Dog Tag Bakery Introduce
Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown is a true District of Columbia gem, offering Washingtonians a unique blend of exceptional baked goods and an inspiring social mission. More than just a charming neighborhood cafe, Dog Tag Bakery, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is, in essence, a living, breathing business school and social enterprise dedicated to empowering a community that has given so much: transitioning veterans with service-connected disabilities, military spouses, and caregivers. When you stop in for your morning coffee or a midday sandwich, you are directly supporting a transformational five-month entrepreneurial fellowship program that equips these individuals with the tools, confidence, and community needed to find renewed purpose in the civilian world. This is a place where every purchase is a catalyst for change, making it a must-visit for anyone in the DC area looking for quality, community, and purpose.
The bakery itself serves as the hands-on laboratory for the Dog Tag Fellowship Program. Fellows gain real-life experience in all facets of small business management, from baking and sales to human resources and finance. This practical training is combined with a tailored curriculum that culminates in a Certificate of Business Administration from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies. The holistic program focuses on developing the 'whole person,' addressing the military-to-civilian cultural shift and integrating wellness practices like mindfulness and yoga alongside business education. For local users, knowing that their delicious treats are contributing to this powerful mission adds an unparalleled layer of satisfaction to their dining experience. The organization proudly identifies as both veteran-owned and women-owned, further solidifying its roots in the community and its commitment to diverse leadership.
Dog Tag Bakery is a welcoming, inclusive space, proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, and designed for a comfortable experience for everyone in the community. The atmosphere is quiet, clean, and perfect for a relaxing break, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to enjoy their free Wi-Fi. This combination of a high-impact mission and high-quality product is what makes Dog Tag Bakery one of the most highly recommended destinations in the Georgetown area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1One of those hidden gems in Georgetown. Great place to sit and relax with a drink and a snack. Clean, quiet and plenty of seating. Great food too. The spicy hot chocolate cookie is spicy but not overly so..just enough to add a little bit of heat. Their brownies are rich and delicious (and they're already cut in half so you can share with a friend). Friendly staff too.
February 23 · Laura InglisCute little bakery, right off of Wisconsin Avenue. Very good selection of baked goods, sandwiches, and beverages. Honey rosemary biscuit is to die for! I have visited this bakery about 10 times, and they are always quick and friendly. Extra bonus is supporting our veterans and military families through their business. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
July 18 · Annie ConrightDog Tag Bakery is a cute bakery and cafe in the heart of Georgetown. They serve baked goods and sandwiches, along with good coffee. The bakery is owned and run by veterans with all proceeds going to support vets. It can be found right between Water Street and the Tow Path. Street parking is available and there’s also Georgetown Parking a block away.
May 04 · Ursula O'ConnorAt little pricey, but standard for Georgetown and it’s nice to know that you’re helping a good cause! It has a nice environment, lots of space to sit, delicious pastries and great customer service! Overall, really impressed and will definitely be back!
September 21 · Lauren WoltersVery cool spot in Georgetown with a great mission. Plenty of room to sit a ton of different treats to eat. I only had a black coffee which was lovely but I’m not going lie the baked goods looked out of this world
