- Artisanal Sourdough: The bakery is renowned for its bread, particularly the Baguette Tradition and other sourdough loaves, which are made using a sourdough starter that has been cultivated for over 20 years. Choosing an item from Michelina’s impressive display can be a delightful dilemma, but several items consistently receive high praise from local patrons and are absolutely worth prioritizing during your visit. The bakery is a must-try for any Californian with a fondness for authentic French boulangerie and pâtisserie.
The Sourdough Tradition: The cornerstone of the bakery's identity is its commitment to artisan bread. The Baguette Tradition is a standout choice, made with flour, water, salt, and their revered 20-year-old sourdough starter. The extended fermentation process results in a superior crust and deep flavor, highly recommended for elevating any meal. For a specialty loaf, look for the Multigrain Sourdough or the savory Focaccia with herbs de Provence, cherry tomatoes, and Mediterranean olives.
Signature Viennoiserie: You simply cannot visit Michelina without trying one of their croissants. The dedication to using AOP French butter ensures a flaky, rich, and perfectly layered pastry. Customer favorites include the Butter Croissant, the classic Chocolate Croissant, and the decadent Almond Chocolate Croissant, which has been described as super moist and perfectly balanced. The unique Kouign-amman and the rich Pain Suisse are also highly recommended for a truly French pastry indulgence.
Sweet Treats and Desserts: For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert case is a spectacle. The Strawberry Mousse, presented to look like a giant strawberry, is noted for its light, fluffy texture, tart strawberry filling, and subtle sweetness—a perfect, refreshing choice. The colorful and flavorful macarons are also a specialty, especially the raspberry and chocolate varieties, which are praised for having nice, non-overly-sweet flavors. Other excellent dessert options include the various fruit tarts, such as the Berries Tart or Fig Tart.
Savory Morning Choices: When looking for a satisfying breakfast or light lunch, the savory options are as authentic as the sweets. The Spinach and Brie Quiche is a popular choice, renowned for its creamy filling and expertly baked crust. For a more hearty meal, consider a savory tartine or one of their Parisian-style egg dishes, which combine the fresh, high-quality ingredients and bread that Michelina is celebrated for.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I recently tried the spinach and Brie quiche at Michelina in Los Angeles, and it was excellent — very soft and flavorful, with a perfectly crispy crust. The portion was a bit small, but still satisfying and delicious.I also tried the almond chocolate croissant, which was freshly made and tasty, with a nice balance of sweet almond and rich chocolate in a flaky, buttery pastry.Michelina has a real Parisian café feel, right in the heart of Los Angeles. The service was very good — friendly and attentive. They offer an espresso bar (though no filtered coffee), and their bakery selection is impressive. You’ll see croissants on display along the walls, plus cakes, bagels, cheesecakes, fruit tarts, and homemade bread, all made fresh and with visible care.Overall, Michelina is a great spot for authentic, fresh French-style baked goods, even if some items are on the smaller side. I look forward to trying more from their menu next time!
July 02 · Flying CarpetOverall this is a decent spot to visit while at the Grove and Farmers Market.Last time I stopped by, I enjoyed the croissant but the latte was terrible and the service was pretty lackluster.I stopped by today and service was much better. I ordered a strawberry mousse and couple macarons. The mousse wasn’t as sweet as I expected which was a good thing. It looks like a giant strawberry! The mouse is light and fluffy with a tart strawberry filling and soft cake. The raspberry macaron and chocolate macaron were pretty small for $3.00 and the texture wasn’t quite there but the flavor were nice (tart for the raspberry and chocolatey for the … chocolate) and they weren’t overly sweet
September 12 · Alex XanderWe ordered the Eggs Benedict Prosciutto and an omelet. Both dishes were well-prepared and tasted good, though not exceptional. The eggs were nicely poached, and the prosciutto added a nice touch, but the flavors didn’t quite stand out as much as we had hoped. The omelet was fluffy and well-cooked but could have used a bit more seasoning to elevate the taste.Service was friendly and efficient, and the presentation of the food was appealing. While the experience was enjoyable, there’s room for a little improvement to make the dishes truly memorable.
February 28 · Arman AnsariMy favourite was the chocolate almond croisant. It's buttery, flaky, slightly crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. It had the right amount of chocolate and almond filling as well. Well balanced. It was so delicious that I only had the bag left to be photographed... 😋
March 18 · K CThis bakery is remarkable by using 20 years old sourdough starter. The baguettes are excellent, now I want to try the bread! The chocolate croissants are huge, but it would be nice if there was more of the chocolate filling, but they are good. Danish is also huge, and everything is no mistake to get! Nice atmosphere of the market.
