Dana's Breads Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For Oregon residents, particularly those in the Portland metro area, the appreciation for artisanal, quality-focused food is paramount. Dana's Breads, located in the inviting neighborhood of Northwest Portland, stands out as a dedicated, family-owned establishment that has specialized in the craft of baking truly exceptional breads. This is not a typical neighborhood bakery; it focuses intensely on slow-fermented sourdoughs and culturally significant loaves, delivering a product where you can genuinely "taste the difference," as noted by devoted customers.
Dana's Breads is deeply rooted in the philosophy of quality ingredients and attention to detail. Their signature product is their line of sourdough bread, characterized by a low tangy flavor, a perfect texture, and a crisp, crackly crust—a hallmark of true artisanal baking. They proudly use no added preservatives and carefully select local and organic ingredients whenever possible. The basic sourdough loaves are made simply with flour, water, and salt, allowing the natural fermentation process to develop complex flavors and beneficial health properties. Beyond their impressive sourdough range, Dana's Breads also ventures into 'Breads From Around The World,' offering items that bring international flavors and traditional recipes to the local Oregon palate.
More than just a bakery, this location provides convenience with modern service options and is developing into a complete local stop for a treat, pairing their excellent baked goods with a selection of beverages including coffee, natural juices, and even local beer, wine, and ciders. This professional yet friendly atmosphere ensures that whether you're planning a quick visit for a fresh loaf or stocking up for the week, the experience is both rewarding and efficient. The dedication to a high-quality, handcrafted product ensures Dana’s Breads remains a cherished local gem for Portland food enthusiasts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had the opportunity to visit Dana‘s handcrafted breads yesterday. What a wonderful experience all of the sourdough bread looked and smell delicious but I was especially glad that I tried the walnut cranberries sourdough. Dana‘s, in addition to wonderful bread, serves coffee, beer, wine, and ciders. Can’t wait for my next loaf.
August 29 · Scott GeddisI love Dana's Breads. It's a family-owned business that puts a lot of care and attention to detail into every single loaf, and you can truly taste the difference. It's a real treat to have something made with such love and quality. The Duo Olive Sourdough is a must-try. It has a beautiful, crisp crust and a soft, flavorful inside that's just right. The olives provide a wonderful savory pop in every bite, making it fantastic on its own or as a great companion to cheese and spreads. The Challah Bread is also delicious, with a lovely, soft texture that works perfectly for anything from toast to French toast. The knot buns are a delight. They have a wonderful, soft texture and a lightly golden crust that makes them irresistible. They're perfect for serving alongside a meal, for small sandwiches, or even just for dipping in soup. The slider buns are a fantastic option for small sandwiches. They have a perfectly soft and fluffy texture, and they're wonderfully versatile for any filling you choose. The pocket pita is another great item. They are soft and tender, yet strong enough to hold up to your favorite fillings without falling apart. They are great for quick lunches or a fun meal for the whole family. The breadsticks are a wonderful treat as well. They have a lovely texture and are a joy to eat. The generous coating of sesame seeds adds a fantastic little crunch and a toasty, nutty flavor that makes them perfect for snacking on their own or serving with a bowl of soup. Finally, the granola is simply wonderful. It's a sweet and crunchy mix that's packed with flavor, making it a perfect topping for yogurt or a delicious snack on its own.
August 14 · Romy S.Wow, just visited Dana’s today on their first day of soft opening and their bread is amazing. I grabbed the Challah and Slider Buns and these are simply some of the best I’ve had. I also got a plain latte which was very creamy and a chocolate croissant (I don’t think the name of these is croissant but they look like them) and that was delicious as well. Almost toasty, crunchy outside but very soft inside. I’ll definitely be visiting again.
August 28 · Edgar SotoI've been searching for such quality breads for YEARS! This morning, Dana made our day with the first delivery of PURE DELICIOUSNESS... In just 7 minutes at 400F, you will get the most crispy from outside and the lightest/fluffiest/most airy buns you have ever tasted. We should have doubled the order because even the crumbs will not make it to Sunday (it's Friday evening :). Looking forward to exploring other selections and repeating the current ones! THANK YOU!!!An update:It's been only 2 weeks since we first discovered Dana's gems, but they have already made a BIG difference in our lives. My European mother is a different person now, having regained her appetite for food and, with it, for life... And we owe this to Dana and her incredible passion for baking. Tonight, our home is again filled with the heavenly, comforting smell of Dana’s freshly baked breads. Our hearts and souls are smiling... Thank you again for all you do for our community, Dana…
August 28 · AnnaDana’s challah bread is soft, golden, and irresistibly inviting. Its rich, slightly sweet flavor makes it perfect on its own or as the ideal complement to a meal. It’s got that comfort and satisfaction that keeps you coming back for more.
