Westhampton Pastry Shop Introduce
For generations of Virginians, particularly those in the Richmond area, Westhampton Pastry Shop is more than just a bakery—it is a cherished tradition. Established in 1952, this historic women-owned establishment has spent over seven decades perfecting its craft, using the same handed-down, time-tested recipes and baking methods that first made it a local favorite. Located on the corner of Patterson and Libbie, it stands as a cornerstone of Richmond's culinary history.
Westhampton Pastry Shop specializes in the comforting, classic, and elegant baked goods that evoke nostalgia. From scratch-made pies and morning Danish to beautifully decorated cakes and signature items, their focus is on high-quality, old-world baking. A key element of their enduring success is their commitment to traditional wedding cakes—utilizing dense, stable pound cake with decadent American Buttercream, a style that many modern bakeries have moved away from but which remains deeply loved by Virginia couples for its taste and reliability.
Customers praise the dedicated staff, who are "always helpful and are always willing to explain every item they have and what they are." This level of personal, friendly service, coupled with a commitment to making sure you are "happy with your items," is a core part of the experience. While the bakery has preserved tradition, it operates with a welcoming, modern ethos, proudly identifying as LGBTQ+ friendly, ensuring that everyone in the Richmond community feels comfortable visiting for a quick, delightful moment of indulgence. It truly is a local spot that patrons enjoy "driving out of my way to come here at least once or twice a week."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I went for the cinnamon raisin rolls, they could have been better. They lack the main ingredient, cinnamon. I use to stop here daily many years when I was a younger man. My mother and I love them. I'm willing to try again. A bit more cinnamon is needed. Still good quality! Times have changed and the cost of product's are up. Please don't skimp on flavor. It's what sales products.

June 12 · Matt EngAwesome bakery with great treats! They did our wedding cake back in 2002 and it was absolutely perfect. We’ve been fans ever since — everything they make is always fresh and delicious. Definitely one of our favorite local spots!
June 23 · Patti HughesWe have purchased decorated petit fours and decorated cookies for several years for Easter and Xmas parties. This year we were told they did not have staff to offer those particular items any longer. So we opted for Xmas cookies from New York which were dry, tasteless except for one specific cookie. My grandchildren even turn them down. I still have 2 dozen that no one wants. We spent almost $300 on an Xmas order plus some additional items we purchased on Xmas Eve during pickup of my order. The biscuit/rolls we purchased that afternoon were dry/stale tasting so people just opted to eat ham and tenderloin without a roll. They were also drastically different shapes ... some huge, some tiny. The $3 cupcakes were tiny and were hard/dry with little plastic Xmas themed rings put on top. I can't give those away either. The grandkids take one bite then just pull off the plastic rings to play with. We have decided to make strata and bread pudding with all the leftover biscuits/rolls. The Sally Lunn rolls were obviously fresh when picked up at 1 pm on Xmas Eve, but ended up being very damp and squished when removed from the bags for our 5 pm party. The bags were inflated like balloons and actually had tiny drops of water moisture inside them like they had been packed when hot. The very low temperature outside in my car could have been an issue too? However, the Sally Lunn rolls tasted excellent. The chocolate covered cupcakes were excellent. The radio bars were excellent. The chocolate wrapped items actually stay fresh for days and we are still enjoying them. The 5 meltaway coffee cakes we gave to each family for Xmas morning were excellent. I will definitely continue shopping there because I am hoping that fulfilling the volume of Xmas orders and problems with staffing (which were described to me in great detail when I first placed my Xmas order) are to blame for the stale dry items. I am usually always extremely satisfied with their pastries especially their chocolate covered donuts and cupcakes.
December 30 · Susan TerryStopped by this place on a whim looking for doughnuts and was not disappointed. Brought them to the office, no one had tried this place before, and we were all blown away by these. Great classic American doughnut with high quality glaze and chocolate. Will be making this place a staple for my doughnut cravings.
