Grandpa Chen Char Siu Bao Introduce
For many New Yorkers, the search for authentic, high-quality Chinese baked goods often leads to a trip into Manhattan's bustling Chinatown. But for residents of Queens and Long Island, that journey just got a whole lot shorter. Grandpa Chen Char Siu Bao, a true gem in the heart of Little Neck, is bringing the beloved flavors of traditional Chinese bakeries right to their doorstep. This bakery is not just another food spot; it is a destination for those who appreciate the delicate art of crafting perfect buns, pastries, and more. With a reputation for freshness and incredible flavor, this is a place that has quickly captured the hearts (and stomachs) of the local community.
Grandpa Chen Char Siu Bao specializes in a variety of traditional Chinese baked goods, with a particular focus on its namesake: char siu bao. These are not your average buns; they are a culinary experience. One customer's review perfectly encapsulates this sentiment, exclaiming, "Omg. When I tell you that you need to try this place out you need to. The buns are fresh out of the oven and it’s so good." This emphasis on freshness is a recurring theme in the feedback, with another customer highlighting that everything is "super fresh!!" and that the buns come out "fresh out of the oven." This dedication to baking in small, frequent batches ensures that every customer gets to enjoy their treats at their absolute best.
The quality of the food at Grandpa Chen is often compared favorably to some of the most famous bakeries in New York City. One reviewer wrote, "I thought you could only get this quality and flavor from Chinatown but it’s finally available out in Queens/LI." This speaks volumes about the bakery's authenticity and skill. The char siu filling is praised for being a "very good amount," and the taste is described as excellent. Beyond the signature char siu bao, the menu is filled with other delightful surprises. The "pinnacle buns" and chasiu are noted for being "close if not better than meh lai wah," with a "more crunchier crust." The "mantou" is described as "so soft and fragrant with a touch of sweetness," and the egg tarts are said to be "on par with the more fancy places with the taipan price tag." This wide-ranging praise shows that the bakery excels across its entire menu, not just its main attraction.
Another key feature highlighted by customers is the affordability and fair pricing. In a city where good food can often come with a high price tag, Grandpa Chen offers exceptional quality at a reasonable cost. One review stated, "The price is fair and not expensive at all compare to other places," while another noted that "Pricing is super good on everything." This combination of high quality and great value makes Grandpa Chen a truly accessible and beloved spot for locals. The attention to detail, from the generous fillings to the request-based sugar level in their milk tea, demonstrates a business that genuinely cares about its customers' satisfaction.
Grandpa Chen Char Siu Bao is conveniently located at 253-07 Northern Blvd, Little Neck, NY 11362, USA. June 06 · Frankie PExcellent excellent excellent! I thought you could only get this quality and flavor from Chinatown but it’s finally available out in Queens/LI.The pinnacle buns and chasiu is close if not better than meh lai wah. More crunchier crust. Amazing. Their mantou is so soft and fragrant with a touch of sweetness. AMAZING. The milk tea is super flavorful and not too sweet (requested less sugar and actually listened) egg tarts were on par with the more fancy places with the taipan price tag. Everything is super fresh!! Pricing is super good on everything, a must try. Will be frequenting this spot.
May 05 · James ChenAbsolutely delicious pork buns. The most delicious I've had in some time. Definitely a must do for anyone who loves pork buns. The staff is wonderfully friendly and kind as well.
June 22 · Ash ThimmaiahThis is a review for the one that just opened up on Kissena Blvd since I can't seem to write one for it since Google maps have a review for this location yet.Went to the new bakery by me on Kissena Blvd and Horace Harding near the Dunkin Donuts and right in front of the Q25/34 bus stop where Regina Pizzeria used to be, Grandpa Chen Char Sui Bao. It's the same name bakery as the one in Little Neck on Northern Blvd . They open at 7 am I think they close at 6 pm.The buy one Char Sui Bao sale has been extended to Sunday 1/12/25. It only applies the the regular , pineapple topped char sui bun and I think it includes the regular pineapple bun too with nothing inside . They also sell steamed big buns, sausage buns, etc. plus, many bakery cookies , pineapple cakes etc .The bun itself is tasty, comes out warm . There is a decent amount of filling . The taste of the char sui inside the bun is not too sweet but a bit lacking in that authentic "char sui" flavor for me since I am used to that OG flavor growing up. The prices seem reasonable $2.95 for the pineapple char sui bao, $2.50 for the regular char sui bun and $1.95 for the hom su gok, fried item with meat inside. Many streamed buns in the refrigerated section for you to take home to microwave or steam $12 for a pack of four big buns, they have the Chinese sausage bun and others too. They have cookies and other bakery items like pineapple buns, walnut cookies etc. The steam buns is missing something for me too. But I can definitely say that the topping on the pineapple char sui bun is very crispy and light and maybe the best pineapple topping I have had In Queens. I think Grandpa Chen's bread is very tasty for the baked and steam buns and they do give a good amount of filling , but the fillings are lacking something in taste for me . I am still grateful that there is a business like this near me and hope they do well .
January 10 · Lily LeungMove aside Mei Lai Wah! The better char siu bao is in town! The filling is not too sweet and the crust is crispier. There is no line. Get this! You need it.
