Eltana Introduce
Introduction / Overview
When the craving for an authentic, perfectly crafted bagel hits in the Washington region, particularly in Seattle, look no further than Eltana Wood-Fired Bagel Cafe. Established in 2010, Eltana is a beloved local business that has carved out a unique space in the Emerald City’s culinary scene by offering a distinct style of bagel that many locals consider the best in town. This isn't your typical New York-style bagel shop; Eltana specializes in the Montreal-style bagel, a variety known for being smaller, denser, and subtly sweet, thanks to being boiled in honey water before being baked in a massive, custom-built, wood-fired oven.
Eltana’s philosophy, often captured in their motto, is to offer a bagel with "a hole and a soul." They commit to using high-quality ingredients, including Shepherds' Grain flour, and the time-honored tradition of hand-rolling each one. But Eltana is more than just a bagel shop; it's a genuine cafe experience. It’s a popular spot for breakfast and lunch, offering a full menu that expands into Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired cuisine, providing vibrant spreads, hearty sandwiches, and flavorful salads and soups like the all-day favorite, Shakshuka. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick, delicious bite or settling in with a latte to work or meet friends, Eltana provides a friendly, warm, and inviting atmosphere that embodies the best of Seattle's local charm. They are also widely recognized as an LGBTQ+ friendly establishment, fostering an inclusive environment for all community members.

Features / Highlights
Eltana is distinguished by several unique features that set it apart in the competitive Seattle food landscape, focusing on both the quality of their product and the customer experience.
- Authentic Wood-Fired Montreal-Style Bagels: This is the core of Eltana's identity. Their bagels are hand-rolled, boiled in honey water for a hint of sweetness, and then baked to a light char in a massive 10,000-pound wood-fired oven. This process creates a uniquely chewy, dense interior and a perfectly crisp, smoky exterior, often considered a significant textural and flavor difference from other popular bagel styles.
- Vibrant Mediterranean Menu Fusion: Beyond the classic bagels and lox, Eltana's menu features a strong Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influence. This is seen in unique spreads like Za'atar Scallion cream cheese and Hummus, and in their sandwich and soup selections, such as the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich and comforting Shakshuka (eggs poached in a savory tomato sauce).
- Variety of Bagels and House-Made Spreads: They offer a wide selection of bagel flavors, including Everything, Sesame, Salt, Cinnamon Raisin, and a Gluten Free Bagel option, as well as the occasionally available Rainbow Bagel and Za'atar Bagel (Fridays only). Their spreads are made in-house and come in diverse, creative flavors like Lox Spread, Spicy Garlic, Pom Berry, and Fig Compote, available in mini portions or 8oz tubs.
- Commitment to Quality Ingredients and Craft: The hand-rolling and wood-firing process is done onsite and is visible to customers, showcasing a commitment to the art of bagel-making. They use high-quality, regionally-sourced flour and offer options like Gluten Free bagels, ensuring more people can enjoy their products.
- Payment Versatility: For maximum convenience, Eltana accepts all major forms of payment, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and modern NFC mobile payments.

What Is Worth Choosing
If you're in Washington and looking for a truly unique and high-quality bagel experience, Eltana is a must-visit. The primary reason to choose Eltana is to experience the Montreal-style bagel—denser, chewier, and wood-fired—a departure from the ubiquitous New York style, giving you a fresh perspective on what a bagel can be.
One of the most worthwhile choices is the classic Bagel, Cream Cheese & Double Lox + Fixings; it's a customer favorite for a reason, especially paired with one of their unique house-made spreads like the highly-praised Lox Spread. For a more savory and substantial meal, the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich or a bowl of their flavorful Shakshuka offers a hearty taste of their Mediterranean influence that you won't find at a traditional deli. For a treat, don't miss trying a Gluten Free Bagel, which customers have noted is one of the better textural options available. Lastly, their catering options, particularly the Hero Box or Lox Platter, make Eltana an excellent choice for group gatherings, office breakfasts, or any event where you want to impress guests with unique, high-quality, local food. Eltana successfully combines the comfort of a classic bagel shop with the exciting, fresh flavors of the Mediterranean, all backed by a dedicated commitment to craft and the local Seattle community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I bought a bunch of bagels and brought them home, along with a tub of lox spread. Wowowow the lox spread was SO good! I also didn’t know what to expect from the rainbow bagel but it was lightly sweet, soft, and delicious. The other bagels were also pretty flavorful, especially the garlic/onion one. However, the bagels are kind of dense.Would recommend!
September 07 · Vivian NCute bagel shop in the area, they have quite a selection of bagels and the shop smells really good. You can build a bagel, and I chose lox with avocado and pickled onion. I like the flavors, the cream cheese was good, but the price was quite high for what you got to be honest.
August 20 · Khue NguyenThe new ground beef flat bread is delicious, and I'm a big fan of their chicken shawarma bagel. The inside is bright, spacious and overall very clean, but somewhat regularly there is a fly or two in the seating area. Not a big deal, but keeps it just short of 5 stars for me.
May 13 · Raymond JiWow—I am blown away by how good these bagels taste! 🥯 I ordered mine lox-style with the everything bagel: it did not disappoint in the slightest. Although it’s a bit pricey, I can taste the quality in their craft & loved seeing the masters at work! (You can see them hand-rolling the bagels through the window.) 😉 Don’t miss out on this amazing bagel shop!
September 07 · MimiThe bagels are fresh. There are a lot of flavors. They even have rainbow bagels. Exciting and fun! The cream cheeses are so good. Sweet and savory. They have special ones too. I think they rotate. Fun fact, you can get a bagel with a different flavor of cream cheese on each side. I recently had an artichoke flat bread. Chef's kiss! The prices are a little steep so it's not something I could do every day, but for an occasional treat it's a good choice.
