What is Worth Choosing
For California residents seeking an authentic, affordable, and rich culinary experience in San Francisco, choosing Dragon City Bakery & Cafe is worth the visit—but with a strategic approach. The key to a stellar experience lies in focusing on the bakery’s documented strengths.
The most highly recommended choice is to visit early in the day to secure the freshest, warmest versions of their signature items: the Egg Tarts and the BBQ Pork Buns/Turnovers. These items are consistently praised as hidden gems and among the best in the region. Their affordability means you can easily stock up on these must-try items.
While the broad menu offers many temptations, patrons should take the advice of seasoned customers: when purchasing pre-made items like slice cakes or other pastries later in the day, it is prudent to ask the employees about their freshness, as quality can reportedly be inconsistent beyond the core specialties. Furthermore, it is wise to be prepared for the possibility of strict payment policies regarding small change by having appropriate cash denominations or using one of the accepted digital payment methods (Credit cards, Debit cards, NFC mobile payments) for a smooth, no-fuss transaction.
In conclusion, Dragon City Bakery & Cafe is an essential stop for high-quality, authentic Chinese baked goods at unbeatable prices. By focusing on the fresh, signature items and visiting earlier in the day, any Californian can enjoy the reason why this Mission District spot has maintained its loyal following for decades.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1You definitely need to know what order here:Egg tarts and BBQ pork buns are made fresh in the morning and honestly quite the hidden gem here. I'm an egg tart connoisseur, and for a hole in the wall in the Mission, it actually is one of the better egg tarts in SF, in fact, the peninsula. (Try to buy them earlier in the day though). Many of the other items are a gamble though; many of the cakes don't seem fresh. It's probably best to ask the employees when each thing was baked.
April 14 · Jesse ChangWorker wouldn't accept 20 pennies as method of payment for bag.. my total was 21 dollars with some change and I gave her 22 dollars but wanted 20 cents for bag all I had on me was nothing but pennies but refused to accept. She said she can't because they don't accept pennies I never heard of that before. I would've understand if was giving her 22 dollars in all pennies but that wasn't the case!!
June 17 · Liz SkyThe Best Chinese Cake I've had in such a long time! I grew up in Chinatown, Los Angeles, and I grew up eating Chinese cakes all my life!Dragon City Bakery Cake was the best ever, custom made the way I wanted! Half banana and half strawberry filling, topped with fresh fruit and outside layered with fresh almonds! Half the price of other more expensive bakeries! My partner and I, literally, gorged the entire 8 inches cake in two days! Yes, it was that scrumptious!Strongly recommend this Bakery to those who appreciate excellent cakes!
July 07 · Abel ChristEdit Review #2: ok I decided to give this place another try because the first time I bought cake here it had mold and maybe that was a rare one-off. Bought a mocha cake and SURPRISE, ITS MOLDY. DONT GO HERE FOR CAKE UNLESS YOU LIKE MOLDY CAKE. Pic included.Review 1:Bought a pineapple bread bun which was great for how much it cost. I also bought a mango cake same day which I did not notice had mold until I got home...I suppose the stuff there tastes great if you manage to get it fresh
February 05 · Max Allan FloresI live in Hayward and anytime I'm in the city, I must stop by this bakery for their bread rolls. During the Holidays we make extra stops. We can't have a holiday meal without the bread rolls.I have lived in Hayward for over 10 years and I have yet to find a bakery that makes their bread rolls like they do. They are perfect. I do admit the place needs work, it's not as clean as I would like,, but I never stay and eat. I only buy the bread and go. The lady tending to the customer is not too friendly, but I have never had a problem with them. They are nice to me. Price of the bread does go up during the holidays, but I am ok with that. I love their bread nd they have never disappointed. I have been going here for over 20 years.
