What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Tamaleria Maria’s is about seeking out a local purveyor focused on a singular, essential category of traditional Mexican fare: the tamale. For local Californians, especially those with a deep appreciation for this specific culinary tradition, the shop offers a concentrated selection of favorites. The key offerings that make this a convenient local stop are the comprehensive range of tamale fillings—from the deeply savory Rojo Puerco to the delightful Rajas Con Queso—and the availability of traditional sweet options like the Pina and Fresa tamales. This specialization means that the bakery is designed to be the go-to spot for tamale-specific needs, whether for a solitary meal or a family order.
It is worth noting that the commitment to a traditional product requires a high degree of quality control, and recent customer feedback has indicated potential inconsistencies in product quality, including concerns about cooking, flavor, and the meat-to-masa ratio, especially following a potential change in management. However, in the dynamic world of small, local businesses, the core product—the variety of tamales and complementary tortas—remains the central draw. Patrons who value the convenience of Takeout, the speed of a Quick visit, and the option to pay with modern methods will find the shop’s operational model highly efficient. For a local user, visiting Tamaleria Maria’s is an opportunity to directly experience and support a neighborhood bakery focused on bringing these specific, traditional flavors to the El Monte community. We encourage local users to try the full menu, especially the traditional Champurrado, to form their own, most up-to-date opinion on these staple Mexican favorites. The accessibility and operational convenience make it a simple and quick stop for a truly authentic food craving.

September 26 · eric camposI have bought tamales from Maria's for years. It's been a while since I bought tamales. I didn't realize they were under new management. I was so disappointed with the tamales. They are so expensive and the tamales was under cooked, the pork was without taste and barely had any masa. I'll be looking for another place. I'm sorry to the new owners but your product is just not worth what your charging.
March 08 · Belinda RosalesI heard about this place having very good tamales by my best friends grandma and they didn’t disappoint especially because the tamales are done fresh daily and were very delicious. We order a dozen of the green sauce pork tamales and a dozen of the red sauce and pork tamales and they were both very delicious. The girl in the front was also very sweet in helping us order since it was our first time there. If you need a place to get your tamales, this is the place. Great food and outstanding service. I definitely recommend everyone to visit.
October 05 · Ninos GamesAt the time, the bakery was very clean, and customer service was excellent. The tamales were very delicious. My coffee delicious
May 22 · Jose “El GENTIL” PalmasMy family has been going here since the 90’s. Almost every weekend and even during the week sometimes. This was the only place we go to for tamales. When my family comes from Texas this is a must for them. My sister and all my nieces and nephews look forward to it. It has been a while since we went back and finally went this past weekend. I was so disappointed because I was craving tamales from Maria’s Bakery and was excited to buy some, but the tamales tasted so different. I got 6 red pork tamales, 5 green pork and one green chicken tamale. They weren’t fully cooked, the flavor was completely different from the OG Marias Bakery tamales. The flavor in the masa was plain, the chile in both the red and green sauce has no flavor. Also it’s a little pricey, I got 1 dozen and a small little plastic cup of salsa and it was $40.32. I don’t know if it’s a new family/owner running this place now, but if anyone knows where the OG Maria’s bakery people are let me know. I don’t know where else to buy tamales. Or is it the same family but now it’s the kids/new generation running it?
