Apicella's Bakery Inc Introduce
For over a century, Apicella's Bakery Inc has been a true cornerstone of New Haven's culinary landscape, earning a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest bakeries in Connecticut. Founded in 1920 by Italian immigrant Geremia Apicella, who first started baking bread in New Haven in 1914, this family-owned and operated establishment has continued to serve generations of locals with exceptional baked goods. It's not just a place to buy bread or pastries; it's a piece of New Haven history, known for its unwavering commitment to quality, authenticity, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
As local residents, we understand the value of a business that has stood the test of time, consistently delivering products that evoke a sense of comfort and tradition. Apicella's Bakery embodies this, with customers raving about everything from their legendary garlic bread – often described as a revelation compared to supermarket alternatives – to their incredibly soft and buttery chocolate chip cookies. The aroma of sugar and anisette that greets you upon entering is a testament to the authentic Italian baking traditions that are meticulously upheld here.
What makes Apicella's truly special is its ability to blend classic Italian recipes with a diverse range of offerings that appeal to contemporary tastes. While they maintain the integrity of original pastries, cakes, and cookies, they have also innovated by adding a wide variety of cupcakes, donuts, and muffins. This blend ensures that whether you're looking for a traditional cannoli or a modern red velvet muffin, you'll find something to delight your palate. Their reputation for deliciousness, combined with their friendly and accommodating service, makes Apicella's Bakery a cherished institution in the heart of New Haven.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is the best bakery I have ever been to. I usually get the garlic bread from the supermarket and I decided to start stopping in and I am soooooooo glad I did! I bought my husband tiramisu and he’s in love! Today I got the chocolate chip cookies and I am so impressed:) they are so soft and buttery and just oh my gosh perfect!!!!! I also purchased some garlic bread today a Italian bread loaf and two beverages and I’m almost ready to drive back because I didn’t expect the cookies to be so good and of course I ate them all (3) :( I NEED MORE:)!!! Oh and they are sooooo friendly and accommodating I just love this place!
April 28 · Noelle MayesOf all the time I've spent in Fair Haven, finally stopped at this bakery. Very small inside but doesn't really matter. Delicious pepperoni bread and red velvet muffins! They also sell pizza dough which I plan on buying soon!
April 28 · Desiree PinaThe bread here is amazing! Although I live 20 minutes away to travel here and the last three times I came all before work at 2 PM and 1 PM and every time I’ve came in the same response has been we are all out of sub rolls. I understand they are a reputable business but to me it’s a little ridiculous that each time I’ve traveled 20 minutes for them to be out of sub rolls three times in a row hours before closing. I’ve also asked the Lady upfront if I’m coming at a bad time because they are always out of rolls and she said no it was just a one time thing usually we have them at this time. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this has happened to me three times in a row now coming to a bakery being out of sub rolls Hours before close is a little ridiculous
January 28 · michael mastoThis is my uncles bakery. I went down this morning and got a broccoli 🥦 bread right out of the oven. I just love his stuffed breads. It's easter so order all you easter stuff here. My other favorite of his is the restaurant loaf italian bread.
April 16 · William BrunoApicellla’s bakery had been a favorite in our family for over 15 years. Everything they have is amazing, the Italian bread, rolls, stuffed breads, pastries, cookies, and more. Always fresh, amazing service, and a lovely family owned bakery. You will not be disappointed if you take a trip and grab a few items. Guaranteed to return.
