Valerio’s Family Bake Shop Introduce
Valerio’s Family Bake Shop is a celebrated local institution in Los Angeles, serving as a vital hub for authentic Filipino culinary tradition. As a dedicated Filipino bakery, it specializes in the handmade creation of comforting breads, delightful pastries, and traditional desserts that evoke a strong sense of home and nostalgia for many California residents. The bakery's mission is to deliver a quality baking experience, offering fresh goods made to satisfy every craving.
The history of the Valerio name in baking traces back to the 1950s in the Philippines, with the family carrying that legacy, along with their cherished recipes and traditions, to the United States. While the original U.S. location opened in National City, California in 1979, the Los Angeles location on Santa Monica Boulevard maintains this commitment to preserving Filipino roots through the art of baking. It is a place where generations gather and new customers are introduced to the rich and distinct flavors of Filipino baked goods.
What sets Valerio’s Family Bake Shop apart is its unwavering focus on key Filipino staples. The air inside the shop is consistently filled with the scent of freshly baked goods, an aroma that is immediately welcoming. Staples like the iconic Pan de Sal (a soft, slightly sweet dinner roll), buttery Ensaymada, and savory-sweet Cheese Rolls are made with care and expert craft, often multiple times a day to ensure maximum freshness. This bakery is more than just a place to buy bread; it is a cultural custodian and a keeper of tradition, where every loaf and pastry tells a story of family, community, and heritage.
Despite its modest size, which creates an intimate, efficient atmosphere, the shop remains a cherished destination. Locals return repeatedly, with many noting that the warm, handmade Filipino pastries, especially the signature bread, instantly spark fond memories. Whether you are Filipino longing for the familiar tastes of your childhood merienda (afternoon snack) or a local resident eager to experience the warmth of authentic Filipino comfort food for the first time, Valerio’s Family Bake Shop is a truly unique Los Angeles bakery experience.

What Is Worth Choosing
When visiting Valerio’s Family Bake Shop, an experience focused on authentic Filipino comfort is guaranteed, and there are several must-try items that embody this tradition. The clear and primary choice for any customer is the Pan de Sal. This foundational Filipino dinner roll, made fresh multiple times a day, is the heart of the bakery and should be enjoyed warm, perhaps dipped in hot coffee or simply with a smear of butter. It represents the quintessential taste of Filipino baking and is the reason many loyal customers line up.
Following the Pan de Sal, exploring the ube (purple yam) items is essential, as the ingredient is a celebrated flavor in Filipino culture. The vibrant purple color and subtle, sweet, earthy flavor of the Ube Cake or Ube Pan de Sal make them both unique and highly popular choices for sharing or taking to a potluck. For a savory-sweet indulgence, a fresh Cheese Roll offers a perfect combination of soft, buttery bread and a delicate cheese topping. Finally, consider a whole Caramelized Flan Pie for a decadent dessert that is often noted for its quality.
While some reviews suggest inconsistent quality with certain fried items like turon, the enduring popularity and consistency of their core breads and rolls are what define this local Los Angeles institution. Arriving early to catch the freshest batches of Pan de Sal and Ube products, and remembering to bring cash, will guarantee the best experience at this traditional family bake shop.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I originally ordered two dozen turon via phone at this Valerio's location one day prior to pick up. The ambiance is pretty dated and there's only enough room to stand and place and/or wait for your order. When I arrived at the store this morning, I informed the lady that I'm going to pick up my order of two dozen turon. The lady replied and said, "oh we thought you only ordered one dozen." I insisted and specified that I explicitly ordered two dozen and not one dozen of turon. I felt disappointed with their incompetence of listing my order incorrectly. The staff said the other lady misheard my order. They couldn't sell me any further turon since another customer has already ordered ahead for 7 turon on display. I still paid for the one dozen turon that costs $15.60 cash. The lady apologized for their mishap, but I am still disappointed at this Valerios. My disappointment worsened when I brought the turon to my potluck, the turon was hella soggy and not sweet enough. The plantains itself were very soggy and did not have enough langka (jackfruit) and arnibal (caramlized brown sugar). It's kind of a blessing in disguise that my order ended up being one dozen because of their subpar taste and quality. After my catastrophic experience at this Valerios and tasting their subpar turon, it is very unlikely that I will order turon or any baked goods at this location. You're better off ordering turon somewhere else. Hay nako po, nakakadismaya at nakakahiya.
October 04 · Gene A.Vroomed by today to pick up Pilipino treats to share @ yet another business meeting. Order ahead to enjoy a whole carmelized Flan pie or the delicious bright purple Ube Cake. I was good scoring a dozen pan de sals: some choose the fuschia hued ube cake, pimento cheese or pineapple turnovers, or tuna or xioao baeng pork, fun fillings. Pan de sal is pillowy Pilipino central bread or roll. It is made fresh 6 times daily here. Very friendly pair of cashier & chef. There’s a Rite-Aid in the mini-mall of dubious pedigree, a great frozen yogurt shop, & a newly remodeled Filipino fry your own & market. I love great parking. I try not to drip frozen yogurt all over the upholstery of my vroom vroom on the way home. Most times, my will power is stronger than meeting immediate needs. Oh. Yay. Frozen yogurt & fried tilapia & pan de sal for later.
February 04 · Darcy DiamondAbsolutely delightful, I had originally come here thinking it was another branch of the Valerio Bakery chain but it appears to be an independent bakery.Their Pan de Leche is top notch, better than pretty much any other I've had for a long long time. Their giant cheese ensaymada was soft and flavorful and came apart nicely while picking at it. The macapuno (coconut) tart was delicious and flaky.I will absolutely be back to try more.
February 03 · Andrew B.Small, but full little bakery. Fresh, warm pandesal available and I love the ube pandesal with halaya filling and this like sweet crumble on the top. Super good. My daughter calls it her purple bread lol. Very affordable too if I were closer I would be here all the time. Highly recommend! Be prepared though it’s CASH ONLY!
June 30 · Colleen Sibayan1 minute read:The first Valerio bakeshop we went to, was the one in the shopping center on the North East corner of Santa Monica Blvd & Vermont Avenue. At that time, I didn't know there were several VALERIO'S shops. This bakery is not big, but it produces a yummy variety of baked goods. Most customers (includes me) are hooked on the daily baked "PAN DI SAL". If you haven't had Pan Di Sal, you're in for a delicious treat. It comes out H🔥T from the oven at approximately 10:30, 1:30 & 4:30. Once the Pan Di Sal gets cold, I'm not interested. The staff is very friendly and parking should be no problem. Wear your mask. Thanks.
