Kilani Bakery Introduce
Aloha, O'ahu residents and local food enthusiasts! If you’ve spent any time driving through Central O'ahu, particularly the charming town of Wahiawā, you’ve likely heard the buzz—or, more accurately, tasted the deliciousness—of Kilani Bakery. This isn't just another stop for morning coffee; it's a long-standing, family-owned institution that has been serving up some of the island's most beloved baked goods for generations. A true local staple, Kilani Bakery is a haven of homemade goodness, blending a deep respect for baking traditions with an innovative spirit to keep its offerings fresh and exciting.
Established decades ago, the bakery’s roots run deep in the local business landscape. The founders, Beatrice and Walter Takara, opened the doors more than 40 years ago, creating a legacy that continues with the involvement of the next generation—their two sons. The family connection to baking excellence goes back even further, as Beatrice Takara is the daughter of Chosei Zukeran, the founder of the famous 9th Avenue Bakery. This lineage speaks to the high standards and dedication that have cemented Kilani Bakery’s place in the hearts and on the tables of local families. It’s a classic example of a husband-wife partnership, with one spouse—Walter—initially focused on the baking, having trained with Beatrice's father, and the other—Beatrice—running the shop. This deep commitment to the craft and the community is what gives the bakery its timeless feel and keeps loyal customers coming back for their favorite treats, often since childhood.
For many, a stop at Kilani Bakery is a cherished routine, a necessary indulgence before a day out, or a perfect way to pick up a classic dessert for a family gathering. While some may notice little changes over the years, the majority of the local community views the bakery's consistent quality as a testament to its enduring nature. It’s a place where the feeling of nostalgia is baked right into every item, from the perfectly textured brownies to the rich, creamy pies. Even for those just passing through Wahiawā on their way to the North Shore, Kilani Bakery represents a sweet detour that is absolutely worth the stop.
Location and Accessibility
Kilani Bakery is conveniently situated in the central O'ahu town of Wahiawā, making it an easy and popular stop for anyone traveling across the island. The physical address is 704 Kilani Ave, Wahiawa, HI 96786, United States. Its location is a classic neighborhood spot that embodies the local charm of the area.
For residents and visitors with accessibility needs, the bakery is committed to being welcoming to all members of the community. It features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that everyone can easily come in to choose their favorite baked goods. What Is Worth Choosing
For anyone new to Kilani Bakery, or even a long-time resident looking for a reminder of the best of the best, there are a few items that are consistently highlighted by the community as absolute must-have choices.
The undisputed champion of Kilani Bakery’s selection is the famous brownie. Locals rave about the perfectly chewy, intensely chocolately flavor and the signature light dusting of powdered sugar. These brownies have a hold on people, with some customers even braving the Wahiawā traffic just for a box. They are a fantastic, no-fail item to pick up for guests or simply to treat yourself.
Next on the list is the Custard Pie. Described as heavenly, this pie is one of the most celebrated desserts available. If you prefer a chilled, creamy dessert, the custard pie is an unbeatable choice.
Beyond these top two, the bakery excels in a variety of other Hawaiian favorites:
Malasadas: For those who love the classic Portuguese donut, Kilani’s version is highly praised, with some customers preferring them over other well-known spots on O'ahu.
Chantilly Cupcakes: The light, sweet, and nutty Chantilly frosting on a soft cupcake base is a local crowd-pleaser.
Brownie Bombs: A great choice for chocolate lovers, these are an enriched version of the famous brownie.
Okinawan Sweet Potato Turnovers: A delicious local twist that offers a taste of island culture.
Lemon Meringue Pie: While sometimes difficult to find due to ingredient cost fluctuations, the lemon meringue pie is an absolute classic that many long-time patrons dearly miss and would love to see offered more often, even if by special pre-order.
Whether you're picking up a quick snack, a classic butter roll for breakfast, or a decorated cake for a celebration, Kilani Bakery is a cherished piece of Wahiawā’s culinary history. It's a taste of O'ahu tradition, commitment, and genuine family love baked into every single treat. Stop by and experience a true local legacy for yourself—just remember to get there early for the best selection!

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Kilani Bakery is a local staple for my family. I've been coming here since I was a kid and not much has changed. Somewhat consider that a bad thing, but I consider that a good thing from the angle of timelessness. I stopped in today to pick up a few of their brownies to give to some out-of-town guests. I picked up an extra set for myself, which was quickly devoured lol. The one thing that I'll say is I dearly miss their lemon, meringue pie, which they rarely offer nowadays. I heard that it's because of the rising cost of the raw ingredients, which I totally understand. But I also wouldn't mind the option for being able to pre-order, with a set minimum, so we know that their costs are covered and that they don't have to worry about inventory/spoilage. If anyone from the team is reading this, feel free to reach out because I would definitely love to order dozens of your pies lol.
April 16 · Zakary KimNot sure if it’s because I haven’t eaten brownies in forever but the way these flipping things have a hold on me is criminal! I braved Wahiawa’s crazy traffic 2 days in a row to get brownies from this bakery. 😭🤣 I haven’t tried anything else but the people in front and behind me were ordering the brownie bombs and said they were so good! Maybe next time. Haha.
January 28 · K KStopped by for some of their infamous brownies…came out with these. It’s puff pastry filled with chocolate cream topped with their chantilly and powdered sugar. O…M…G! Light and flakey with a smooth chocolate filling and their savory chantilly. It was gone in a few bites. Not sure if this is a normal item or only on Sundays. Would pick these up for my next gathering so everyone can try these and support local.
June 02 · Shane ArakakiChantilly cupcakes are a must and their brownie sticks too!! Great local bakery... small hole in the wall type of place but great tasting pastries... my favorites were Chantilly cupcakes and guava cream cheese pastry stick!
February 28 · Helen HAbsolutely love this place! My favorite items are the malasadas and blueberry danishes. And I actually like their malasadas more than Leonard's!I also highly recommend their butter rolls. My family and I love them!
