Kindle's Donuts Introduce
Kindle's Donuts: A Los Angeles Landmark of Classic California Doughnut Culture
In a city celebrated for its iconic roadside architecture and deep-rooted doughnut history, Kindle's Donuts stands out as a true Los Angeles landmark. Located at the corner of Century and Normandie in the Westmont suburb, this independent doughnut shop is more than just a place to grab a quick sweet treat—it's a piece of Southern California heritage. Kindle's Donuts is a direct link to the golden age of "car-culture-induced optimism," as it was the very first location of the famous "Big Do-Nut Drive-In" chain, originally constructed in 1950. While the immense, programmatic architecture of the giant donut sign is an immediate draw and a popular photo opportunity, it is the dedication to fresh, classic doughnuts that has kept this local favorite thriving for decades.
California, and especially Los Angeles, has a legendary relationship with the humble doughnut, a story intertwined with the entrepreneurial spirit of the Cambodian-American community. These independent, often family-owned shops, symbolized by the ubiquitous pink box, are an integral part of the local culinary landscape. Kindle's Donuts upholds this tradition, offering the comforting classics that Angelenos crave, often served fresh and still warm. Whether you are a local heading to work or a visitor exploring the city’s unique architectural history, Kindle's Donuts provides a quintessential L.A. experience that is both quick and deeply satisfying.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I frequent this place often because of the hours, prices, and freshness of the donuts. They have a decent menu selection with the buttermilk glazed, maple bars, and apple fritters at the top of my favs list for this spot. The service isn't the best, but it is to be expected for the area, and donuts make it worth it. There is usually 1 person manning the walk-up counter as well as the drive-thru. Use the drive thru if possible, but the walk-up isn't that bad either. If you are ever in the area, stop in and give em a try. When it comes to fresh and sometimes warm donuts, Kindle's Donuts is where it's at.
July 03 · Shamarr EvansWe will call this the other big Donut. Kindles has been here as long as I can remember but this was my first time stopping to grab a quick sugar rush. The donut was good atmosphere not so much.
August 23 · Odest RileyI bought a glazed donut right I accidentally dropped it , I asked for another one she said that’s not her fault so she couldn’t replace it for free damn a 2$ dollar donut . Wow I heard they throw away the donuts at the end of the day.
September 09 · Chocolate BarbieThought it was Randy's, but Asian couple were baking even at night. They were fresh still warm. Oh soo soft and sweet . I recommend. Will be back! Sorry had one last donut when I remembered to take the picture. Too good to wait.
November 22 · Helen FresquezEven though they changed the name, the place is still amazing! The super Texas size donut whatever you call it LOL still tastes amazing! The donut holes are still delicious. That is mainly what I go for is the Big Texas and the donut holes. A definite must for anyone who loves a big donut 🍩. Imagine 4-5 glazed donuts put into one big circle 🤓
