For any customer, especially a first-timer in Oregon, two items perfectly capture the quality and spirit of Hold The Wheat: the Ham And Cheese Danish and a slice of the Lemon Spencer Cake.
The Ham And Cheese Danish ($9.00) is the perfect example of the bakery’s success in replicating a traditionally wheat-heavy pastry with superior gluten-free execution. For a sweet treat, the Lemon Spencer Cake ($4.75 per piece) is a must. Named after the Head Baker and Founder, this cake represents the height of their pastry artistry. It’s known for its incredibly moist crumb and bright, refreshing flavor, standing as a testament to the fact that gluten-free baking can be just as, if not more, delicious and texturally satisfying than traditional baking. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place was so cute, the food was delicious and it was spotlessly clean. It has a nice neon retro vibe with velvet seating and a wraparound booth. For pastries, there were a lot of sweet options and a good selection of savory (including some V!) in a warm case so it was fast. I got a ham and cheese danish, and the crust was so buttery and crumbly. I also got an oat milk latte which was tasty. It was all fast, so I could see this being a great pre-work weekday stop. Loved
May 26 · Shannon DennehyDefinitely a niche worth exploring. Early hours much like a cafe or bakery, gluten free ware, sweet treats, cakes, and fine baked goods. I’ve never had such a variety of sweet and tasty food that completely engulfed my pallet with goodness. The cost is worth it! The staff is friendly and I for one appreciate them being there for those of us with intolerances or allergies. Thanks guys!
August 10 · Kevin MeadorsIf you are even remotely gluten sensitive, you owe it to yourself to come here. Everything was fantastic. So much so, it made us question if it really was all gluten free. The vibe is cute and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. There was also a range of vegan options available.COME HERE!!!!
August 03 · Cayden HendrixLove coming in here!! Staff is great. Food is amazing. And just overall great concept for gluten free. My kid loves coming in and getting the mini cookies. Take and bake options as well!
August 01 · Ashley ReynoldsWhat an awesome neighborhood treasure! The staff is helpful and kind! The food for us non-wheat eaters is delicious and has this feel of a traditional bakery with the aesthetic flare of brilliant design! That design is in the food and the space itself.Get your dinaro’s in to buy a franchise cause this is a business that deserves to be replicated in cities all across the country (and the globe).
