Taboun House مخبز بيت الطابون Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents across the Illinois region, particularly in and around the Oak Lawn area, Taboun House ($ مخبز بيت الطابون $) stands out as a unique and authentic culinary destination. More than just a bakery, this establishment is a celebrated source for traditional Levantine and Middle Eastern baked goods and cuisine. Patrons in Illinois seeking a genuine taste of the region—often referred to affectionately as "Little Palestine"—have found a true home here.
The name "Taboun House" references the "taboun," a traditional clay oven used historically for baking flatbreads, and the bakery honors this heritage by focusing on products that are made from scratch daily. This dedication to authentic preparation results in food that is consistently fresh, soft, flavorful, and incredibly hard to stop eating, as attested by loyal customers. The atmosphere is centered on a family-owned business model, meaning every customer benefits from the owner’s welcoming nature and the staff’s super friendly and helpful service.
The menu is a deep dive into savory and sweet bakery staples, most famously the Taboun Pies and Flat Bread Pies, often referred to as 'Manakeesh' (or 'Manaeesh'). Manakeesh are a popular Levantine flatbread that serves as a canvas for various toppings like the traditional Zatar (a savory thyme blend), different cheeses, or Mohammara (a red pepper and walnut paste). Taboun House also offers an array of wraps, sandwiches like Falafel and Shrak, and hearty meals such as Kofta and Chicken trays.
Taboun House has quickly earned a reputation for being one of the best and cleanest bakeries in the Oak Lawn area. It is a place that evokes a sense of nostalgia for those familiar with the cuisine, while offering an exciting and delicious discovery for newcomers. The friendly service and high-quality, authentic food make it a definite five-star experience for any Illinois local looking to "go hungry and leave happy."

What is Worth Choosing
For anyone in Illinois searching for an unparalleled and authentic bakery experience, Taboun House in Oak Lawn is an essential choice. The value proposition here is built entirely on its dedication to authentic, scratch-made Levantine cuisine—a significant difference from generic bakeries or large chain restaurants.
What makes Taboun House truly worth choosing begins with the foundational quality of their baked goods. Everything is made from scratch, resulting in products like their large bread, which customers describe with high praise for its "great taste." The Taboun Pies and Flat Bread Pies are the stars, offering a soft, fresh, and flavorful experience that satisfies a deep craving for authentic 'Manakeesh.' A popular choice is the Zatar and Cheese Pie ($15.00), which expertly balances the savory spice blend with rich cheese. The affordable pricing of individual flatbread pies, with options like Zatar at just $2.50 or Meat Pie at $3.50, makes this authentic taste accessible for a quick and satisfying meal.
Beyond the bread, the menu surprises with specialized items that impress even those with deep roots in the cuisine. The Arayes (Meat Pie) is a "delightful surprise," and the Spinach Pie is noted for tasting "just like my mamas," which is the highest possible compliment for traditional food. Even the sandwiches, such as the spicy chicken wrap, are lauded as some of the best that local customers have ever had, demonstrating that their expertise extends beyond simple baking.
Finally, the experience of visiting Taboun House is one of warmth and community. Being a family-owned business, the consistently welcoming owner and friendly staff create a comfortable environment that reinforces the sense of a genuine local discovery. This combination of exceptional authenticity, high-quality scratch preparation, extensive menu variety, and great value, all wrapped in genuinely friendly service, firmly establishes Taboun House as the premier choice for Levantine baked goods in the Illinois area, and a must-visit in the Oak Lawn community.

October 17 · Nadeem OlayyanFinally: a place with nostalgic kras and manakeesh. Fresh, flavorful, soft, and hard to stop eating. Of course - everything is made from scratch! The arayes (meat pie) was a delightful surprise, my child keeps asking to go back for more. The spinach tasted just like my mamas, which means it’s the best. And their chicken fajita was delectable! Go hungry. Leave happy. Family owned and the nicest people. So happy to finally have a kras taste of the Middle East in Little Palestine.
November 12 · Leena SuleimanFinally a place that actually stuffs their pies and it doesn’t feel like you’re just eating bread. . I tried a cheese pie and a spicy spinach pie, which were both very good and the spinach had perfect amount of lemon in it . I will definitely be visiting this place again. Also the people there are very nice.
August 19 · Ruru ShAmazing customer service. And every dough pastry is light. My favourite was the hotdog pizza, cheese , and definitely the lamb and semna baladi pies. The man was so sweet he even gave us some sweets. They were perfect.I would definitely recommend some kahwa sada as a dyafa as they just opened, alongside their delectable baklavas and baloreya.
