spot for those who want their bagel experience to be predictable, authentic to the New York model, and quickly accessible.

What is Worth Choosing
Given the expansive menu, new and returning customers at H&H Bagels should focus on the signature items that highlight the bakery’s New York roots and its extensive selection.
The Classic Deluxe: The quintessential choice for a full, authentic experience is the Nova Salmon With The Works ($16.25). Served on your choice of bagel, this includes a generous portion of Nova Salmon, cream cheese, tomato, onion, and capers—a reliable and essential order at any traditional bagel shop.
The Best Egg Sandwich: The Classic Bacon, Egg & Cheese ($8.80) or the unique Taylor Ham, Egg & Cheese ($8.80) are top contenders. Taylor Ham, also known as pork roll, is a New Jersey/New York staple and a nod to regional deli authenticity that can be hard to find in the DMV. The Spicy Sausage Egg & Cheese ($10.00) also offers a popular, flavorful kick for those who like heat.
For the Schmear Enthusiast: Start with an Everything or Onion bagel, and pair it with the Flavored Cream Cheese ($5.75), which allows you to sample their fresh, house-made spreads. If you are entertaining a group, picking up a Dozen Bagels ($21.70) with a container of Lox Spread is a reliable and impressive option.
The Savory Lunch Option: For a midday meal, the Whitefish Salad Sandwich ($14.15) on a bagel is a classic deli offering that showcases their cold salad/deli capabilities. Alternatively, the Southwest Turkey ($15.05) or BBQ Beef & Bacon ($12.55) from the specialty menu provide unique, hearty flavor profiles for a fulfilling lunch.
For a Sweet Treat: Don't overlook the bakery items. The Babka Slice ($4.75) or a full Babka Loaf ($15.05) are Jewish deli bakery classics that pair perfectly with their Hot Coffee and offer a comforting, chocolatey indulgence.
H&H Bagels in Washington, D.C., is the go-to destination for locals and travelers seeking a consistent, wide-ranging menu of authentic New York-style bagels, all served efficiently in a prime downtown location.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We stopped in here while we were town for an event at the convention center and it was very good! Even though it was a Sunday morning, we were immediately welcomed and our order taken. It was not a very long wait for the food to be ready. We ordered the spicy sausage egg and cheese, an onion bagel with plain cream cheese, and a plain bagel with scallion cream cheese. Everything was very good! Unfortunately, I did not get the scallion cream cheese on the plain bagel, but it was still good with the plain.
August 11 · Ayla PadgettThis was our first time at H&H. We were really excited to try it. We’ve been to one in NY, but this DC one is not it. The service was snail pace, even though they were moving quickly? Our order was backed up at the end of line for quite a few minutes and people behind us got their order first. Each bagel came individually and in its own bag, so we got one bagel 5 minutes before the other one. Now, to the bagels, we thought they’d be on the same lines as Call Your Mother or Pearls Bagels - they are not. The bagels taste very artificial. There is a weird aftertaste, and we each got a different bagel, but yet they both tasted the same - chemically. The bagel itself was also dry. In terms of the taste of the toppings and cream cheese, it was flavorless. No seasonings. No flavor. Our bagels with cheese also had little to no cheese on them. Tried to say something at the counter but there were about 10 to 20 people waiting to either order, pay, or for their food and the inside is cramped inside. Overall, highly do not recommend. Do yourself a favor and stick with the tried and true DMV bagel spots, Call Your Mother or Pearls. I ended up throwing the bagels in the trash.
August 30 · Jake ChampagneThe bagel itself is great. Definitely want use it for ordering a bakers dozen in the future. Unfortunately, the cream cheese is “wet” …have tried 2 times and both times the cream cheese gets everywhere and the bagel doesn’t hold together well. Would love to see thicker cream cheese, and I wouldn’t have complaints about the bagels! The bagel & lox is NYC pricing, so likely won’t pay for that one again. Got 2 regular bagels & a coffee today and that came to the same price as the bagel & lox I got last time (pictured)
June 22 · Adam BershadOne of the worst bagels I’ve had in my life. The service was exceptional, and I wish nothing but success for the attentive and kind people who work here. However, their hard work cannot make up for the fact that the bagel itself had a sponge-like texture with an odd moisture to it and was cloyingly sweet (plain bagel - not toasted). The ingredients inside the bagel sandwich, however, were fresh and prepared well. If this weren’t a bagel restaurant, I would give it another shot. Unfortunately, you cannot get anything without a bagel, and they are worse that those I’ve had at a complimentary continental breakfast at a 3-star hotel.
July 06 · Brie SandsSo excited to see H&H open in DC! We came early Friday morning and ordered right away. It took a little longer than usual to get our food but the employees were very apologetic.I got the spicy sausage egg and cheese on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. It also comes with spicy scallion cream cheese, pepper jack cheese and spicy southwest sauce. It was so good! The spicy scallion cream cheese may be some of the best spreads I’ve had. It had a really good kick to it, and worked well with the sausage and egg on the sandwich. It’s a messy sandwich but delicious! We also got the regular egg and cheese bagel was ok. We definitely liked the spicy sausage sandwich better. There’s some seating inside, so we were able to grab a table and finish our sandwiches inside.Overall this was a great spot and we’ll definitely be back!
