Bakeshop Introduce
For Oregon residents seeking a truly artisanal and thoughtfully crafted bakery experience, Bakeshop on NE Sandy Boulevard in Portland stands as a celebrated destination. Far more than a simple pastry shop, Bakeshop has garnered national attention and is recognized for its sophisticated approach to baking, championed by owner Kim Boyce, a James Beard Award-winning author and former pastry chef at renowned Los Angeles establishments.
Bakeshop distinguishes itself by focusing on whole-grain flours—such as spelt, rye, and amaranth—that infuse their pastries with unique texture, depth, and flavor, without sacrificing the indulgent, buttery quality expected from European-style viennoiseries. Customer reviews consistently highlight the perfection of their laminated dough, noting that "All of the flaky pastries are perfectly crispy and buttery." This is a place where quality ingredients, often locally sourced (including figs "straight from her yard" as one excited customer noted), meet expert technique.
The business proudly identifies as women-owned and focuses on a quick, functional service model, perfect for a high-quality "swing by and pick up" experience. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’m so mad that I didn’t try this bakery sooner than last year. All of the flaky pastries are perfectly crispy and buttery, including the strawberry + fig Parisian for which one of the employees brought the figs straight from her yard (I mean come on!!🥹). Needless to say it was sublime. There is such a wide selection of both sweet and savory pastries, I wish I had 3 stomachs to try them all.
September 11 · Snacking in SaudiSmells incredible, friendly staff, cute but functional space. It's the type of place you swing by and pick up, not a place to linger. The pastries, especially the savory ones, and insanely good. Definitely worth a stop for the cheese straws alone.
August 16 · alyson rodgersAll the workers here were very friendly and helpful but the food was meh. The wonder bun must’ve been days old because it was extremely hard and chewy even though I came in only an hour after opening. The quiche was decent but once again the crust was so hard I couldn’t even finish it. I’ve been to a lot of bakeries in Portland and this just didn’t satisfy, I expected better quality for the price.. probably won’t be back here again :(
August 15 · Brayden RThe only reason I was lucky enough to find this place which is a tiny spot on Sandy was because my regular baker is closed for a remodel. Let me tell ya, this place has such delicious chocolate banana muffins they melt in your mouth! Also, the goat cheese and veg quiche is creamy and flavorful. Yummy croissants too. The gal at the counter was so sweet to me two days in a row when I was eager to try new things! My new fave bakery for sure.
May 17 · TaunaAs a savory pastry fan, I’m delighted by this shop. They have extremely tasty pastries. I also love their pain au chocolat. My favorite by far is their quiche. It’s the best I’ve ever had and I have tried everywhere and all over the US.
