The Dough Miner Introduce
Introduction / Overview
The Dough Miner stands out in Salt Lake City’s vibrant food scene as a truly unique destination, blending a traditional international staple with beloved local Utah flavors. More than just a bakery, this establishment functions as a full-service café, bringing a diverse and hearty menu to the local community. The core specialty is the Cornish Pasty—a savory, handheld pie that gained popularity among miners (including those historically in Utah’s silver mines). The Dough Miner is committed to reviving this authentic tradition, offering both the classic, meat-and-vegetable-filled versions and creative local takes, such as the widely praised Funeral Potato Pasty.
Beyond the savory offerings, The Dough Miner has become equally famous among Utah locals for its substantial sweet treats. Visitors consistently rave about the "huge" and "monster-size" handcrafted doughnuts and cinnamon rolls. The cafe prides itself on scratch-made quality, generous portions, and a unique "SLC Style" approach to its bagel and bagel sandwich menu. From a friendly, professional tone, this is a local spot that encourages community, providing a welcoming environment for all patrons while fueling your day, whether you are heading to the office or off for a mountain adventure. It successfully marries the function of a bakery, bagel shop, donut shop, and café under one distinctly Utah-inspired roof.

For Utah locals, The Dough Miner is absolutely worth choosing when you seek unique flavors, massive portions, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. If your goal is to find a fresh, hearty, hand-held meal to sustain you during a busy workday or a weekend hike, the savory pasties—especially the Utah-celebrated Funeral Potato Pasty or the filling Miner’s Breakfast Pasty—are an unparalleled choice. The option to buy them in a frozen 3-Pack for at-home use adds tremendous value for meal prep.
Furthermore, if you are looking for a true "cheat day" dessert or a massive breakfast treat, the HUGE DM Doughnuts are a must-try. As noted by one customer, they are literally "as big as our heads," offering incredible flavor and freshness that make the 15-minute drive "definitely worth it." The dedicated focus on making a high-quality, dense, and "SLC Style" bagel, complete with fresh sandwiches like the Lox It Up, makes it a contender against specialty bagel shops. While there can be minor service fluctuations typical of busy, locally-owned spots (as suggested by the note on staffing in one review), the overall commitment to high-quality ingredients, unique menu items, generous portions, and an inclusive, friendly customer experience makes The Dough Miner a standout local gem and a key part of the Salt Lake City food landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was in Salt Lake City to have some surgery and my husband and I were looking for a locally owned place that we could go and get breakfast or Donuts. When we walked into this, we were walking by a very kind gentleman and offered. If we needed any help with the menu he was there to help us and that we could order whenever we were. When we were looking up the website and saw the donuts, we were unaware that the donuts were literally as big as our heads. The taste was amazing. They were very fresh. You could tell the ingredients that they were made with was fresh and they offered a very good variety. We also did get one of the bagels and split those for breakfast and I would definitely say that if you normally eat a bagel on your own that you would have trouble finishing a half of one of these as they are that big and they have a lot of stuff on them.We continue to look around and found that they offer little novelty items such as barbecue sauce, mustard and things like that that come in cute little bottles. We will definitely go back there again if we return to the area as it was definitely worth the 15-minute drive from our hotel room.
August 25 · Jami TharpCute place. First experience was a little rough. I got an everything bagel with butter and cream cheese. Bagel tasted great but it was ironically doughy. Cook that dough after you mine it, and support each other y'all. One guy working the front making coffee and taking orders while a handful of coworkers are out back smoking. Plenty of parking, would totally live here having this place downstairs. Cheers!
September 10 · Stephen BowzerThe food was delicious. The server was nice and helpful. We got the food promptly. We picked a good time to go because it wasn’t too busy. We got the Classic Pasty, miner’s Breakfast Pasty, and Grumpy Morning Miner. We all enjoyed them. Two huge donuts yummy.
May 11 · Gordon AllredThe donuts are the size of a small cake...SO big. They have a super crispy bottom and amazing flavor. Highly recommend if you're trying to decide on what to eat around here! The coffees were okay, but the donuts were 👍
September 08 · Abby MoliskiI’m so tired of the places going out of their way to make everything oversized. Strawberry cheesecake donut was the better donut out of the 3.Strawberry 8/10Glaze 3/10Maple 3/10The donuts are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dry. You can barely taste the glaze.
