The Grateful Bread Company Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of Smyrna, Georgia, and the surrounding metropolitan Atlanta area, The Grateful Bread Company stands as a beacon of genuine artisan baking. Primarily known as a wholesale bakery that has supplied metropolitan Atlanta hotels, restaurants, and caterers with custom handmade breads and pastries since 1999, this establishment also opens its doors to the public for limited retail hours. This unique model allows Georgia consumers direct access to the same high-quality, preservative-free baked goods that fuel some of the region's top culinary businesses.
The bakery is celebrated for its commitment to classic, time-tested baking methods. Their dedication to using freshly-milled organic whole grain flours and long fermentation times, particularly for their renowned sourdough, sets them apart from mass-produced competitors. For local customers, this means the difference is palpable in both the flavor and texture of every loaf and pastry. Beyond traditional breads, The Grateful Bread Company also captures attention with unique offerings like their Pretzel Chips and Lavash Crackers, providing a gourmet snack alternative that perfectly complements cheeses and dips for Georgia gatherings.
While the menu is primarily focused on exceptional bread and pastries—including customer favorites like cinnamon rolls and croissants—the company also provides a basic, delicious breakfast menu for those who visit during retail hours, featuring fresh items like omelets and pancakes. This local Smyrna institution operates a lean, focused retail service, meaning you must time your visit correctly, but the reward is worth the planning: fresh-out-of-the-oven excellence.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1You all know potato chips and pretzels. But have you ever heard of Pretzel Chips? I stopped by a Smyrna bakery near me, about one-half mile east of Smyrna Village Green, and I picked up a bag of these Pretzel Chips, in addition to some bread and Lavash Crackers for cheese. I've always loved those "bigger than your hand" german pretzels dipped in mustard. So I took a few these chips out of the bag, dipped them in my favorite mustard, and I have now found my newest favorite snack chip. You got to try these new Pretzel Chips. They are awesome!
July 05 · Richard KnutsenThe retail shop is open on Friday’s. You can step in and someone will let you know what they have available. I got a cinnamon roll and a croissant and yes it was as good as it looks!😋
October 09 · Katherine LezamaFabulous! We drive 35 minutes to get here, and it's well worth it. The cinnamon buns are the best we have ever had: just the right amount of cinnamon, baked fresh, and not too sweet. Cookies are so yummy and such a bargain. The croissants will spoil you on what you buy elsewhere. If you get croissants at most bakeries or coffee shops, they are baked off site and are previously frozen. everything is from scratch at this absolute gem. Service is so very friendly.
January 03 · Lou ABest bakery in Smyrna. They are open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays and bake all sorts of breads and all types of pastries and cookies fresh out of the oven. Today I picked up some challah bread which is so so good. I had it sliced and then realized it was cut too thin for the french toast I was making and they had no problem switching it to a whole uncut loaf to fit my recipe.I've brought their sour dough breads, wheat bread, croissants, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies and pretzels. Everything is right out of the oven and it's all so good and so fresh. They are so friendly and the prices are good. A real neighborly feel and authentic bakery. I looooove it. I Highly recommend. Would give more stars if I could.
June 30 · Johan BrownHusband/wife ran. The wife runs the counter & food. She is the sweetest soul! Their artisan breads are excellent. We had the Mineral Bluffalata, Scott’s Hot Italian, & pasta salad. Everything was fantastic! Perfect little lunch spot. Great, small town, family type atmosphere! 1 million out of 10 recommended!
