St. George's Donuts Introduce
For over five decades, St. George's Donuts has been an undeniable staple in the Springfield, Missouri community, establishing itself as the quintessential, old-fashioned, traditional donut shop. Since 1971, this family-owned establishment has proudly served Southwest Missouri, earning a reputation for its commitment to making donuts the "old-fashioned way"—fresh, large, and made with a dedication that shines through in every bite. This is more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it's a piece of local history, offering a nostalgic feel and the comforting, irresistible smell of freshly baked goods.
The shop functions as a classic triumvirate of sweet indulgence: a dedicated donut shop, a warm and inviting pastry purveyor, and a quality coffee stop, ensuring all your morning or afternoon cravings are met. While the full array of pastries is impressive, it is the classic donuts that have cemented St. George's place in local hearts. Their plain ole glazed donuts are frequently cited as the best-seller and a local benchmark for quality, praised for their incredibly chewy, moist, and satisfying texture.
Customers often describe their experience here as stepping into the best traditional donut shop in the four-state area, a sentiment backed by the long-standing dedication of the owner who has been personally making the donuts for over 50 years. This longevity and consistency are what set St. George's Donuts apart from larger, less personal chains. Whether you’re stopping in for a solo quick visit or picking up three dozen for a last-minute party, the quality remains consistently excellent, as evidenced by the high praise for the "huge hit" of a last-minute mixed order.
Beyond the famous glazed variety, other crowd-favorites include the massive, handmade cinnamon rolls—often humorously described as "bigger than your head"—the richly flavored apple fritters, and the traditional long johns. The shop takes pride in making their donuts, pastries, icings, and glazes all from scratch, ensuring that their treats are flavorful without being overly sweet. They also offer a strong coffee program, featuring a custom "St. George's Blend" from local roasters, Mudhouse Coffee, ensuring your morning cup is as fresh and locally sourced as your donut.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I normally love this place, so I decided to order a number donut for my daughter's birthday. As soon as I opened it, I was disappointed. Ordered colored sprinkles, assuming they'd be colorful regular sprinkles since they're on a birthday number donut, but instead they were fall themed. The donut itself is overcooked and did not taste good at all. It looked old when I picked it up, and no one at the party tried it because of how it looked. I don't recommend the birthday number donut.I have also noticed a decline in service over the last year. The people running the front counter are awkward to interact with and rude sometimes.
September 08 · Amaris MorrowI popped in to grab 3 dozen donuts for a last minute birthday party..and they were FANTASTIC! I was unsure what kind besides my favorite plain ole glazed so 2 dozen glazed and she picked the rest and did GREAT was a huge hit! Thank you!
April 15 · April SSt. George’s Donuts – East Sunshine, Springfield, MOI’ve been coming to St. George’s Donuts on East Sunshine for over 30 years. It’s been a local favorite for my family and me, and I’ve always appreciated the fresh, flavorful donuts that made this place stand out. That’s why my visit yesterday morning around 8 AM was so disappointing.I picked up couple of twist donut that didn’t even look like twist, alsohalf dozen classic glazed—two of my longtime favorites—and both varieties were noticeably dry, lacking any real flavor or freshness. They tasted more like they’d been sitting out overnight than made fresh that morning. The texture was dense and stale, which is not at all what I’ve come to expect from St. George’s.I really hope this was just an off day. This shop has always been a part of our weekend routine, but quality like that makes me think twice. I’d love to see the consistency return to what it used to be.
June 29 · Michael BSuch a cute spot. The place was clean and welcoming. Staff was friendly. Most of the donut options looked kinda old (dry) and $2 for a donut is a bit high. Hence the - star. Other than that it was a great place and my donut was pretty good!
December 08 · Daina PThe only way to see the display case full is by going before 6 a m. The donuts are that good and the apple fritters are perfect.
