Laune Bread Introduce
Minnesota residents who value high-quality, sustainably sourced, and artisan baked goods have a true neighborhood gem in Laune Bread, located in the heart of the Longfellow community in Minneapolis. This is not just a bakery; it is a dedicated proponent of the local food system, placing exceptional focus on whole grains, natural leavening, and community connection.
Laune Bread has carved out a unique niche in the Twin Cities by specializing in European and West Coast American-inspired naturally leavened breads and pastries. A fundamental aspect of their commitment is the use of whole grain flour—their signature breads incorporate more than 65% whole grain flour, ensuring a loaf that is not only deeply flavorful and hearty but also highly digestible and nutritious. This whole-grain focus, combined with a commitment to vegan recipes for their breads, has won over a loyal customer base. As one satisfied patron noted, they had tried several items, including a fruit tart, apple scone, and whole wheat bread, finding everything "wonderful" and being pleasantly surprised to learn it was also a vegan bakery. This speaks volumes about the quality and flavor that stands up to, and often surpasses, traditional baking methods.
Adding to its distinction, Laune Bread proudly identifies as both an Asian-owned and a women-owned business, furthering its dedication to supporting diversity and community in the local Minneapolis area. They strive to be a welcoming and inclusive space, evidenced by their designation as a transgender safespace and an LGBTQ+ friendly establishment. Whether you are grabbing a quick coffee and pastry (a 'Quick visit' is encouraged) or sitting down for a moment, Laune Bread offers a taste of Minnesota's rich, local grain movement.

For Minnesota locals, choosing Laune Bread is an investment in quality, community, and sustainability. The most compelling reasons to visit this Longfellow bakery center on its core philosophy: they are creating better bread.
The products are worth choosing because of the intentional, time-honored process—the use of a natural sourdough culture and a high percentage of local whole grains results in bread that is far superior in flavor, texture, and nutritional value compared to conventionally baked loaves. The sourdough process makes the bread more digestible, while the whole grains deliver a robust, earthy, and satisfying taste. As customers attest, the breads and pastries are so inherently delicious that the fact they are often vegan and whole-grain focused is a welcome bonus, not a compromise on flavor.
Furthermore, by supporting Laune Bread, you are actively participating in the Minnesota local food economy. The bakery's dedication to sourcing nearly all its ingredients from Upper Midwest farmers ensures that your purchase helps cultivate a sustainable, regenerative agricultural system right here in the state. From their hearty whole-wheat loaves to a fun Friday pizza lunch—a clear local highlight—choosing Laune Bread is a way to ensure your food dollars support a women-owned, Asian-owned business that is committed to making the Longfellow neighborhood, and Minnesota as a whole, a better place, one wholesome, delicious loaf at a time. This is truly a community-focused bakery where you can literally taste the commitment to quality and local goodness.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've had several different bakery items and pastries including a fruit tart, an apple scone, wheat croissant and whole wheat bread with fruit plus chocolate babka. Everything I have tried has been wonderful, I actually had no idea it was a vegan bakery when I first went to purchase some things. This is a great place to try healthy and hearty wheat and vegan baked goods.
January 22 · Linda FranzenLongfellow is so lucky to have such a great local bakery in our neighborhood! The bread and pastries are awesome, the staff is wonderful, and also the pizzas on Friday are a fun lunch option. Love this bakery and can’t say enough good things about it!
September 19 · Hahn ChangHeavenly bread! Just amazing. Every one I have tried is incredible. Their hearty/dense German rye breads are amazing! I generally lean towards their bread over baked goods as I like a little more white flour and airiness in my pasteries. This I don’t think is a fault of theirs as they have a path and stick to it. That being said their orange anise spiral, sesame ball, dal filled croissant, and rye cookies are really amazing (fyi I think all those names are wrong more just descriptors of the product). Also if you like tea you have to buy the sticky rice black tea they sell. You can get it to drink there or buy some to go. It is soooo good! The service and vibe there is always warm and friendly. This place is amazing and worth checking out if you are a bread fan.
September 05 · Caleb erickson*Updated 4/24: Laune started doing subscriptions and delivery to a number of places in town, and recently updated their app for both! We have been getting in our order on Sunday's and picking up at Dogwood NE. We always get a loaf of bread and then our weekly end of week pastries. LOVE that we can have Laune close to home. This place is THE best!***Best bakery in town right now! This was my first time here and I got a number of things for take out. We ate every single thing we bought here, and more importantly liked it. It's a bit more of an 'earthy' bakery ~ perfect in our book. I really enjoyed the sandwich, and bought extra buns to make more sandwiches later in the week (froze them for a couple of days and they were still great after unthawing!). I was a little bummed the women in front of me slowly bought almost all the cookies they had; oh well guess I will have to come back.I really appreciate (and love to support) the effort's they make to support local farmers/use local ingredients ~ pretty amazing in this day and age.Tiff (I recognized her from their website) even came and packed up some of my goods noticing I was waiting :).The woman staffing the counter was very nice.Bright airy space (I can see if they had more seating it would be a popular hangout).Street parking (when there isn't the remnants of winter storms) seemed plentiful. The only thing I don't like about this place is that it isn't closer to where I live (Nordeast), but that makes it an extra special outing.
April 28 · D BarlowLaune Bread is a lovely light-filled bakery on Lake St. Their breads (all of them) croissants, rotating pastries, and cookies are exceptionally good. They have a top notch selection of packaged food products and gift items. The coffee is great and I recommend the tea menu as well. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and efficient.
