## What Is Worth Choosing
For anyone in the California region looking for a taste of authentic Hong Kong-style pastries, Yummy Bakery & Cafe presents compelling reasons to visit, even if it's not the most famous bakery in the neighborhood. It shines as a consistently solid, reliable choice for delicious and affordable baked goods.
The most celebrated reason to stop by is to try the bakery's signature Egg Tarts, especially when they are fresh and warm. While one customer noted the regular egg tart custard was less sweet than some may prefer, they acknowledged the crust was "super crispy and fragrant," calling it a "solid stable choice." The unique Egg White Egg Tart is an innovative local twist that is definitely worth experiencing for its different texture and flavor profile.
However, the real standout product, highly recommended by satisfied customers, is the Pineapple Bun with real pineapple chunks. This version of the classic bun—known as Bolo Bao—is noted for its exceptional flavor balance, where the real fruit filling cuts the richness of the custard, creating a perfect bite. Customers insist this item is a must-buy, especially if it's served hot.
In addition to these fan favorites, the bakery's commitment to high value is clear. Whether you’re grabbing a $1.75 Pineapple Bun, a $2.00 Pork Bun, or any of the affordable cakes, the price point for freshly baked quality is hard to beat in the Bay Area. If you want to bypass the intense lines at other tourist-heavy spots, Yummy Bakery & Cafe offers an authentic, friendly, and truly delicious experience that San Francisco locals appreciate for its consistency and accessibility.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This bakery is known for their egg tarts, but I honestly don’t think they live up to the hype. While I get that Asian-style pastries are usually less sweet, these egg tarts were just too bland for my taste. The crust is nice and crispy, but the custard filling lacked richness and flavor. They offer both the traditional Hong Kong egg tart and a unique white version, which has a subtle coconut oil aroma—but still not enough to carry the flavor. On the plus side, the egg tarts are impressively large and served piping hot straight from the oven, which is always a treat. And for the price, they’re incredibly affordable. It’s a good value, but flavor-wise, I’ve definitely had better elsewhere.
June 29 · Dai DangLast week, I passed by Golden Gate Bakery and saw a huge line, so I decided to find another spot in Chinatown with equally delicious egg tarts! (After all, there are so many egg tart shops there 😆!) That’s when I discovered Yummy Bakery & Cafe that sells egg white egg tarts!Even when I arrived 30 minutes before closing, there was still a small line! They were still baking fresh bread and egg tarts—such a nice surprise! The interior clearly showed its history as an old-school bakery, which immediately let me know they are good 👀.I got the egg white egg tart, regular egg tart, and a pineapple bun with real pineapple chunks 🍍.Egg Tart:When eaten fresh and warm, the crust is super crispy and fragrant, and the custard is soft, silky, and delicious 😋. It’s above average, but not mind-blowing—more of a solid stable choice when you’re craving egg tarts!Egg White Egg Tart:The filling had a texture kind of like steamed milk pudding, and the crust was on the crispier side! It might not be for everyone, but it’s definitely worth trying at least once!Pineapple Bun:The crust was flaky, and the bread was soft and fluffy! The balance between the milk custard filling and real pineapple chunks was just right—when you bite into the pineapple pieces, the natural fruity aroma bursts out, making the custard feel lighter and not overwhelming 😲. Such a pleasant surprise!!If you ever catch these fresh out of the oven, you must get one—this was my favorite out of everything and totally worth buying again! It was my first time trying a pineapple bun with actual pineapple chunks inside 😆. And it was so crispy that I couldn’t even tear it apart for a photo—it just flattened instantly 😆. Definitely best enjoyed warm!Follow me at ig @taiwanese.foodie.sf for more foodie reviews 🤤
February 03 · Hilda LiuSo many fun and unique flavored buns! I came here just to try their egg tarts ($2.75 each) and they were ok. However, the egg white egg tarts (also $2.75 each) are delicious!! Haven't seen these before. On Saturdays it can get quite busy, but the line goes by fast. They accept Venmo payments too.
February 18 · Vanessa CheungThe real pineapple bun was the best pineapple bun we ever had. Long lines sometimes but they move fast.
August 24 · Ben ParkIt’s been over a year since my last visit to SF Chinatown but I had to make sure I get a box of Yummy’s hot, fluffy and creamy egg tarts! As usual, there was a line out the door and it took about 15 minutes to place my order. Of course, the egg tarts are the reason why most people are here.On a side note, I don’t understand the people that stood in line but didn’t get an egg tat while you see everyone else leaving with a dozen of them in a bright purple box.My order did take another 10-15 minutes to be filled but I didn’t mind at all since I saw someone from the kitchen deliver a pair of trays filled with hot, steaming egg tarts to be packaged. My box was filled with six regular egg tarts and six egg white egg tarts. Both were a 10 out of 10 with the egg white tarts being softer and creamier than the regular egg tarts.
