Michele Baking Co Introduce
Introduction / Overview: Authentic Italian Baking and the Best Subs in Illinois
For residents across Illinois who appreciate the simplicity and quality of authentic Italian baking, Michele Baking Co in Franklin Park offers a rare and delightful experience. This is a business with a dual personality: it operates as a massive, 22,000-square-foot Bakery and wholesale supplier for over 250 cafes, restaurants, and schools across Chicagoland, yet it maintains a small, charming retail shop in the front of the bakery. This front shop is where Illinois consumers can access their freshly baked goods directly, often alongside products from its partner bakery, Casa Nostra.
While the wholesale side focuses on providing superior products like sandwich, French, torpedo, and Vienna breads to businesses, the retail component has become famous for two key items: its incredible Italian subs and panzerotti. Customers rave about the subs, often calling them the "best I have found," noting the "quality meat," "fresh bread, fresh ingredients," and a perfect, simple approach that avoids unnecessary additions like lettuce and tomatoes. The entire experience is characterized by genuine, old-world hospitality, with staff being described as "very friendly and welcoming," often making gestures like throwing in "a couple of loaves of bread for free." This blend of industrial capacity and small-shop charm makes Michele Baking Co a unique and highly recommended stop for a quick visit and Takeout or In-store pickup for anyone in the Illinois area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Stopped in here and didn't know what to expect. Elderly Italian lady greeted me, so nice and friendly! Got a 6-in Italian sub and a panzerotti. The sub was larger than 6 in, quality meat, a nice tasting dressing and not all the other stuff they throw on at other places, like lettuce and tomatoes and whatever else. Simple and perfect.I say this with pretty good knowledge of all the popular Italian sub places in the area. I have lived in the neighborhood all my life.Since it was my first time here she also threw in a couple of loaves of bread for free, a very nice gesture. I will be back.
April 18 · Mark DDo not miss a chance to get a sub from this wonderful shop attached to the bakery here. The ladies inside were very friendly and welcoming and the sandwich was a 10 out of 10. Fresh bread, fresh ingredients, I even watched her snip a few basil leaves off their basil plant in the front window for my sub. Just a really fantastic little shop. Be aware it is cash only but please don't let that stop you.
April 03 · Kevin WeberAwsome place to go and get freshly baked bread for sandwiches and some sweet treats, including cookies. They also sell some delicious sandwiches, at reasonable prices. If you want to get the best selection of all the breads they have to offer, you must go there early. The place is run by a couple of very friendly ladies, that are always eagerly awaiting to assist you with the selection of your bread pieces. The outlet store is very small and it's hard to see the entrance at first glance. The main entrance to the store is located on Belmont Ave. side, at the Southwest corner of Belmont and Manheim.
June 14 · Jerry CamachoStopped for subs after people saying they were amazing. Will not get another one. The cheese was sliced so thin you could see through it. The meat was also cut thin which is why the sandwich was not good. No real taste for lack of ingredients. However the bread was excellent.
March 31 · Barb MarrazzoWow to the bread. You can order a small selection of sandwiches and soup from the counter. Great that they have mortadella. Simple sandwiches but the fresh bread is fantastic. There are a few bistro tables and very basic setup. Friendly staff but move at a slow pace, so be patient. The place is usually empty at lunch. Cash only.
