★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I love this place! If you like buffets, like I do, the food here is very fresh….they do a lot of business.Always good salads, assorted meats, Portuguese dishes. The best value for the money around. That’s why so many older locals are regulars here!
October 07 · J CasI stop in any time I'm in Newark. They carry the thick Portuguese style toast that I've only ever had on my many trips to Portugal. Coffee is great. They also have a variety of Portuguese pastries.
July 19 · Bernadette GoncalvesUpdate 5/1/23:Been here a couple more times with my parents and they also enjoyed it a lot. There's a lot of variety on rotation, and I continued to get the beef slices. They may look a bit dry sometimes, but was tasty and not too dry all 3 times I got it. My mom loves their bowl of soup ($3). Bottled water is $1 and soft drinks $1.50.You can pay with card or cash.Original review 2022:At $9/lb, their meal is great value! It's Buffet style, so sanitize your hands and grab a plate or a takeout container and pick your choosing! The price is different if you only take fish/meat ($17/lb), or fish/meat + salad ($15/lb), or salad/fruit only ($8/lb).Basically, if you want to be charged $9/lb you need to have at least around 50% of your plate consisting of sides, and the sign says that sides includes rice, potato, veggies, beans and salad includes lettuce, carrot, onions, tomato, and beets). There's a separate counter for salad/fruits, including a Russian salad (potato based salad with mayo). Would the Russian salad count as salad or as side? No idea! For my first try, I chose rice, beans, broccoli, peppers, grilled beef, and a bit of Portuguese sausage and what I assume to be some chouriço croquette. Everything was tasty, yet healthy. The fact that you can choose what you put there makes it easier to get an equilibrated dish.My husband got rice, chickpeas, a piece of fish, oxtail?, and a potato. Most things were delicious here too, the oxtail had a strong wine taste to it which he appreciated but I didn't. The fish was a bit hard and we were not fans. The sardinhas looked better, but I don't usually like sardinhas 😭 or fish in general.Once you're done choosing, you can pay with cash or card at the counter next to the buffet area and they weigh in front of you.Since this was the first time we got food here, we weighed the food at home and we had a bit over 2lbs (~2.2 lbs) but got charged just 2 lbs. Not sure if they rounded down to account for the container. We got it to go because it was quite full at 1:20pm, but you can put everything on a plate instead of a container and for plates, they have an empty one on the weight so they can offset the weight of the plate for you.It was overall a good experience and we will be back to try other dishes and combinations!
May 01 · Cecilia ChungEnjoyed the lunch buffet. Food was delicious. Very reasonably priced, charged 9.00 per lb. Was told by the coworkers who I ate with there is something different every day. Will definitely go back!
June 09 · Shauna MoralesVery nice home style place. Good coffee and food. Very reasonably priced. A lot of locals eat here and this is always an indication of quality. Try it!!
