MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II Introduce
For New Yorkers celebrating special moments, a custom cake is often the centerpiece of joy and anticipation. In the vibrant Bronx, a familiar establishment has recently undergone a significant transformation. What was once known as "Steven's Bakery" is now operating under new management as MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II, located on Jerome Avenue. This change has brought with it shifts in pricing, product details, and overall customer experience, which are important for locals to be aware of.
Bakeries play a crucial role in community life, providing everything from morning pastries to elaborate celebration cakes. When a beloved local spot changes hands, patrons often approach it with a mix of curiosity and hope that the quality and value they've come to expect will remain. MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II aims to continue serving the Bronx community, but recent feedback indicates a period of adjustment for both the new management and its loyal customer base.
One long-time customer, accustomed to getting their "yearly cake order" from the previous establishment, provides a detailed account of their experience with the "MC" management. While acknowledging that the cake itself remained "so good and moist," significant concerns were raised regarding pricing and specific design execution. The price for what is described as the "smallest size" cake (for a party of 4 people) "literally doubled since last yr" to $80. This substantial increase is a primary point of contention for customers, impacting the perceived value of the product.
Beyond pricing, the accuracy of custom cake details also appears to be an area of concern under the new management. The customer explicitly requested "gold flakes, macaroons and drip detail" using a reference photo. However, the received cake lacked gold flakes, and the gold color that was applied was "spray painted" and had a "foul bitter flavor," forcing the customer to "eat around the gold parts." Furthermore, the number of macaroons was reduced from five to three, and previously included "pearls and chocolate design" were omitted, despite extra charges for certain elements.
This feedback from a loyal customer highlights a critical juncture for MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II. While the underlying cake recipe might retain its quality, the changes in pricing strategy, coupled with a decline in attention to custom design details and ingredient quality (like the bitter gold spray paint), present challenges to maintaining customer satisfaction and loyalty. For New Yorkers, who are accustomed to diverse options and value for their money, these factors are significant considerations when choosing a local bakery for their special occasion needs.

## Location and Accessibility
MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II is located at 2426 Jerome Ave, Bronx, NY 10468, USA. Jerome Avenue is a major and historically significant thoroughfare in the Bronx, known for its mix of residential buildings, local businesses, and elevated subway lines. This central location ensures high visibility and accessibility for residents and visitors throughout the borough.
The bakery's position on Jerome Avenue provides excellent access via New York City's public transportation network. Jerome Avenue is directly served by the 4 train (Lexington Avenue Express), with multiple subway stations conveniently located along the avenue, including those in the vicinity of 2426 Jerome Ave. This offers direct and efficient connections to various parts of the Bronx, Manhattan, and other boroughs. Additionally, numerous MTA bus lines run along Jerome Avenue and intersecting streets, providing further accessibility for those relying on bus services.
For individuals who choose to drive, accessing Jerome Avenue is generally straightforward from different parts of the Bronx. However, as with most busy commercial streets in New York City, finding street parking can often be challenging. While limited metered parking or side-street parking might be available, it usually requires patience, especially during peak hours. Despite potential parking difficulties, the robust public transportation links significantly mitigate this issue, ensuring that MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II remains a highly accessible destination for a broad customer base.
The neighborhood surrounding this part of Jerome Avenue is a vibrant, diverse community. Being integrated into such an active area means the bakery benefits from significant foot traffic and local patronage, making it a familiar stop for daily routines or for those seeking celebratory items. Its location helps it serve as a convenient point for the local community's bakery and coffee needs.

## Services Offered
MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II, operating under new management, offers a range of baked goods and coffee services. Based on customer reviews, the primary focus appears to be on cakes and general bakery items, complemented by coffee shop offerings. However, a recent review highlights significant issues with custom cake orders.
Birthday Cakes and Custom Cakes: The bakery offers birthday cakes and aims to provide custom cake designs, accepting reference photos for specific details like gold flakes, macaroons, and drip designs. However, accuracy in executing these custom details has been noted as a significant concern under new management.
General Bakery Items: While not explicitly detailed, the name "Bakery and Coffeeshop" suggests a variety of other pastries, bread, and baked goods would be available for daily purchase.
Coffee Shop Offerings: As a "Coffeeshop," it is expected to provide various coffee beverages (hot and cold) and possibly other drinks to complement the baked goods.
Key concerns regarding services, as highlighted by a customer review, include:
Substantially Increased Pricing: The price for custom cakes has "literally doubled" compared to previous management, with a small cake for four people costing $80, leading to a perception of poor value.
Inaccurate Customization: Customers may be charged extra for specific details (like gold flakes) which are then either omitted or executed poorly (e.g., "spray painted" gold with a "foul bitter flavor" instead of flakes). Other requested elements like pearls and chocolate designs may also be missing.
Reduced Inclusions: The quantity of decorative elements (e.g., macaroons) included in custom cakes has reportedly decreased compared to previous management.

