Kay's Place Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For Texans attending a major event, conference, or trade show at the renowned Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center (KBHCC) in Downtown Dallas, finding a quick, accessible spot for a pick-me-up is essential. That is where Kay's Place comes in. Operating primarily as a vital on-site food and beverage option, Kay's Place is categorized as a bakery and functions as a convenient coffee and snack kiosk inside the Convention Center, providing services and basic provisions to attendees and staff within the bustling venue.
While the term 'bakery' might typically conjure images of a full-scale retail shop with custom cakes and fresh loaves, Kay's Place serves a specialized role within this state-run facility. Based on customer reports, it is the primary food and beverage service available within the Convention Center, making it a critical hub for attendees who need to grab a fast breakfast, a coffee boost, or a simple snack without leaving the premises. Their offerings are geared towards efficiency, focused on ready-to-consume items and quick service to accommodate busy event schedules.
A significant draw for this location is its partnership with a nationally recognized coffee brand, which ensures that Texans can find familiar and desired coffee beverages. Beyond the caffeine, the menu offers a selection of light bakery items and snacks, such as muffins, bagels (sometimes microwaved on-site), potato chips, and pre-packaged cookies. It is designed for those moments when a full meal is not feasible, and a 'Quick visit' is absolutely necessary. This focus on speed and essential offerings makes Kay's Place an invaluable resource for anyone spending a full day at a Convention Center event.
Location and Accessibility
Kay's Place is strategically located within the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, which is a prime downtown location easily identifiable to anyone familiar with the central Dallas area. Its exact location is at 650 S Griffin St, Dallas, TX 75202, USA. This central positioning in the 75202 zip code makes it a landmark business directly tied to the convention activity of the city.
Accessibility is a major feature of this establishment, reflecting its location within a large public venue designed to accommodate massive crowds. For Texans needing barrier-free access, Kay's Place offers comprehensive accessibility options, ensuring a smooth visit for everyone:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Provides easy entry and exit from the space.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Ensures a convenient parking experience for those with mobility challenges.
- Wheelchair Accessible Restroom: Crucial for comfort and convenience during a visit to the facility.
Due to its setting inside the Convention Center, the bakery benefits from the professional infrastructure of a major Texas venue. For drivers, the location is accessible via downtown Dallas highways, though parking availability and rates will be tied to the Convention Center's own operations. For those using Dallas’s public transit, the KBHCC is served by nearby DART rail and bus routes, providing excellent connectivity.
Services Offered
Kay's Place specializes in fast, focused service options that cater specifically to the needs of convention attendees and venue staff. The service model is designed for high turnover and convenience.
- Takeout Service: The primary mode of service. All items are prepared for immediate consumption and packaged to be taken away, allowing visitors to quickly return to their scheduled events or activities.
- Coffee Service: Offering a full range of Starbucks beverages, including drip coffee, espresso drinks (like the Venti Sweet Cream Cold Brew mentioned in one review), and hot teas. This service caters to the high demand for specialty coffee.
- Snack Provision: Providing immediate access to light food items. The offerings include traditional bakery items such as muffins and bagels, along with quick grab-and-go options like potato chips and packaged cookies.
- Quick Visit Optimization: The entire operation is structured for speed, indicated by the 'Quick visit' planning note, making it the ideal choice for those with minimal time between conference sessions or meetings.

Contact Information
As a business located within a large public facility, direct communication is often channeled through the Convention Center or its primary management service, Centerplate. However, the physical address identifies the location precisely:
Address: 650 S Griffin St, Dallas, TX 75202, USA
For general inquiries related to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, the main phone number for the KBHCC is (214) 939-2700, which can often lead to information regarding on-site services like Kay's Place. Since Kay's Place is primarily a kiosk-style operation for quick transactions, its dedicated phone line is not publicly provided, and physical access is limited to when the Convention Center is open for events.
What is Worth Choosing
For Texans attending an event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, choosing Kay's Place is primarily about choosing unparalleled convenience and immediate access.
First, its unique location makes it the ultimate time-saver. When you are rushing between back-to-back sessions or simply don't have time to leave the building, Kay's Place provides the fastest possible option for a meal or drink. The 'Quick visit' designation is a promise that your break will be spent revitalizing, not waiting in a long queue elsewhere.
Second, the power of a brand name is a major draw. Knowing you can grab a familiar, high-quality cup of Starbucks coffee right on-site removes the guesswork from your day. Whether you prefer a strong espresso drink or a classic drip coffee, the service offers the necessary caffeine boost to keep up with a demanding conference schedule.
Third, the excellent accessibility features are commendable. The commitment to a wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom ensures that all visitors, regardless of mobility, have a comfortable and dignified experience when utilizing this on-site resource. Coupled with essential amenities like Wi-Fi and clean restrooms, Kay's Place is designed to maximize comfort and productivity during your time at the Convention Center.
It is important for customers to set their expectations correctly: Kay's Place is a functional kiosk, not a gourmet, scratch-made bakery. The menu consists of grab-and-go fare like microwaved bagels, muffins, and packaged snacks. While customer reviews mention occasional issues with service speed or product quality (such as a stale bagel or a bitter coffee), its value lies in being a necessary, available, and highly convenient option when no other food service is operating within the building. For the person who needs a fast coffee and a snack without missing the next breakout session, Kay's Place is the indispensable on-site solution in Downtown Dallas.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The only food/beverage service inside the Convention Center at this time. Coffee and snack kiosk. Serves Starbucks. Slow. Muffins, bagels, potato chips, packaged cookies. Microwaved bagel a little stale but better than nothing.
September 24 · Tracy Mattingly KirkI ordered a venti sweet creamColdBrew which tasted bitter. I asked for a tea instead which was a difference in price of about 3.75. When I asked for a refund the manager told me “it’s on you. We took the time to make your coffee. You dont get a refund. It’s a state building and we don’t have to give you one. “I have never heard of such a thing and Starbucks should know of the kind of people who are selling their product because that is not Starbucks policy.
November 10 · Denise JankowskiTime 0720 May 4th 2023 at the VEX robotics world championship event still not open said they open at 0700 how can any business run like this? Absolutely no leadership how does a coffee shop not open up at least by 0600? The amount of people who grew frustrated and got out of line was egregious as you hear the hyenas laughing hysterically In the back all the foreigners in line are confirming the stereotype for lazy Americans. What an Embarrassment of an establishment.
May 04 · SamuelComing from plano for a continuing education class in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center. We got up at 5 am to take the train so we would arrive 45 minutes before our 8 am class. We were about 11th in line. At least 4 employees behind the counter working but finally after waiting 45 minutes someone asked and they informed us they open at 8:30. WHY would you not post that or tell anyone. Needless to say every year we never get coffee before class and even after planning ahead still NO COFFEE!! watched the lady putting food out in the displays with no mask. The rest of them were but not the one lady handling the food no mask. . Pretty frustrating. Why would you open after classes start and not inform anyone.
August 20 · Karen AndersonThis location does not care about its customers at all. Denied service at 458pm to just purchase two water bottles when they close at 5 pm. I recommend going somewhere else.
