Town Bagel Introduce
Town Bagel in Wantagh has been a long-standing fixture in the community for many years, serving as a go-to spot for locals seeking a classic New York bagel experience. The establishment has a rich history, with its Wantagh location opening in 1995 and featuring a special grill area for omelettes and a self-serve coffee bar with eight varieties of coffee. It has remained a family-owned and operated business, a point of pride that distinguishes it from larger, corporate franchises. For decades, it has been a part of the daily routines of many residents, providing fresh bagels, sandwiches, and coffee. The shop's legacy is tied to the relationships it has built with its valued customers over the years. However, recent feedback from some long-time patrons suggests that changes in ownership or management may have impacted the customer experience. While some customers have expressed disappointment with perceived changes in staff focus, pricing, and food quality, the business's history and its past reputation as a well-oiled machine focused on customer satisfaction remain a part of its story. This established history and legacy are what many in the community associate with the name "Town Bagel." The shop has been known for its extensive menu, homemade salads, and a wide variety of cold cuts, positioning itself as "more than just a bagel store." The community's response to recent changes highlights the deep connection and expectations that locals have for this long-standing establishment. Its enduring presence and history are central to its identity, and the feedback from patrons, both positive and negative, reflects the importance of its role in the community.
The culinary offerings at Town Bagel are extensive, aiming to provide much more than just bagels. The menu includes a wide variety of bagels, such as cinnamon raisin, everything, egg, and onion, as well as low-carb and gluten-free options. The bagel selection is a key part of the offering, but the shop also has an extensive line of specialty cream cheeses, homemade salads, and cold cuts, a feature that was a first of its kind when the Plainview location opened. For breakfast, the grill area allows for a variety of egg sandwiches and omelettes, including options like the "Town Country Breakfast" and the "Egg Spress." The lunch menu is equally comprehensive, featuring wraps, hot paninis, and a variety of sandwiches from the deli. These offerings have traditionally been a significant draw for customers, providing a full-service experience that goes beyond a simple bagel shop. However, some recent customer feedback has noted issues with the execution of these items, such as an imbalance of ingredients and food being served cold. Despite these critiques, the menu itself is designed to offer a broad range of choices to satisfy various cravings, from a simple bagel with cream cheese to a more elaborate lunch sandwich. The self-serve coffee bar with eight daily varieties is another unique feature that has been a part of the shop's identity since the Wantagh location's inception. While the execution of these menu items has been a point of contention for some, the sheer variety and scope of the offerings remain a defining characteristic of Town Bagel.
Town Bagel is located at 1239 Wantagh Ave, Wantagh, NY 11793, a location that has been a part of the community for many years. Situated on Wantagh Avenue, the shop is in a central and easily accessible area for both local residents and those traveling from neighboring towns. The location on a main thoroughfare provides high visibility and makes it a convenient stop for a quick breakfast or lunch. The area is best navigated by car, and the shop is typically located in a commercial plaza that offers convenient parking, which is an important factor for customers on the go. The accessibility of the shop has allowed it to become a staple in the daily routines of many in the community. Its presence in a commercial area means it is often surrounded by other businesses, making it a natural stop during a day of errands. The ease of getting there, coupled with its long-standing presence, has cemented its role as a familiar and well-known part of the neighborhood landscape. However, the recent customer feedback about considering a competitor in Bellmore highlights the importance of the overall customer experience, including factors like efficiency and pricing, in maintaining a loyal local customer base, even with a convenient location. The physical location itself is a strength, but the overall value proposition is what ultimately drives customer decisions in a competitive market. The accessibility of the Wantagh Avenue location remains a key factor for the shop, as it ensures that it is easily found by both long-time residents and new visitors to the area.

The features and highlights of Town Bagel in Wantagh, based on its long history and customer feedback, are a mix of both positive attributes and areas of concern. For many years, a key highlight was the ownership's personal involvement, with the prior owner/boss "always present" and the staff working "like a well oiled machine." This focus on customer satisfaction and a well-run operation was a defining feature. The shop has also been known for its extensive menu, which goes beyond typical bagel shop fare to include a wide variety of sandwiches, paninis, and omelettes from a dedicated grill area. The self-serve coffee bar, a "first of its kind" when the Wantagh location opened, is another notable highlight. The variety of bagels, including low-carb and gluten-free options, also caters to a wider audience. However, recent reviews from long-time customers have brought to light some significant concerns. The "very disappointing" experience of a long-time customer, who noted a perceived change in ownership, highlighted issues with staff not being focused and a "lack of customer attention." Another review mentioned a "crazy" total charge and a lack of quality control, with a sandwich being "drowned in cheddar cheese" and everything else being "cold and MID." These issues with quality, pricing, and service are significant concerns that have led some customers to consider competitors. The phrase "the quality of this place goes down every year" from a former loyal customer is a strong indictment of a perceived decline. These points of criticism stand in stark contrast to the historical reputation of the shop as being highly focused on customer satisfaction. While the history and menu variety are strong points, the recent negative feedback from the community highlights that a great reputation must be consistently upheld through high-quality service and food.
- Extensive Menu: Offers a wide selection of bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, and more, going beyond traditional bagel shop fare.
- Long-Standing Presence: Has been a part of the Wantagh community for many years, with a history dating back to 1995.
- Family Owned: The business has remained family owned and operated, building relationships with customers over the years.
- Grill and Coffee Bar: Features a dedicated grill area for omelettes and sandwiches and a self-serve coffee bar with a variety of options.
- Varied Bagel Options: Offers a diverse range of bagels, including low-carb and individually packaged gluten-free options.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been coming to the Wantagh store for many years and there must have been a change of ownership or management.I came last week for two bagels with CC a coffee and a juice. Total charge 19.70? Seems a bit crazy. When questioned they admit mistake and charge 19.30. There was no one in front of us and we waiting a total of 20 minutes to complete our transaction. The staff is not focused or showing any sign gn of customers attention. Walking around aimlessly with no obvious purpose. Most staff with the exception of on guy have been changed. The prior owner/boss was always present and the staff worked like a well oiled machined. They were very focused on the customer satisfaction. If changes were made they should be reevaluated and changed again. Sorry to say I will consider a competitor in Bellmore.Very disappointing!
July 10 · Joe RileyFor $11 I expected them to know the ratio of cheese to egg to sausage on a SEC but no they drowned me in cheddar cheese and everything else was cold and MID. The quality of this place goes down every year I used to love town bagel.
February 07 · Kyle Fitzgeraldreally enjoy this place but unfortunately I will not be returning after this morning. I went there when they opened up around 5 AM. Got a few bagels with cream cheese and bacon egg and cheese waited 20 minutes. Was given a terrible attitude, Kept saying oh my god When I was putting in my order because she didn’t want to get my food.. I understand I was early and their first customer this morning, but if you’re not ready, maybe change your work hours if you still need to set up.. egg sandwich was gross and they burnt my muffin on the grill with butter
September 29 · Joseph SorrentinoWife went in and grabbed our bagels real quick to take home so I don't know how it was inside this time but it was nice in the past when I have gone. The bagels were delicious.
July 15 · Nathaniel LayVery clean store with a great layout for customers who either want to just wait for their order or who might decide to sit down and dine in.The staff are friendly, attentive and work hard to deliver a great business service!I have come here a few times now and I have tried a number of their bagel varieties all of which are fresh and tasty. Thet make sandwiches and wraps fresh every day ans I recommend either the cheese melt their Chicken Cesar Wrap! Both are very tasty! But if bagels are your thing then I recommend getting a bacon egg and cheese for breakfast!Stop by Town Bagel if you are in Wantagh and you won't be disappointed!
