Lauretta Jean's Introduce
For residents across Oregon, Lauretta Jean's on SE Division Street has become synonymous with the perfect pie. Far more than just a typical Bakery, this cherished Portland institution, founded by owner Kate McMillen and named after her pie-baking grandmother, is dedicated to the art of handmade, all-butter crusts and seasonally-driven fillings. Since opening its doors in this location in 2012, Lauretta Jean's has cultivated a reputation that extends far beyond the city limits, consistently earning spots on national and local lists of the best pie shops.
The core of the business is, of course, the pie. Whether it's a seasonal fruit pie like the Boysenberry Peach or a celebrated cream pie like the Salted Honey Pie, the focus is always on using raw, locally sourced ingredients. This commitment to the local food economy, partnering with small farms for fruit, dairy, and grains, ensures that every slice captures the best flavors the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Beyond the sweets, the shop offers a surprisingly robust and equally praised savory menu, making it a full-service destination for Breakfast, Brunch, and casual dining. The atmosphere is described as "cozy diner meets Grandma's kitchen," featuring cute decor and a welcoming vibe that encourages both a quick visit and a leisurely Dine-in experience. Customers frequently praise the friendly and helpful staff, noting the "excellent customer service" that accompanies their delicious treats.
The result is a bakery that feels both homey and extraordinary, providing a nostalgic, yet contemporary, sweet and savory experience.

For local Oregon users, choosing Lauretta Jean's is choosing the best of Portland’s independent, high-quality baking scene. It’s worth the visit because this bakery has mastered the two most fundamental—and often hardest—baked goods: pie and biscuits.
The commitment to using an all-butter crust is the key difference that elevates their pies to national recognition. This is not a subtle detail; it is the foundation of their success, producing a flavor and texture that truly stands apart. For anyone planning a holiday gathering, a birthday (as one customer found when their daughter "Loved" the strawberry cake), or simply a treat for a quiet evening, the option to purchase a Whole Pie, or the convenience of a generous Slice Of Quiche ($8.00) makes meal planning effortless and delicious.
Furthermore, Lauretta Jean's seamlessly blends the sweet and the savory. You can start your day with a comforting Maple Sausage Biscuit, return for a Take & Bake Chicken Potpie for dinner, and finish the evening with a slice of Chocolate Cream Pie and an Old Fashioned from their happy hour menu. This versatility, combined with the genuine, high-quality, local sourcing, makes Lauretta Jean's not just a bakery, but a deeply-rooted and reliable Portland culinary treasure.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you have time to spare and don't mind waiting in line, the pies are pretty good. We tried the lemon bar, strawberry short pie, and the boysenberry peach pie! Lemon bar was quite zesty and delicious and the cream on the strawberry short pie was flavorful and light. Pie slices were $7 a piece and the store had such cute decor! Huge variety of flavors and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
August 31 · AvaI saw Lauretta Jean’s and I liked that they sell pies and cakes by the slice. I took my daughter and parents to try out the strawberry cake (and other items) to see if my daughter wanted it for her birthday. She. Loved. It. I called in my order a couple days ahead and I added cream puffs, pistachio cream puffs and cinnamon rolls to offer more variety. People were so excited when they realized where the order was from. My baby was very happy. Thank you for the amazing sweets and the excellent customer service. 🍓
July 20 · Chelsea LivengoodA wide selection of pies are available along with a small assortment of cookies, brownies, biscuits, and pastries.I had a slice of tart cherry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It had the perfect balance of tart to sweet. The crust was flaky and delicious.Hubby got a slice of chocolate cream and said it was the best pie he'd ever had.A return trip will be made soon.
May 08 · Rachel CumleyI'm a sucker for pie and this was probably the best pies I've had in a really long time!!!So fresh and delicious I needed more room in my belly to eat more but it was the perfect end to our dinner. Most definitely will be back!
July 17 · Raul PiscoyaThis place has been on my list to visit for some time now, and I was so excited to finally make it there. The pie is absolutely delicious! I started off with ordering a slice with ice cream and ended up having to get 2 slices to go! The pie traveled well back home with me, and I can't wait to make it back to Portland to try more flavors.
