What is Worth Choosing
For a truly memorable experience at MOULIN, the selection is vast, but some items clearly stand out among local patrons.
The Pastry Counter: A Must-Try
The singular element that draws the highest praise is the bakery's authentic French pastries. Customers, even those who are 'beyond picky,' claim the quality and craftsmanship are truly unique and unmatched across Orange County and even Los Angeles. The pastries are not 'fused with anything,' retaining the pure, classic taste found in France. While the specific selection changes seasonally, a visit to the bakery counter for a tart, cake, or other seasonal masterpiece is considered the essential reason to visit MOULIN. Individual tartes, such as the Apple Tarte, Apricot Tarte, and Pear/Almond Tarte are consistently available, providing a delicious, individual-sized French treat.
Savory Classics
The kitchen offerings are just as compelling for a full breakfast or lunch. The Quiche Lorraine (house-made ham and Emmental cheese quiche) and French Onion Soup are highly recommended, noted for being 'spectacularly delicious' and contributing to a 'wonderfully creative meal.' Other French favorites include:
- Le Croque Monsieur: The classic grilled house-made ham and cheese sandwich.
- Les Omelettes: Including the simple L'Omelette Nature, the filling L'Omelette Paysanne (with bacon or ham, onions, and potatoes), and the signature L'Omelette Moulin (with pesto chicken and mushrooms).
- Le Parisien Sandwiches: Fresh sandwiches served on their own Baguette Tradition, like Le Parisien Ham and Cheese (house-made ham, Emmental cheese, and butter).
Crepes and Viennoiserie
A variety of traditional French Crêpes are available, offering a light, sweet treat with fillings like Nutella, Apricot Jam, or simple sucre (sugar). While a classic Croissant is available as part of the viennoiserie selection, it is the more intricate, seasonal pastries that truly elevate the experience.
A Special Note on Value
It is worth noting that while the quality and authenticity of the pastries are universally praised, customers frequently mention that the price point is on the high end. For those looking for everyday French bread or simple pastries, the cost may feel 'insanely outrageous' compared to European prices. However, the prevailing sentiment is that the exceptional quality, true French craftsmanship, and authentic experience justify the price for a special treat, a birthday cake, or a truly indulgent outing. The incredible masterpieces created by the patissiers are considered a splurge for special events rather than a daily routine. Ultimately, a visit to MOULIN is an investment in an unparalleled culinary experience, a moment of Parisian perfection right here in California.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Moulin is the most perfect French cafe experience. I had Quiche Lorraine and French Onion Soup. Both dishes were spectacularly delicious! Then I visited the bakery counter for a delicious treat. Amazingly delicious, wonderfully creative meals in a quaint French cafe setting. I'm a visitor who had to return home, but I can't wait to return to Moulin! It's perfect!
February 27 · Bill HensonPerfection every single time.love the variety.there is no bakeries again that come even close to the quality and craftmanship of this place.truly unique .Finally TRUE french pastrie that taste just like the one in france and haven t been fused with anything .not as fancy as the newport location but cute and cozy. This is authentic you will not find better pastries in oc or inland.while the ham cheese baguette was a 1/10 , the vienoiseries were meh 5/10 ,the pastries are out of this word 10/10. I havent been able to find this quality even in LA . They pay attention to every detail . Im beyond picky and these made me almost wanna cry as it taste just like if you walked in a bakery in paris . The only down side is the insanely outrageous price point 15$ for a sandwish you can easily make at home 4-5 $ for vienoiserie ( you can buy a dozen at costco for that price) , 7$ for ONE crepe ( lmao , they could cut that price in half and still make a huge profit) and 8$ for one cake . For two people you will easily spend 50-60 if you add coffee on top .the location itself is small with limited selection but cute . My other down side was that there is NO HEATER OUTSIDE . Its attrociously cold early morning in winter maybe thats something they could invest into seeing how grossly overpriced everything is .overall come here for the pastries skip the sandwishes grossly overpriced which is a huge turn off . Its good for a special event or bday but not something you can go daily to pick up vienoiserie and baguette like you would in france ( as it cost more than double what u would pay in europe). They refresh their selection the pastries are pretty seasonal it wont be the same ones everytime you go back ( which is fun) . My tumbs up to the patissier for making incredible master piece pastries in US .the pastries are endlessly changing which is fun
August 13 · Emma PalominoI have been here twice now. The proprietor is very charming and will let you know the ingredients of items you’re unfamiliar with.Delicious food. Large seating area outside tables and chairs with umbrellas.
August 05 · Jennifer MaldonadoThe cakes and tarts are great, but unfortunately they don't have an oven and don't heat up their croissants! Which is a bummer because cold and stale aren't the best. But other pastries like mille feuille and lemon tart were incredible. Best mille feuille I've had in OC! There's no place to sit inside the cafe, but you can take your food and pastries to the general complex with portola etc, and there's lots of open seating spaces there
March 19 · Ishita SinghalNot a good value lunch compared to other locations. There was much less meat in the sandwiches than other MOULINs I have eaten at. The chicken pesto sandwich was about one slice of chicken thick, so I don't recommend ordering lunch here if you want to be full. The quality is amazing and it tasted wonderful, but it doesn't feel worth the price. Try a different MOULIN location. The chocolate croissant was good but somehow smaller than I remember it being? And there was a patch in the middle with no chocolate, not sure how that works since it's a baton.
