Original Cream Puffs® by the Wisconsin Bakers Association Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For nearly a century, the **Original Cream Puffs® by the Wisconsin Bakers Association** has been more than just a dessert; it is an enduring, cherished tradition for millions of Wisconsinites. Housed at their production facility on the Wisconsin State Fair grounds in West Allis, this operation is recognized nationally as the busiest bakery in the country during the State Fair’s run. Their history dates back to 1924, when the Wisconsin Bakers Association first began operating the bakery to showcase and promote the state’s proud dairy industry—a mission that remains central to their identity today.
The classic Original Cream Puff is a masterpiece of simplicity and quality: a light, airy choux pastry shell, generously dusted with powdered sugar, and filled to the brim with smooth, fresh, sweet whipped cream made from genuine Wisconsin dairy products. This perfect balance of crispy shell and luscious filling is what keeps fairgoers eagerly anticipating the treat all year long, often citing it as a "treat worth waiting all year for!" While the Original flavor remains the timeless favorite and an absolute staple, the operation has evolved to embrace variety, particularly with the debut of new flavors like the rich **Chocolate Cream Puff** and limited-edition seasonal options like Strawberry, Pumpkin Spice, and even Candy Cane during special pop-up events.
Though the cream puffs are most famously sold during the 11-day Wisconsin State Fair—where over 400,000 are often sold—the Wisconsin Bakers Association occasionally offers these delights at other seasonal festivals and through specialty ordering opportunities. The facility’s commitment to mass production while maintaining a high standard of quality is remarkable, showcasing the best of Wisconsin’s baking and agriculture to thousands daily.
Location and Accessibility
The heart of the Original Cream Puffs operation is located at **1095 Dairy Ln, West Allis, WI 53214, USA**, which places the dedicated bakery building directly on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park. This location is easily accessible for residents of West Allis, Milwaukee, and the wider region, especially during the major events held at the park.
Recognizing the massive popularity and high demand for their product, the operation has made significant efforts to streamline the purchasing experience, particularly concerning accessibility and convenience. The facility is fully committed to accommodating all patrons, featuring a **Wheelchair accessible entrance** and a **Wheelchair accessible parking lot**. This ensures that the iconic Wisconsin treat is available to everyone attending the fair or visiting the location during specific sales periods.
Furthermore, the bakery has implemented specialized service methods to handle the high volume of customers efficiently. They offer a highly convenient **Drive-through** option, which allows customers, particularly those pre-ordering multi-packs, to secure their puffs without navigating the dense fair crowds. **Takeout** is also available. While purchasing can sometimes involve lines, especially during peak fair hours, the availability of modern pre-order systems and quick pick-up lanes, alongside accepting **Credit cards** for payment, helps manage the crowds and keeps the line moving, proving that this long-standing tradition is keeping pace with modern customer expectations.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had the new chocolate cream puff at the State fair Friday. I had previously ordered a 6 pack with 3 chocolate and 3 original which I picked up early morning at the park the following Monday. None of them were very chocolatey. Next time we'll get the original. The originals in the 6 pack were good with lots of cream. The chocolate was sadly lacking cream.
August 06 · Dave KerseyWe love the Wisconsin State Fair Cream Puffs! It’s a treat worth waiting all year for! To avoid waiting in line, we ordered and prepaid for them online this year using x.com on WI state fair site. Got confirmation for cream puffs along with entrance tickets; So far, so good! After a great day at fair, we went into dairy bldg to pick up our order. As expected, the line was long! We found a staff member who said it would be easiest to head outside to the “pick up” window; okay. There were three windows: 2 ”order” windows and 1 “pick up” window; we got into the long “pick-up”window with ~100 other people. After about 20 minutes we arrived at the window, using mobile phone, we showed the upc on confirmation only to be told, “you need to take that to the “order” window for a printed voucher and then get back in line in the “pick up” window .” Baffled, i reworded the attendants instructions just to be sure. I verbalized a solution they might consider in the future to keep cream puff fans happy; printed and posted signs that explained the process of ordering and picking up. The “pick up” window line had now tripled in length since we were re-routed. We left the fair today without our pre-ordered, pre-paid cream puffs. Argh!
August 04 · penny johnsonEverything went smooth until I opened them when I got home - one was CONSIDERABLY smaller - unacceptable!
August 07 · Lee PatersonThe staple of the wisconsin state fair has always been a closing treat for my family. It's unfortunate that we will be giving up this old annual tradition after this year's poor quality. The size consistency and lack of cream inside the cream puff has solidified the time for change in this tradition. From the pictures you can see the different sizes and the lack of cream. The cream itself was not as sweet as normal, which makes me believe they may have even changed the cream recipe for a bland favor. For the price point, you are better off going to the Pinecone by Johnson Creek and getting a real Wisconsin cream puff instead of one from wisconsin state fair (@Prairie Farms), which is an Illinois company. I think what disappoints me the most, is that I expected better of the long time favorite. If I could rate it a zero I would.
August 17 · Jennifer HoltslanderThe new refresh is just flat out horrible. Gray and white, really nothing on the walls, looks so uninviting and boring office look. The cream puff area needs some life and fun on the walls.
