Knocking down a couple of stars for the fact that they charge a mandatory 15% tip before you get anything. A place where one picks their own order at the counter and cleans up before they leave, the only "service" is cofee made and a pastry given in a baggy. Tip shall not be mandatory, it is customary. You want to raise the prices, do it. Don't show one price and have a 15% + tax when a payment is made.
May 04 · M “Tek” DiverI was born and raised in the Philippines and I was so happy that I discovered Tropicake in the farmer's market near me. All of their pastries and food are delicious and authentic and reminds me of home. My favorite is the mango float which is so hard to find in the US. I love their Ube cake with leche flan too. They do savory food from time to time and they are excellent.They now have a permanent schedule at Necessary Coffee (Mon, Fri, Sun) on top of the indoor winter market at Roosevelt Collections and the Summer Farmer's Market in Printer's Row Park and NEMA parking lot area.Lastly, Erma and her family are lovely people. They speak Bisaya so it's been wonderful connecting with her in my native language. They're a huge part of what made Chicago feel like home since I moved here.

I've tried cakes, pies, pastries, breads, lunch dishes (although seasonal and limited- pancit noodles, chicken adobo and rice, soups and bread combo) and it's all amazing!Highly recommend everyone give Tropicake a try! Delicious, variety, fresh, authentic tropical flavors along with some classics!
November 11 · J ChangI bought a couple of great pastries from here. Normally, I'd get a croissant or pain au chocolat, but I decided to try something new. The Spanish bread and the pan de ube (sweet purple yam) were very tasty. Good friendly service and reasonable price, too!
