What is Worth Choosing
For a local Virginian in search of a new favorite spot, The Bake Shop on Armistead Ave stands out for several compelling reasons that extend beyond a simple bakery experience. The business model prioritizes artisan quality and local community connection, making every purchase an investment in local craftsmanship.
The most significant factor worth choosing is the shop’s deep commitment to house-made products. In an age where mass-produced food is common, knowing that the pastries, bagels, and savory cream cheeses are crafted right there—often utilizing a complex "house-cultured sourdough program"—is a powerful draw. This dedication results in superior flavor and texture that is immediately noticeable, as highlighted by customers who appreciated that “everything there is made in-house.” This quality assurance means Virginians can trust that they are receiving the freshest possible product.
Secondly, The Bake Shop excels as a multi-service hub. It is highly worth choosing because it eliminates the need to visit separate locations for a specialty coffee, a high-quality bagel, and a freshly baked pastry. You can seamlessly grab a rich coffee from a local Virginia roaster, pair it with an excellent item like the lox-topped Asiago bagel, and even pick up a loaf of artisan bread for dinner, all in one quick, satisfying trip. This efficiency is especially valuable for busy locals in the Colonial Williamsburg area.
The welcoming neighborhood atmosphere and accessibility also contribute greatly to its choice-worthiness. The location on a quaint, quiet part of Armistead Avenue, combined with the relaxing outdoor seating, offers a perfect meeting place. Furthermore, the commitment to accessibility with wheelchair entrances and parking ensures The Bake Shop is a truly inclusive community resource. This makes it an ideal spot not only for a quick coffee run but also for a leisurely morning where one can relax and truly enjoy the vibrant, friendly local culture of Williamsburg. For anyone prioritizing quality, convenience, and a genuine local feel, The Bake Shop is a highly recommended addition to your regular rotation in the Virginia culinary scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It's a very cute place to get pastries, bread, bagels, sandwiches, and coffee items. Everything there is made in-house, even the flavored cream cheese. The staff that we encountered that morning were super cool and very eager to help with your selections. Very friendly and answered all our questions about certain items on the menu. The shop is set in a very quiet and quaint area with a seating area outside, under umbrellas. It was very enjoyable and we'll definitely go back there on our next visit to Colonial Williamsburg, Va.
July 01 · cpowife93usnLoved everything about the bake shop! Went here 2 times on our 4 day trip down to Williamsburg. The matcha was really smooth and tasted REAL. Their bagels are spot on, I’m a big lox fan so willamsburg bagel was amazing on that Asiago bagel. Deff a must visit
August 19 · Vishal MistryDrip coffee cap was loose. Coffee spilled everywhere.I paid for bacon for my avocado toast -$3.00- only to have imaginary bacon added. No bacon but they were sure to charge the 3 dollars. Iced coffee was good. $42.04 for an incomplete meal. Thank youuuuuuu!
August 03 · Michelle MartinezI’ve been with the Bake Shop for a long time. The sandwiches and coffee are great and that keeps me coming back. What frustrates me is a wait time of 15 minutes with no more than 5 people in the store. If it’s packed and busy, I totally understand waiting. But I’ve visited many other bagel joints and the wait time is max 10 minutes, even if it’s busy.
April 20 · Justin SherlockI haven't had their pizza since the Detroit style days (which my fam loved), but finally had their new pizza and it's great... like, really great. The crust is maybe my favorite in Wburg. Maybe one day they open up a 2nd location just dedicated to their pizza!