## Features / Highlights
MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II, operating under new management, presents a mixed set of features and highlights, primarily revealed through a recent customer experience with custom cakes.
Location on Jerome Avenue: Situated on a major Bronx thoroughfare, providing good visibility and high accessibility via public transportation (subway and bus lines), which is a significant convenience for New Yorkers.
Cake Quality (Base Product): Despite issues with customization and pricing, the underlying cake itself is described as "so good and moist," indicating that the basic recipe for the cake remains appealing to customers.
However, the most prominent "features" highlighted in the recent review are negative aspects resulting from the transition to new management:
Dramatic Price Increase: The "literal doubling" of prices for custom cakes (e.g., $80 for a small cake for four people) is a significant and concerning feature, leading to strong dissatisfaction regarding value for money.
Poor Customization Accuracy and Execution: This is a critical negative highlight. Customers reported a failure to include requested details (e.g., gold flakes omitted) and poor execution of attempted details (e.g., bitter "spray painted" gold instead of flakes, reduced macaroons, omitted pearls and chocolate designs).
Unpleasant Taste from Decor: The "foul bitter flavor" of the spray-painted gold on the cake is a very specific and impactful negative feature, significantly affecting the eating experience of the decorated parts of the cake.
Change in Inclusions/Value: A perceived reduction in included decorative elements without a corresponding adjustment in price (or with increased prices) suggests a diminished value proposition under the new management compared to its predecessor.
Impact of New Management "MC": The review explicitly links these changes and negative experiences to the bakery being "under new management 'MC'," indicating a clear shift in operations and customer outcomes since its time as "Steven's Bakery."

## Conclusion: Why MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II May Not Be Suitable for Locals (Based on Recent Reviews)
For New Yorkers seeking a reliable and value-driven bakery, particularly for custom cakes, MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx presents a mixed picture, with recent customer reviews indicating significant concerns that may make it less suitable for locals, especially for special occasion orders. While its prime location on a major Bronx thoroughfare offers excellent accessibility via public transport, the issues highlighted under its new "MC" management warrant careful consideration.
The most critical concern is the drastic increase in pricing for custom cakes, with a small cake reportedly doubling in price to $80 for only four people. This change directly impacts the perceived value for money, a crucial factor for budget-conscious New Yorkers. Coupled with a noticeable decline in the accuracy and quality of custom decorations – including omitted elements, reduced quantities of inclusions, and the use of poorly tasting "spray painted" gold instead of requested gold flakes – the value proposition for custom orders appears to have significantly diminished.
While the base cake itself is still described as "so good and moist," the overall experience for a custom order seems to fall short of expectations, particularly when compared to its previous iteration as "Steven's Bakery." The frustration stemming from paying a premium price for a product that doesn't meet specific design requirements, and even includes unpleasant tasting decor, can severely impact a special celebration and lead to disappointment. In a competitive market like New York City, where numerous bakeries vie for custom cake orders, delivering on promises is paramount.
Therefore, for locals prioritizing precise custom cake execution, fair pricing, and a consistent level of quality in all aspects of a custom order, MC Bakery and Coffeeshop II may not currently be the most suitable choice. While it might still serve as a convenient spot for general bakery items and coffee, patrons looking for celebratory cakes, especially those with specific design needs, are advised to exercise caution and perhaps explore other well-established alternatives in the Bronx that consistently deliver on both value and detailed customization.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I miss this place when they were “Steven’s Bakery”. I ordered a small birthday cake, (photo: this is the smallest size you can get btw, & candles were not included) with gold flakes, macaroons and drip detail. I used a photo of another cake that this shop has made as a reference. Now I get a different color drip design cake here every year because its just so good and moist. However this year, they are under new management “MC” and my yearly cake order came out to $80. WOW! The price has literally doubled since last yr. And again this is the smallest size (party of 4 ppl) and there were no gold flakes (which I was charged extra for) and the gold color was spray painted on the cake which is not what I asked for. Also the spray paint had a foul bitter flavor that did not taste good, had to eat around the gold parts. Also, last year there were about 5 macaroons instead of 3 as well as pearls and chocolate design (no charge)… Don’t get me wrong, we dogged the cake! LOL but for $80, not worth it!My advise to this bakery- Please do not spray paint your cakes, it doesn’t taste good and $80 for a 4 person cake? Get real!
