Wicked Good Cupcakes Introduce
Wicked Good Cupcakes is a name that became a household phenomenon for many across the country, but for those of us in Massachusetts, it has a special local significance. The business was founded right here in the Bay State by a local mother-daughter duo, Tracey Noonan and Dani Vilagie. Their innovative idea of putting cupcakes in a jar, so they could be safely shipped nationwide, turned a simple hobby into a national brand. The company gained significant recognition after appearing on the hit show Shark Tank, securing an investment from Kevin O'Leary, a partnership that brought them a great deal of success and expanded their reach far beyond Massachusetts. While the company has since been acquired by Hickory Farms, its roots and core identity remain tied to its New England origins. The cupcakes in a jar are designed to stay fresh for an extended period, making them a popular choice for gifts, parties, and a personal treat. The concept is simple yet brilliant: a layered dessert featuring moist cake and delicious buttercream frosting, all in a convenient, portable, and shippable jar. This unique approach to selling baked goods is what made the company a sensation and continues to be a defining feature of the brand. For locals, Wicked Good Cupcakes represents a great Massachusetts success story, a reminder of the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in the region.
The operational base for Wicked Good Cupcakes is located in Hanover, Massachusetts, at 342A Circuit Street, Hanover, MA 02339, USA. It is crucial for customers to understand the business model of this company. This location functions primarily as a corporate office and production facility, not a retail storefront. This means that, unlike a traditional bakery where you can walk in and browse the day's selections, Wicked Good Cupcakes operates on a different model. The company's primary focus is on online sales and nationwide shipping. While customers can sometimes arrange to pick up pre-ordered items, this is not a walk-in, everyday bakery experience. The business has a strong online presence and partners with national retailers to get its products to customers. Its origin in a local kitchen and its subsequent growth into a large-scale operation is a key part of its story, but it’s important for local users to know that this isn't a traditional neighborhood bakery. All orders are typically placed online or by phone, with the product being delivered or, in some cases, picked up from the designated facility. For Hanover residents, this means they have a unique opportunity to connect with a nationally recognized brand right in their backyard, though the customer experience is quite different from what one might expect from a typical local bakery.
Wicked Good Cupcakes offers a unique and specialized range of products and services, all centered around their signature cupcake in a jar concept. The offerings are designed for convenience and a long shelf life, making them ideal for shipping and gifts. Here is a look at what the company offers:
- Cupcakes in a Jar: This is the flagship product. The jars come in a variety of classic and seasonal flavors, such as Red Velvet, Chocolate Ganache, Salted Caramel, and Vanilla Sprinkle. The cupcakes are layered with cake, frosting, and sometimes fillings, and are designed to stay fresh for an extended period.
- Gourmet Brownies: In addition to cupcakes, the company also offers a line of gourmet brownies. These are also packaged for shipping, providing another option for those with a sweet tooth.
- Gift Sets and Bundles: Wicked Good Cupcakes specializes in gift-giving. They offer a variety of curated gift sets, including cupcake and wine pairings, gift boxes, and monthly subscription services. These are perfect for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions.
- Customized Corporate Gifts: The company provides options for customized corporate gifts, allowing businesses to send personalized sweets to clients or employees. They can add custom top labels to the jars for a special touch.
- Nationwide Shipping: A key service is their nationwide shipping. This allows people to send a taste of New England to friends and family across the country, a major part of their original business model and ongoing success.
Wicked Good Cupcakes has several unique features that distinguish it from other bakeries, particularly for the local Massachusetts community. These highlights are what make it a notable part of the Hanover business landscape.
- Innovative Business Model: The concept of the "cupcake in a jar" is a major highlight. It's an innovative solution to the challenge of shipping fresh baked goods, and it's a testament to the creativity of its local founders. The unique packaging and presentation make it a fun and memorable gift.
- Local Success Story: For locals, Wicked Good Cupcakes is a point of pride. It's a business that started in a Massachusetts home and grew into a national brand, a journey that many followed on television. This local origin story is a significant feature for residents who appreciate homegrown success.
