## What is Worth Choosing
Choosing **The Lovin' Oven Bakery** means prioritizing proven baking excellence for your most important events. While the store has been noted for certain operational and aesthetic inconsistencies, the quality of the final, crafted product is what keeps this Historical Lancaster Gem in business, particularly for specialty and occasion cakes.
### The Baking Excellence for Major Events
The most compelling reason to choose this bakery is its specialization as a **Wedding bakery** and **Cake shop**. When the occasion demands a cake that tastes genuinely homemade and delicious, this is the destination. The consistent reviews praising the cakes as **"absolutely delicious"** and **"perfectly moist"** confirm their superior baking skills. If you are planning a retirement party, a wedding, or a major family celebration, the baking expertise is what you are ultimately investing in.
### Acknowledge and Manage the Service Experience
As a patron, it is wise to approach the order process with clear expectations and communication, based on the feedback from other Texans. While the shop clearly needs to "invest time, money, and organization" into its interior, customers focused on the finished product should be prepared for the older, cluttered atmosphere. Furthermore, when placing a custom order, consider the following best practices suggested by past experiences:
- **Confirm Payment:** Since a **credit card convenience fee** is charged, asking about this fee upfront is highly recommended for financial clarity, or simply paying with cash.
- **Plan for Delays:** While a pickup time is set, plan to arrive with a cushion of time, as delays beyond the scheduled time may occur. This prevents unnecessary stress, especially when the cake is needed for a party.
- **Verify All Details:** Even if you provide a typed order, take the time to **review the cake** when it is presented to you before leaving the store, to check for any errors in writing or decoration, even if you are running late.
### The Simplicity of In-Store Treats
For a **Quick visit**, the focus is on grabbing a slice or a small dessert. While one customer noted a stale taste in cake slices, this could be an isolated incident of "old cuts." Given the high praise for the overall freshness and taste of new orders, an in-store purchase is still worth the risk for Texans who appreciate supporting a historical local business and are looking for that moist, perfectly baked texture.
In essence, The Lovin' Oven Bakery is an authentic Lancaster institution where the baking talent shines brightly. Customers should proceed with an understanding that they are choosing unparalleled cake quality in a setting that reflects its rich, if visually unpolished, history. By communicating clearly and prioritizing the end product, you can ensure a successful and delicious experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I know this is historical Lancaster Gem, so I don’t want to be too harsh but I have to be honest. This was my first time going. Firstly , that store needs to be completely cleaned and DUSTED , I was shocked at the amount of junk, papers, and old stuff just stacked up surrounding these beautiful desserts. It is like an episode of hoarders on the inside. I should have turned around immediately.I grabbed some cake slices. Perfectly moist and baked to perfection! However they tasted how the bakery looks! They had a stale refrigerator taste, not fresh and sweet. Maybe I got some old cuts?Overall, this place looks like it was once great, but the owners need to invest time, money, and organization into this business. It needs a complete makeover and revamp from top to bottom.
August 08 · A BenI visited the Lovin' Oven in Lancaster last week to order a large sheet cake for a department retirement party. First, the good news: the cake was absolutely delicious—perfect in every way. While I was a bit surprised by the $140 price tag, I didn’t hesitate since they agreed to have it ready by the next day. However, I did notice an extra charge on my receipt as I was leaving the store. I initially assumed it was sales tax, (my is tax free) but when I went back inside to ask, the staff member I spoke to (the same one who took my order) seemed a little irritated that I questioned it. That’s just my impression, of course. She explained it was a credit card convenience fee. Fair enough but it would have been nice of her to inform me BEFORE it was charged to my card. When I returned the next day at 12:52 PM (for a 1:00 PM pickup), the younger staff members appeared a bit flustered and couldn’t locate my order right away. One of them went to get the same woman I had spoken to the day before, who promptly told me, “You’re early—you requested 1 PM.” Okay, I was eight minutes early, but her tone felt unnecessarily curt. I glanced at my coworker just to make sure I wasn’t imagining the attitude—she noticed it too.The cake wasn’t ready until 1:20 PM. It was needed for a party, so the delay caused me a little stress. Despite the inconvenience, no one offered an apology or explanation for the late pickup. One staff member did show me the cake and asked if I wanted to review it, but I declined since I was already running behind and wouldn’t have had time for corrections anyway. One of the employees walked the cake to my car, explaining that it's store policy for them to do so. I appreciated the help, though I found it odd they would assign that task to someone who appeared to have an leg or foot injury.Back at the office, I noticed that a word of the cake’s writing had been changed. What’s strange is that I had typed out the wording I wanted, and I even saw the staff staple my typed note to the order form. I’ve visited this location several times before, but this visit really stood out in terms of the lack of customer service. No apology, no discount—just a noticeably chilly attitude throughout the process. While I’m beginning to accept that genuine customer service seems to be a dying art these days, I didn’t expect that from Lovin' Oven. I understand every business has the right to operate as they see fit, but this experience was truly disappointing. (S. Phillips)
June 05 · Jamie StarrDISAPPOINTED!!! We ordered a cake from this bakery for my nieces 15 celebration first off the cake was $400! Yes the cake presentation was pretty but for that amount of money they could have at least used REAL flowers on the cake for that amount of money! Second the cake was way to moist so as we were trying to cut the cake for our guests each piece was literally falling apart it was a huge darn mess!! Even our guests were asking what happened to the cake and why was it falling apart like that which was a little embarrassing. The taste was okay but nothing over the top and definitely not with all of that money spent! Then when the owner came to deliver the cake she wasn’t to friendly which I noticed right away I didn’t like her demeanor. She definitely needs to sharpen up her customer service skills especially when customers are spending so much money!!
October 01 · Lisa Marie GonzalesCame last Saturday to pick up a cake for a relative and wound up going back the same day for two cupcakes which were really good. Went there today for some carrot cake and chocolate cupcakes and got talked into a buying a cinnamon roll fresh out the oven and I must say that cinnamon roll was delicious. Highly Recommend. Thanks Ladies
March 11 · Bobby Nabors-PattNo stars is more like it but I didn’t have a choice……..Absolutely not worth $45 for a “edible image” I was NOT told would even be used on the cake NOT what I asked for. They do not advertise “edible images” on ANY of their cakes they display on their pics on Facebook or online they only show hand drawn (included the type of cake I wanted)so to me that’s false advertising ,not to mention they didn’t even put the Happy Birthday on the cake where I wanted / gave instructions to be put they said it “did not fit” which they didn’t call an ask me if it were ok to put it on the cardboard before picking it up.The only thing the man was concerned about was me using the word sticker instead of “edible image “he was not concerned about me being unhappy or being told it wasn’t even close to what I asked for 🤔extremely disappointed an will not recommend to anyone !Warning ⚠️ If your willing to take a chance on ordering a cake from this place for the first time make sure they don’t take the lazy way out an put a “edible image” on your cake unless you are purposely wanting a cheap looking cake.
