Hello, New Yorkers! In our vibrant and diverse city, discovering a local spot that caters to a variety of cravings, from a quick coffee and pastry to a comforting hot meal, is always a win. Bon Appetite Bakery, located on 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, presents itself as just such a place. This neighborhood bakery offers a compelling blend of traditional Chinese pastries and a hot food bar, aiming to provide a convenient and satisfying experience for its patrons. While every establishment in a bustling city like ours might encounter varied feedback, Bon Appetite Bakery holds a unique position by offering a distinct selection that sets it apart from other local bakeries, particularly those found on 8th Avenue. It’s a place that invites exploration for those seeking ample seating, a larger hot bar selection, and an authentic taste of local Brooklyn fare.
Bon Appetite Bakery strives to be a go-to spot for those seeking both sweet and savory options in the Sunset Park area. Their emphasis on providing a hot bar, which includes comforting dishes like congee, alongside a selection of pastries, highlights their effort to cater to diverse meal preferences throughout the day. The bakery's commitment to offering ample seating is a significant draw, providing a comfortable space for customers to relax and enjoy their food, a valuable amenity in a city where space is often at a premium. While some customer experiences have varied, the underlying goal of Bon Appetite Bakery appears to be to serve its community with accessible and varied food options. It represents a different flavor of local bakery, distinguishing itself from its neighbors by offering a more extensive hot food selection and a more spacious dining environment, encouraging patrons to discover its unique offerings.
Bon Appetite Bakery is conveniently situated at 5013 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220, USA. This address places it squarely within the bustling and culturally rich Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. Seventh Avenue is a lively commercial corridor, brimming with local businesses, eateries, and shops, making it a prominent and easily accessible location. Its position ensures that it's visible and reachable for both local residents and those navigating through this dynamic part of the borough. When it comes to accessibility for New Yorkers, Bon Appetite Bakery is well-served by public transportation. Several MTA bus lines operate along 7th Avenue and in the surrounding areas, providing convenient connections from various parts of Brooklyn. For subway commuters, the N and D lines have stations within a reasonable walking distance of the bakery, making it a highly accessible destination for those who rely on the city's extensive subway system. If you're planning to drive, street parking can generally be found in the vicinity, though as is typical for popular Brooklyn neighborhoods, it's always wise to allocate some extra time to find a spot, especially during peak hours. The bakery’s easily identifiable storefront makes it a convenient and inviting stop, whether you're looking for a quick breakfast, a relaxed lunch with hot food, or simply a coffee and pastry break during your day.
Bon Appetite Bakery offers a range of services and food items that cater to various tastes and meal times. Based on available customer insights, here are some of their key offerings:
- Chinese Pastries: As a Chinese pastry shop, their core offering includes a variety of traditional baked goods. While specific types aren't detailed, the general positive mention of "pastries" suggests a selection of sweet and potentially savory buns, cakes, and other common Chinese bakery items.
- Extensive Hot Bar: A distinguishing feature is their "larger hot bar," which includes various prepared hot foods. This is noted as being more extensive than what might be found at other neighborhood bakeries.
- Congee: Specifically mentioned as an item on their hot bar, congee (a type of rice porridge) offers a comforting and traditional Asian breakfast or light meal option.
- Lunch Food Options: The bakery aims to provide lunch food, though customer experience with availability has varied. This indicates an intention to serve more substantial meals beyond just pastries.
- Coffee: They offer "large coffee," providing a classic beverage pairing for their pastries and a common staple for many New Yorkers.
- Ample Seating: Unlike some smaller bakeries, Bon Appetite Bakery provides "ample seating," offering a comfortable space for customers to sit down, enjoy their food, and relax. This is a significant amenity for those looking for a dine-in option.
- Affordable Pricing: One customer mentioned a specific order costing "$6.75," implying that their offerings are generally affordably priced, which is a key factor for many local patrons.
Bon Appetite Bakery possesses several notable features and highlights that distinguish it in the competitive Brooklyn bakery scene:
- Larger Hot Bar Selection: This is a significant differentiator. The availability of a more extensive hot bar, including items like congee, offers more comprehensive meal options compared to bakeries primarily focused on pastries.
- Ample Seating: Providing a comfortable, spacious environment for customers to sit and enjoy their food is a considerable advantage, especially in urban areas where seating can be limited in smaller eateries. This makes it suitable for longer stays or small group gatherings.
- Affordable Pricing: While specific prices are only hinted at with one example ($6.75 for an order), the general impression is that the bakery offers good value for money, which is always a strong selling point for local businesses in New York City.
- Traditional Chinese Pastries: As a "Chinese pastry shop," it likely offers authentic flavors and varieties that appeal to a diverse customer base, particularly those seeking traditional Asian baked goods.
- Neighborhood Presence: Being a "neighborhood bakery on 7th Ave" indicates its established presence and role within the local community, suggesting it's a known and frequented spot for residents.
- Potential for Improvement (Note): It's important to acknowledge the feedback regarding inconsistent availability of hot food and perceived service issues for non-Asian customers. While this is a critical point from one review, it highlights an area for the business to potentially refine its operations and customer service consistency.

Its strategic location on 7th Avenue, easily accessible via both bus and subway, makes it a convenient stop for daily needs. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Tried a different neighborhood bakery on 7th Ave, Bon Apetit. They had a larger hot bar (including congee) than my usual bakeries on 8th Av but I only ordered pastries & large coffee. I liked my 8th Av bakeries better. However this one had ample seating. $6.75 for order. April 15 · Eva (EachDayIsAGift)
- So this place has a name? Not a bad Chinese pastry shop - I am giving them a mediocre review as twice when I tried to order some of their delicious looking lunch food they kept me waiting and then came back with some implausible problem like "We have no more beef" ... this before lunch has even started! You'd think they'd know up front that they had no beef that day and it wouldn't take 5-10 minutes to tell me this important fact? I might think they don't serve hot food to non-Asians. I am sure they would never ever blatantly refuse service like this, but after this happens twice I might begin to think they don't want my custom. September 26 · Edward Green
- I bought your Cheese Croissant tonight to find there was no Cheese, and I mean no cheese at all. I was really looking forward to that and I've never had that problem with you before. Went back to store for Hersheys chocolate cupcake instead. 😞 October 18 · Lori Bodendorf
- I would give 0 stars if it was a choice. The place is normally a really good place. However, today I ordered two orders of dumpling which is 10 pieces. They only gave me 8 because they didn't want to cook a new batch. I knew that she forgot to give me the right amount but I thought I probably counted wrong so I didn't ask her. I went home and counted it. And sure enough, there are only 8.I used to like this place because of their quick service but they cutted corners. The woman who served me counted only 8 and she deliberately count in front of me and I can tell she had a guilty smile on her face. This experience ruined it for me. From now on, I'll make sure to check everything throughly before leaving the store.Additionally, I felt like they did this because I'm a child and not an adult which makes this experience that much more worse. - This bakery is a must. Their services are very delightful and welcoming. Not only everything is freshly made, their prices are very reasonable and cheap for such a satisfying portion. They also serve drinks that are extremely refreshing in both hot and cold. I wouldn't recommend any other bakery. August 07 · Lena Zheng