- Long Shelf Life: The products are designed to have a long shelf life, staying fresh for up to two weeks in the refrigerator or up to six months in the freezer. This is a huge advantage for gift-giving and for customers who want to stock up on their favorite treats.
- Specialty and Gourmet Flavors: While the company's quality has been a topic of debate for some customers, the brand continues to offer a variety of decadent flavors. The focus on rich buttercream frosting and unique flavor combinations is a core part of its appeal.
- Wide Availability: Through its acquisition by Hickory Farms, the products are available to a much larger audience. For locals, this means that even if the physical location isn't a retail shop, the brand's products are widely accessible online and through various retail partners.

Wicked Good Cupcakes is a unique business that is suitable for locals in a specific, non-traditional way. It's not the kind of bakery you visit for a quick morning coffee and a fresh pastry. Instead, it serves the community as a source for specialized, shippable baked goods, perfect for sending to friends and family out of state or for ordering in bulk for a special event. For the Hanover community, it represents a remarkable local success story, a brand that put their town on the map for many people. The fact that the company still maintains a significant presence in the area, even after being acquired, is a point of local pride. While some customers have raised concerns about product quality and customer service, the company's core appeal—the innovative "cupcake in a jar" concept—continues to be a major draw. For a Hanover resident looking for a unique, delicious, and convenient gift that has a great local backstory, Wicked Good Cupcakes remains a go-to choice. It's an example of how a small, local idea can grow into something much bigger, and for that reason, it holds a special place in the hearts of many people in Massachusetts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I wish I could write a positive review, but unfortunately I do not think these cupcakes are worth the price. You pay an exorbitant amount of money plus shipping for sub-par cupcakes that are dry and crumbly and have a very artificial taste. The first time I had these cupcakes (red velvet), they were FANTASTIC and delicious. They should have never sold their company to Hickory Farms; it’s easy to see why the quality of their product has fallen so drastically.Great marketing, but I won’t buy from WGC unless they make some changes. - I wish I could give them zero stars.I placed an order for a friends birthday but never received a confirmation email. I checked my account and it was charged, so I was hoping the order would be delivered. The order never came. I tried to contact them but with zero success. They not only ruined someone’s birthday, they then made me jump through so many hoops to try to get my money back. Ultimately I am going through my CC to get my money back and hopefully that’s faster and more helpful than this company has been. January 18 · D M
- Meh. This is my second and last time giving Wicked Good Cupcakes a try. The first time I ordered I thought some of the flavors (like Caramel Apple Streusel) were fantastic! Others were meh, and tasted a bit off (Vanilla Sprinkle tasted less like vanilla and more like cream cheese). A few months after my first order I decided to order again, but this time I added some brownies to my cupcake order. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I spent $100 with shipping on a 4 pack of cupcakes, and a variety 12 pack of brownies. The cupcakes came on time, but the brownies were more than a week late! When they finally arrived, I was shocked to find how TINY they are. By tiny, I mean bite-sized. I had NO idea they were that small. And they were $35! They aren't even that good, and I didn't get to pick my flavors. Never again! Waste of $100! November 27 · Persephone McGowan
- Received 4 as a gift. I tried the Smores. It was disgusting. Tasted of nothing but preservatives. I gagged through 2-3 bites and threw the rest away. I’m not even trying the other 3 flavors. Yuck! January 07 · Nancy Thome
- Excitingly I sent a duo to myself as well as another for a gift. Made a cup of tea and opened my (extra small) Cupcake in a Jar (the packaging was nice) and felt nothing but disappointed. Dry. Crummy. Extra heavy and strangely sweet. Can't even eat it... and after reading the mile long unhealthy ingredients on the label I can see why. Save your money, health and make your own. These are box mixes. Awful. Don't know how they stay in business. Shame on Kevin O'Leary! March 14 · Federal Hill Rentals
